Chaplain Dusty made it safely thru Detroit and is ON HIS WAY!!
Chaplain Dusty replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Now I have to tell you what the photos are. The first was taken in the Pucmeister's garage and that is his wife Tippy and his-self sitting on my scoot. The second photo is of my oldest son in his backyard in Swissvale, Pa next to the scoot. And there I am with my first grandchild 'Frances'. This was the first time I was able to see her in person. She just turned a year old on May 28th. And that is her pushing her own scoot at the botanical garden next to the Univ. of Pittsburg. The fifth photo is of my son 'Dustin', my granddaughter and my son's wife 'Kate'. Then the new bike against Lake Michigan over on Puc's side of Michigan, the bike at a rest area in Oklahoma (it did not need rest, but I did), and finally a welcome sign to New Mexico, The Land of Enchantment or entrapment, you take your pick. It was a welcome sign that I was close to home. Praise God for a very quick, but safe trip. It was truly an ad-Venture!!! Chaplain Dusty -

I've got the photos ready to go in my file management area, but cannot seem to get them from that area to the reply in the thread? Like I said, I am not a computer guru. Anybody out there have an answer? "WELL LOOKY THERE!!! THEY JUST APPEARED OUT OF THIN AIR! Go figure. Answered prayer I believe!" Chaplain Dusty Think I'll go for a ride. -

Hey Puc, I need that map filled in with Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas added to my New Mexico, or tell me how to do it. I'm the old guy remember. These computer situations are not in my skills book. Chaplain Dusty ps. Hello to Tip and thanks for everything. May our Lord richly bless you. -

Hey my venture rider brothers. Made it back home to Santa Fe, New Mexico today around 2 pm my time. While in Seligman, Missouri at my step-moms house, I borrowed tools and reattached the speedo cable. Took her for a ride and the cruise control worked also. I figured that they were linked. :clap2:About 50 miles east of Oklahoma City on I-40 I ran into hot high winds which really chewed on my gas mileage. The winds stayed with me until I hit the Texas line. Bedded down in Amarillo, Texas. What ever you do, DO NOT stay at the Knights Inn next to the Pilot truck-stop on the east side of Amarillo. :no-no-no::no-no-no: You may live to regret it. It was Soooooo nice to chow down on a shredded chicken burrito with red and green chile when I got back into New Mexico. :cool10:We call that Christmas around these parts. God was gracious throughout the entire trip. Sure, there were weather, traffic, etc. issues, but all in all, one very quick but nice trip. The bike ran real well after my brother Puc synced the carburetors. It only took him about 15-20 minutes if that. It would have taken me half a day. Thumbs up :thumbsup2: to my brothers talents. Oh, THE DEALER. Had to pay shipping even though I picked up the bike. The salesman Andrew said it was for delivery to their shop. I told him it was only 20 miles. After awhile, he told me that I knew more about the bike than he did. Thanks to the venture riders for all of the info. At any rate, had to pay $300.05 on freight. He stated that was just their standard procedure and that he could not deviate from their policy. So, a heads up to anyone doing business with Approval Power Sports in Sandusky, Michigan. :doh:To the brother that said to watch them on the fast one, you were right. On another note, they were kind enough to pick me up at the airport in Detroit and deliver me to Sandusky. I actually was willing to pay for that service, but after the freight charge, my mind had changed. Chaplain Dusty -

Hey my brothers. It's been a trip!! Just below Brighton I came into rain which continued all the way through Toledo, Ohio in rush hour traffic. Got as far as Norwalk, Ohio where I bedded down at the Norwalk Inn. Not bad for the money. I was pretty tired. Drove to Pittsburgh, Pa. and visited my son, his wife and my first grandchild, which just turned one year old in May and I had not seen her yet. Before I left, it began raining again. Had to leave in the rain. It took me about an hour to get out of Pittsburg (closed tunnel, 4 double lanes of traffic into two for a detour. It was stop and go a few feet at a time. Real misery on a bike. Drove to Columbus, Ohio and got a motel for the night. It stopped raining when I hit I-70 West. About 50 miles east of Columbus, the speedometer and cruise control stopped working. Evidently the work done on the bike to replace the front fork seals affected the speedometer cable (not tightened properly). No tools, so I taped it up so that it would not get damaged. Been running with the tach to determine speed. Got to Seligman, Mo. where my step-mom lives, which is where I am now. Getting ready (with tools) to install the speedometer cable. Will let you know. Leaving today some time. Will keep you posted. Just to let you know my brother Puc is quite the guy!!! Really enjoyed my visit with after driving across Michigan from Sandusky to N. Muskegon. I appreciated meeting his wife and being able to break bread with them and praying for them. THANK YOU PUC for being you. Also, thanks to Stan and all the others for the detective work on checking out the dealer and the bike before this trip. I will give an update on the dealer at another time. Venture Riders do it again! Chaplain Dusty -

Yes Puc, I remember the sky hooks! As a sheet metal worker the metal stretcher was a good one. When I was a third year apprentice I saw the men from a square pipe shop send a newbie across the street to the round pipe shop for the metal stretchers. They sent him back lugging an anvil, but the men told him to go back and get the larger one. On his return trip he got caught by the boss and when he told the boss what he was doing everybody got chewed out big time! Sending them after the round square was also a good one. The most dangerous I saw was on the Flint Creek Power plant in NW Arkansas. They would con a new person into the three man lift. I was working on a composite crew with the boilermakers, but we watched the iron workers on this one. They had two big guys lay on the ground on each side of the person they told that one of the other guys could lift all three guys. In actuality the outer two guys were just there to intertwine their arms and legs with the middle guy to hold him down, while the guy who was to do the lifting greased him up good. It was dangerous because when they let the guy up and took out running, he almost hit one of them in the head with his connector spud wrench. Enough said! Chaplain Dusty Just saying! -
I haven't seen many bikes with 120,000 on them to be in the shape as this one is. I would say that the seat is not the original, at least I would not go for the velveteen material. The 20,0758 miles are accurate. I will be in Michigan to pick it up on Thursday and I will shed more light on the subject. Chaplain Dusty

I would love to come to a rally. I haven't made a long trip with my wife who is older than I am, so I've been doing short trips with her to break her in (so to speak). She had never been on a bike until I bought my 83'. Both our schedules are very full at present, but you never know. I've been considering the one that might happen in Gulf Port, I believe it is. I was a freelance manual lawn mower (a push mower) in the trailer park I lived in and collected pop bottles for extra cash. But, the first paying job was when I was picking onions, picking cotton, picking green chile's and working in a feed yard. With the feed yard job I worked all one summer and saved every dime to buy my first car (a 1964 Dodge Dart with a slant six engine). Mopped floors in a laundromat and became a lifeguard at the White Sands Missile Range Base. I started college to become a sociologist in order to go into criminology, but decided to get a trade behind me. So, I joined the laborer's union at $4.26 per hour, but later was able to get into the sheet metal workers apprenticeship at $3.56 per hour. With my first raise after 6 months, I was making more than I had in the laborer's union. I spent four years in school while working the trade and ended up after 37 years retiring from the trade. And now, busier than ever. My retirement job is working as a lifeguard, aquatics instructor and CPR instructor at the local Community College. I volunteer as a chaplain in the state prison and give Bible studies in a nursing retirement home, a home study group along with working as a youth minister at my church. What an adventure. In all my years of driving throughout this great country, I have only run into a handful of bad apples. This span of time covers 48 years and a dozen states. My prayer is that the majority of LEO do not bend to this very well planned attempt to further erode the foundations of our country. Not only will there be pressure from below on our streets, but also from the politics above. I wish to thank all LEO's all around our country for standing firm in the face of the outright attacks coming against them. My prayers are with you and my heartfelt thanks! Yes, the bad apples need to be removed and not allowed a gun or a badge. And remember to stand with integrity and above all, keep the faith! Chaplain Dusty

Blue Sky, I don't try to be optimistic or pessimistic. I try to be realistic about it. I do not think the optimist asks enough questions and the pessimist is throttled before he can even start. However, I do believe with the given mileage of the bike and the condition of the bike that has been verified by my venture rider brothers, that it will be a successful ride. It will be a long one and weather is a consideration. I do plan on taking my time. It has been a while since I've done a long road trip on a bike. But, I am anxious and even excited to see states that I've never seen before. So far, everything has fallen into place very nicely. I definitely will keep you posted on this thread. Chaplain Dusty

I'm getting anxious. I fly to Michigan a week from tomorrow to pick up the '88. Puc, I'm headin' at you and then skating to Pittsburgh to see my only grandchild. She just turned 1 years old on May 28. Goin' to try to hook up with Stan. We will see. From Pittsburgh, headin' back to New Mexico. Chaplain Dusty:biker::biker::biker:

Puc, Also, I will call the dealer in Sandusky Monday and give the necessary sounds to them for Stan to hear that '88 run. I will let you know the outcome. I understand their position since I have a down placed on the bike. I am also forwarding the insurance info to them which should relax them somewhat. Chaplain Dusty

Puc, You will have to go over how to fill those states in on my online map. I'm no computer wizard. Still learning after all these years. At least I'm able to learn, so I have not completely fallen and can't get up. Remember piper doon! That's when the piper collapses and can't get back up. Poor lass! :rotf:However, I will bring my rain gear! The major thing is that the Lord is in control. We have to remember this or we will . Bless you my brother. Chaplain Dusty

Have you ever had thoughts of hanging it up on riding?
Chaplain Dusty replied to Eck's topic in Watering Hole
I sold my 750 Yamaha in 1989. I was in Phoenix, Az. Just too many close calls. Thought it was time. But now, 26 years later, I purchased an '83 because the desire to ride came back. I'm preparing to fly to Michigan to drive back an '88 to New Mexico. It will be my longest trip yet. Looking forward to it. So, you just never know Eck. Do what brings peace to your soul. Live in the moment and the future will take care of itself. Chaplain Dusty -
Puc, I want to thank everyone for their time and consideration on checking out the '88. It looks like a go. I put insurance on the bike yesterday in preparation for pick-up. I fly in on Sept 10th to pick her up and head on over to see you. It will be my first time in Michigan. I am looking forward to it. Everyone that I've met in my neck of the woods that were from Michigan were good people. Looking at the trip, I will be going through four states that I've never seen in order to return to New Mexico. This will be the longest trip I've ever made on a bike. How is the weather looking up there? I know that it can change quickly. Keep me posted. Thanks my brother! Chaplain Dusty

Right on Yammer Dan!!! That's a true head banger. Guess I better pull my plugs also. It just seems like a good thing to do, especially after reading all of this. And I was just trying to get my fork seals done along with the new progressive springs. Chaplain Dusty

Gracious Heavenly Father, You are in control of all things. I praise you for who You are in Your majestic glory above all things. Lord God, You have given us access to Your very throne room by the sacrifice of Your only Son. Father, I bow before You in reverence to Your holiness, but I also stand boldly before You, because Your Spirit is within me. Lord, You say in Your Word for those who believe to pray for one another and to ask without wavering according to Your will and it will be done. In obedience to Your Word I lift up my brother Scott to You. Father I pray that You would do a mighty work in His life for Your glory. Touch Him Lord, not only physically, but mentally and spiritually. Just say the Word and it will be done. Strengthen him Lord, encourage him Lord and constantly remind him of Your presence in his life. Glorify Yourself in this Father. I pray for your tender mercy upon my brother Scott and I pray that You would use his life as a testimony of Your goodness. Righteous Father, I pray this according to Your will and in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ. Amen! Puc; Gambate Kudasai (Japaness for Keep Your Chin Up). Your brother in Christ, Chaplain Dusty:bagpipes-emoticon:
