  1. I went to the local Honda/Suzuki motorcycle dealer today just to see what they had. I've been thinking about maybe getting a newer fuel injected bike to replace both of my old bikes. There wasn't anything there that appealed to me. They had the new adventure bikes like the 650 and 1000 V strom. No appeal to me. They had a new red Goldwing in the showroom that looked nice. I know they are the ultimate in touring bikes and are great machines but it looked like a boat on two wheels to me. They had cruisers. Just don't do anything for me. My 89 Venture's looks appeal to me more than the wing. And it still looks like a new bike with only 6k miles on it. That V4 sounds much better too. It stirs my soul! I bought the Venture because my wife complained about the small hard seat on the ZN700. But, she doesn't want to ride with me and the Venture is a big bike for one person. Discussions on the forum have got me to thinking about a Honda ST1300 or BMW R1150RT. Fun to look anyway.
  2. Puc, congratulations on selling the three bikes!! Fantastic!
  3. I think that is the same one you can buy from Yamahapubs depending on the year of the bike
  4. You'll look good with your Harley vest while riding your Vic:stickpoke:
  5. You just never know what you like until you ride it. Usually the magazine test riders (and maybe everyone else) have a different agenda than you.
  6. Coudn't it be plugged idle circuits? I would remove the idle screws carefully because each one has a tiny o-ring and tiny washer and tiny spring on the end. Spray carb cleaner into the holes and clean them out. I think that is part of the shotgunning. Try the shotgunning.
  7. A valve adjustment might fix the compression problem. But, I agree with trying seafoam first. A newer bike with fuel injection may be the best bet for you. Unless you develop an interest in working on the bike yourself. As neglected as the bike has been you could spend a lot of time getting it up to snuff.
  8. Yep, it's that time of the year!
  9. Yeah, but you would look good on that ST!
  10. So what model bike is that you want to buy?
  11. http://yamahapubs.com/ This will get you a printed copy. It's not quite as good as the one that comes with the new bike or at lease for my 89. I bought a 87 GEN I owner's manual off the web as well and it has a complete foldout wiring diagram included.

  13. Do you need to pull the drive shaft and grease the front splines too?
  14. I thought you were going to say you went to look at that ST1300:)
  15. Seems to be a lot of that going on these days:crying:
  16. partzilla for OE parts
  17. I bid on a bike on ebay a few years ago. I was high bidder but did not reach the reserve. But, the seller had posted his phone number on the ebay ad somewhere. So, I called and offered what I had entered as the highest bid I would have allowed the auto bid system to go to and after a day or so, the seller took it. I was only a couple hours away so I hooked up my trailer and hauled it home. It was an excellent bike!
  18. For the benefit of the newer members, would you identify all of those young men and beautiful ladies?
  19. Buying a $750 Venture with the expectation to ride it a thousand miles home is fairly optimistic I would say. There are lots of Gen Is out there if you don't mind traveling.
  20. Okay, now you got me looking at ST1300s. It would be nice to have a fuel injected engine and that famous Honda smoothness. And there is a dealer in town that also handles Suzuki. That's it other than the Harley dealer and they never did appeal to me other than I like the sound. From what I've read, there appears to be minimal problems with ST1300s. I also did some research on the BMW R1150RT and 1200RT. I think I would like the seating position better on them but they are fugly and the reliability is not as good as the Honda. Parts and dealer charges are also noticeably higher.
  21. Yeah, don't you have an 87 parts bike that has a low mileage engine. Couldn't you move that drive train to Tweeks? But, I suppose everybody deserves another bike every 250,000 miles or so.
  22. It's been posted before and there were comments about riding with one good hand that was holding a camera! I'm sure Puc can ride better with one hand than I can with both!
  23. An engine produces the same amount of waste heat whether it is air cooled or water cooled. It's all a matter of how the cooling air flow is routed. Hopefully, it is routed so that it doesn't cook the rider's legs. Water cooling is much better and more consistent in its cooling for the engine but may not help the rider at all if the air flow is allowed to flow to the rider's legs. That said, I wouldn't buy a bike that only had air cooling because of engine longevity.
  24. I likey:big-grin-emoticon:
  25. I always joked about financing a vehicle. The first 3 months is the honeymoon and then the remainder of the payments is the hangover.
