  1. OK Snaggelthooth NOW I know better I'll scamper back to where I belong. Newbie mistake.
  2. Yep that's the plan right now the guy I got it from claims the bike had been started on a regular basis. He was keeping it for his son but the son he wants a Harley like his dad. And I thought the money pit was pretty well full when I got the XJ on the road!
  3. OK I'm new to the forum and I just purchased a new to me 1989 Venture Royale with 8100 Km on the clock. This bike has been sitting for the last 10 years since the PO died. I bought the bike from his brother, he's a Harley guy. It has been started on a regular basis. I paid $400 as the bike is in need of TLC from sitting there is some minor rust, exhaust has no visible damage, rust or holes . No missing parts but a couple plastic vents and such need to be replaced. seat needs to be either recovered or replaced. I plan on doing a complete restoration. I only part I need to replace is the throttle control setup. Suggestions on how to proceed with this endeavor will be greatly appreciated. I am not new to rebuilding a bike as I have a 83 Yamaha XJ750K that I have resurrected and use as a daily driver and also a 73 Suzuki GT750K that is an ongoing work in progress. This due to the HIGH price of parts for it. So wish me luck. And I'll keep you posted on my progress.
  4. Actually I did a search and I was told by a member of the XJbikes.com forum, MidniteMax, about this site. I also belong to that form. I don't know if he goes by that here though. This a great forum and I find that this site is fantastic as is XJbikes if you own a Maxim or Secca.
  5. I know this is an old thread but I'm new here. Age 63 just bought a 89 Venture Royale. Didn't buy for me but so the wife will get on the bike with me. What do I normally ride? I ride an 83 Yamaha Maxim XJ750K. That bike goes like a bat out of hell and when you shift gears it pushes you back in the seat like an Italian sports car. You are only as old as you feel and riding the Maxim makes me feel twenty again.
  6. Thanks for the reply and the input. The bikes still listed for sale. If I can get hold of the seller I'll will be checking to make sure of the millage. It seems low to me also. But I have come across a couple with low millage last year. They where just to far for me to go look at. This ones about two hours away. I'm pretty good with the wrenches my self but never too good that I don't need to ask for help. I have an 83 GMC 3/4 ton pickup that I have done an almost complete rebuild on. Replace all the body except cab hood and box floor. I have/ride at present an 83 Yamaha XJ750K that I resurrected. And also am working on a 73 Suzuki GT750K. I like working on the bikes more than riding. I'm not working due disc, knee and shoulder problems so working on the bikes keeps me out of trouble!
  7. OK I'm looking at buying a 89 Venture Royale 1300cc bike with 8100 klms on it. The guy is asking $500. this going to be a complete rebuild if I buy it. Is there anything that I should know about this year and model that could pose a problem?
