  1. The link you posted shows the fuse panel with a "bilge pump" sticker on it. I was just being silly.
  2. My bike does have cruise control.
  3. Skip was really rolling yesterday. I heard the usual Atlanta, GA big gun on channel 6. I called him using my CB call sign of "33 and 1/3" and said I was motorcycle mobile. He responded and we exchanged signal reports. Not bad for a mobile Venture to Atlanta from Central MA!!
  4. I'll know the compression numbers for my 1989 very soon but I'll never "store" this bike or any of my vehicles ever! I'll go out every week at least and fire them up for some time and ride them if the weather permits. Storage, phooey lol
  5. Good advice, thanks. I think we worked it out.
  6. While I was shopping for a Venture I went and tried to buy this one. Very, very clean and has service records from dealership for it's entire one owner life. This guy is "mature, 78" and had triple bypass last year. I could not get him lower than $2,600 for the 1983 so I passed. Also the 83-85 second gear issue scared me a little. Take a look https://newlondon.craigslist.org/mcy/d/1983-yamaha-venture-royale/6640944197.html Cheers
  7. Thanks Steven, that is exactly what I plan to do. The priority has decreased since it looks respectable now lol
  8. I wasn't sure just how much clear/paint it had on it so I elected to initially do the areas that needed. I'll wet sand the entire thing and apply a second coat. I have done my fair share of re-blueing guns and refinishing the stocks, but paint on plastic and metal is new to me. I can't believe the results. I got good advice and lucky!! BTW with 600 grit sandpaper, you'll be sanding a good long time till you reach the black base material. I rode it home with the initial coat tonight. Cheers Off topic but I love older things in mint condition. Here is my mint condition 1997 Saab 900SE Talladega edition!!
  9. Thanks Flyinfool. I took your advice but I only had 600 grit on hand and some epoxy clear at work. I'm just waiting for the first coat to dry, and the rain to stop, before calling it a day.
  10. I guess I over reacted when I read the word "kid", sorry. That is the problem with craigslist purchases; can't tell what is BS and what is not. Anyway, a co-worker, Harley rider, is loaning me a compression gauge so I can test them. If that is good, I'll check for exhaust leaks then sync the carbs. I think all will be just fine because this bikes runs very smooth, has zero smoke, no stumble, no let off popping, gets around 38 Mpg depending on the wrist etc.... I'm very happy with it.
  11. It's funny you mention the water test, cause I licked my finder and rubbed them and most of them did disappear. I figured the white was the primer. Will
  12. Fired up my trusty 89 Royal this morning to go to work and noticed my left side hard bag cover was missing. Yesterday I carried home the old battery I replaced yesterday in the compartment and it must have caused the un-locked cover to go flying. Luckily I found it only three miles from home rite on the side of the road. Lesson learned; lock those locking levers from now on!! Now what to do to get those horrible scuffs and scratches out? Will
  13. Don't waste your time on me Steven, I'm sure I'm too young and have holes in my memory that would prevent me from understanding your explanation. Will
  14. Wow. Elderly meant to me that someone felt they were too old to safely handle the bike, simple as that. I didn't get a birth certificate or a copy of the medical records for the first owner. Will BTW I'm a vet of foreign wars, got two grown kids, been all over the world etc.... Don't call me kid Gramps!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I rode my usual 110 mi round trip today and purposely selected a gear that kept me at least at 3K RPM. You guys are correct, she does like 3 or even 3.5 then she is off. If I am doing 2.5K she will still accelerate without stumble, she is just lazy till you get her up to over 3K. I was in 2nd gear today on a straight doing 4.5K RPM and completely opened the throttle. Wow this heavy, beautiful 1st gen will get up and scoot!!
  16. I'm scared as to the results of a compression test lol The bike runs mint and I paid $1,200, I'm running it and hoping for the best!! For now. Will
  17. Nice ride!! BTW, make any DX contacts up there? Will KD4FOV
  18. I'm sure this has been done before and covered, but here is my rendition. Used single sided sticky foam around 1/8" thick. The Factory seal was almost completely gone. Now, when I tighten the four air box screws down there is actually some compression resistance. I also replaced the battery that was swimming in the holder; obviously not the best size for a 130CC. It was manufactured in 2014. Replaced it with a Deka ETX18L, a perfect fit, AGM, and 350CCA. Will
  19. It is pretty difficult to see this "T" in the pics but I did trace two of the connections. The blue arrow points to the hose that was not connected. It goes straight up to some unknown place. The bottom of the T goes down about an inch and can be seen easily just behind the carb sync plug. On the other side of the T there is a much smaller hose that goes towards the left of the bike and up to the air box I think. Also I notice that someone has elected not to install the carb drain hoses. I'll add them eventually. The owner had the carbs serviced three years ago after leaving gas in the system ridden for two years. I hope the service guy did a better job internally to the carbs than he did re-attaching hoses. Cheers and thanks for any identification. Will
  20. I'm loving this 1989 Venture Royal with every option. The idle had an issue that I fixed by re connecting a loose vacuum hose but other than that, she is mint with just over 28,500 miles. When Our twin boys were born I had a VT1100C Honda Shadow that she did not like to ride two-up on. This bike she loves and she make a great back rest lol.
  21. Sure, I'll Take a couple at lunch tmr. I'm not sure what it is but it definitely prevented the blips from hanging before returning to idle no question. Will
