  1. Well the venture has a lot of problems right now. Maybe I can fix some. The pump seal has not leaked in 3 days. Happy about that. Earlier today I lost the odometer and trip meter. The speedometer still works. The worst problem is carburation. Bike ran perfect in Canada, ran rich in the south, got a little worse in tamaulipas but now that I am at high elevation, it barely runs. I idles like a harley and it breaks up badly. Obviously no gonna rejet the whole bike one week before I part with it but I wonder if there aren't enrichening screws I can play with?? Also do the needles have multiple notches? If I could lower them it would help out some. Btw:I am sending some photos over pronto
  2. I am Near San Miguel guyz. Will send pics when I get reliable wifi.
  3. Gonna try to get that seal tomorrow form the dealer. I hope they have it in stock. Also need a new rear tire. After riding Texas Hill country for two days at wot I olbierated the thread on my rear tire. The venture makes a better carver than I expected once I got used to it. After i find my seal and tire, time to enter Mexico.
  4. Water leak again ... hey guyz, did some spirited riding around Texas Hill Country and this moring the bike had a puddle of coolant underneath it. It is coming from the weep hole for the pump. I lt quit leaking when I started to ride it. there does not seem to be any water in the oil. what seal do I need to replace?!?
  5. Hocu potus is a clue for you to guess where I am. but tomorrow the bike is going against a 2014 bmw 1200gs so I have faith in the bike. Clutch springs still need to be put on. What is s the tci? Computer?
  6. My mind is blown: In Texas, you can bring your own bottle of liquor to the bar!!! Crazy!
  7. Hello Venture and Dixie. I rolled thru your area las night. Sorry we couldnt meet up. I am in Louisiana now and the weather is quite nasty. Flood warnings for the area. Want to ride the coast on 82 but dunno if I can make it happen. Time for long lunch break.
  8. Doing well guyz. Just took a photo of the first palm trees of the trip.
  9. Advrider is addictive. Be careful, next thing you will know, your life will become a maze of trips, trip planning, trip financing and work in between to make it all work. Your friends will think you have gone crazy, your family will renounce, your finances will go to hell. You have been warned What time do you eat lunch or get off work?
  10. I rode it in 2014 (albeit quickly) Photos from that day: http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/alaska-2014-hotel-budget-zero.995038/#post-24698029 For WY/MT I really like Beartooth Pass 212 and I hear "Going to the Sun Road" in GNP is very nice but it opens late every summer.
  11. Ha ha thanks Venture and Dixie. Yeah I am not going to Copper Canyon this time. More laid back type riding. I am going to criss cross thru the mountains on the east and then Ill see. Theres an active volcano I wanna chexk out too and the National park in Chiapas. Little or no dirt roads this time
  12. Well it is def the angle pipe seal that is leaking. I can see it clearly today. A weird thing this bike does is when I turn on the blinkers sometimes I lose the rpm and volt meter gauge for a split second. It only does it if I have not used the blinkers in a while. The needles drop but come right back up and the icons in the center of the dash all light up for a split second. weird
  13. I have used and I carry JBweld with me at all times. Cant leave home without it. saved my but here http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/spending-christmas-in-death-valley-and-the-new-year-in-urique-mexico.1040296/page-6#post-26650439
  14. Thanks ! Pretty sure I need to replace seals #22 but I guess since I am ditching the bike, I can patch it from the outside for a temp fix l like you said. No need to drain the whole system this way.
  15. Thanks cowpuc is there an oring in there? hard to replace? It does leak when I ride, only did what the buke was cold.
  16. Well crap I have the same problem as phonetrouble(the slipping) It only does it if I downshift to pass a car and I gun it at high rpm. In normal driving there is no slippage at all. So the 30 year old springs are likely suspects?
  17. Guyz, I cant uplaod the photos.. If someone wants to host them for me I can send you couple via email every once in a while and you can post them up for me. Otherwise I dont think I can uplaod photos until i come back from the trip. 1c right now in CT drinking coffee them I am hitting the road again till I cant anymore. cheers!
  18. Hello guyz, I left home ar 10am, made it to the border crossing near Jackman Maine around 11am The Border agents all came out of the office and some were taking pictures of me. It was -16c iirc in Jackman. My hands were freezing so I took a 30min break to eat and warm up. There were snowmobiles everwhere around the jackman area and they were all giving me the thumbs up. It was funny seeing snowmobiles riding the trails off the 201. I could not wave at them because I was trying to keep warm so I just honked at them. For about an hour it was snowing, a ver light and fairytale snow that was coming down slowly. It was very pretty to ride in it but scary at the same time. I was really scared that it was going to start snowing heavily. Lucky for me there was only snow on the ground in a few spots. Roads were sometimes wet and thawing, other spots I could not decipher between dryed road salt and frost. A little bit nerve racking. Once I was in portland ir was above freezing, still cold to ride on I95 but the road surface is safe.
  19. So we are 10 hours from departure time IMG_0375.PNG by Jean Turcotte, on Flickr
  20. Yeah but is it normal for it to click-click-click-click-click-click-click-click for 5-10 seconds? Shouldnt it just click once and start pumping?
  21. I have a brand new battery on this bike. Whenever I turn the ignition on on this bike and it has been sitting. There is a selenoid clicking that seems to be coming from under the seat. The flickering/clicking noise lasts for about 10 seconds. Bike fires right up afetr this. Antthing I should concered with?
