  1. I tought I knew about carbs until I started to work on these venture carbs ;-)
  2. My 1985 Venture Canadian model Jya59h009fa000152 1988 venture canadian model jya1umn08ja005141 the 1983 resting in Cancun Mexico I lost the papers to it it
  3. The the floats go out of spec because the of the wear on the float needle and seat?
  4. Thanks a lot guyz. I think I am reaching the point where it's worth it to pull the carbs because I am wasting too much time trying to fix it without a proper cleaning.
  5. I think you have it mixed up with the diaphragm from the main slide/needle.
  6. What is the purpose of the little diaphragm on the side of the carb body? What is its correct name (Yamaha parts fiche calls it a diaphragm set) Also if it fails or if the holes leading to it are plugged, what will be the symptoms? Has this part been known to fail on ventures.
  7. Allright I measured my old oring by test wrapping them around round things I had laying around. I believe them to be 46mm ID 50mm OD and 2mm cross section. I ordered a 50 pack for 5.65$ shipped - The price of one at the dealer. https://www.ebay.com/itm/153049366495
  8. Hello guys, I just called the dealer and they want I think is a lot of money for the orings that go between the intake boots and the heads. I can buy a box with 200 orings for the price they want for just one of these puppies. I was wondering if any of you guys knew the size of these orings or a cheaper source for these than the dealer.
  9. Quite simply the bike has been sitting for over 4 years and I just bought it for 250$ The fuel pump does work. Also gravity may have a play here because I am using a funnel set up higher than the carbs to feed the line with fresh fuel. I pulled the line at the petcock and I am running a long fuel line to a funnel tied to the topcase. It only runs on choke and wont idle without it or barely. I was trying to unclog the pilot circuits w/o pulling the carbs but at this point I think I have to remove the carbs if there is a risk that I have a stuck float.
  10. My bikes are both Canadian models. My 88 has the second shock with the exposed spring. The compressor does not seem to work on this bike and the rear of the bike is really low. I cannot event put it on the sidestand. It wants to fall over to the right. On the 1985 it seems to be the 1st type of shock that I have (without the exposed spring) I also happen to have a spare non-class rear shock as my 1985 came with two boxes of goodies, remnents of when a previous owner swapped a 1300 motor into it from a wrecked bike. So with a non working CLASS, I can swap the spare shock onto my 1988 and have a stiffer rear shock. Correct?
  11. What is the spring rate on the stock shock for 1st gen bikes? also there is more than 2 models of rear shocks? I noticed my 1985 has a shock that has the spring enclosed and the 1988 has an exposed spring on the rear shock.
  12. Hello guys, I ran my 1988 venture on choke for a good 20 minutes as I am trying diagnose a carb issue. Anyway I shut the bike off(with the choke pulled)walked away for a good 5-10 minutes and when I can back the bike would not turn over, hydrolocked in fuel. Now I know I should not leave the choke/enrichner pulled on a resting motorcycle but is this normal for the bike to fill with fuel this quickly? Doesnt the enrichner need a vaccum to draw fuel? What do you guyz think?
  13. Are we supposed to glue the diaphragms on or glue the metal sleeve to the plastic piston? I installed new diaphragms and the metal sleeves seem to snap right into the plastic piston and hold fine but I am wondering if I was not supposed tu use glue or sealant to permanently hold it together. BTW I ordered the diaphragms from china at 5$ each on fleabay. I have yet to ride the bike but am happy with the fit.
  14. Hello venturers Sorry for yet another carb thread/question. Say you suspect you have a clogged pilot jet on one carb and that makes one of your cylinders unhappy at idle. Say you also happen to be a lazy person and you would like to avoid pulling and dissasembling the carbs. Could you remove the air/fuel mixture screw on that one carb and then inject cleaner into the circuit with a straw or syringe. Then you would let it sit for a few days to let your cleaner work its magic. Afterwards you would blow a little bit of compressed air into the circuit by way of the exposed hole from the missing a/f mixture screw to hopefully dislodge the crud in the actual pilot jet. Finaly you would flush out the carb bowl. All of this while the carbs are on the bike. What do you guyz think of this idea? I plan to try it on my 1988 venture and flush the bowls also.
  15. The carbs on these bikes are so different than anything I have ever worked on. I feel like they should have their own sub-forum. Another thing I do not understand is why they have 3 jets. You have the external jet that sits atop the jet block, you have a teeny tiny pilot jet Inside the block and finally you have the main jet, also Inside the block. What is the reason for the 3rd jet a top the jet block. To restrict maximum flow to the main jet at WOT? weird
  16. So there is no OEM part number for this? I have to say I would rather overpay say 4$ for a clip from Yamaha than spend time hunting down a generic clip or buy a box of clips.
  17. Ok so you dont drain these carbs from the bowls like 99% of motorcycles? What do you mean by Right Hand Side? The diaphragm cover side or on the bowl side?
  18. I lost the tiny clip that holds the rod going to the enrhichener mechanism on the right hand side fo the carbs for my bike. I cannot seem to find the part number for this clip on Yamaha diagrams. Anyone know the part number so I can order a new one?
  19. I want to drain them to clean the bowls out with carb cleaner. Not wanting to pull the carbs atm
