    My 1999 RSV
  2. My 99 RSV has a little over 64,000 miles on it. Last summer, every time I got on it I heard a squeaking noise and when I was going into corners hard I noticed there was a wallow in the rear suspension. Over the winter I bought a Hagon shock. The installation was pretty simple, only took about an hour. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet with our never ending winter season, but I notice the difference just sitting on the bike. It used to have a bouncy feel when I sat on it, now it is nice and stiff. I can't wait to get it out and see how it feels in corners. Skeeter
  3. I think I may have the same problem. I had my bike up for sale but renewed the registration in case someone wants to ride it before they buy it. I went out to the shop to put the registration sticker on and noticed two little puddles of radiator fluid under the bike. One under each side. They are tiny puddles, less than a teaspoon. I pulled the ad off Craigslist until I get a chance to put it up on the lift and fix it. I can't sell a bike knowing there's an issue. I want who ever buys the bike to love it as much as I do. Its been a long extremely cold winter in Western NY which may have led to my problem. Thanks for the insight Skeeter
  4. I ended up buying the OEM lights from ebay. I mounted them yesterday. They look great. I'll send some pictures along shortly. Thanks for all the input guys. Skeeter
  5. Thanks Djh3, that's kind of what I suspected... for that price they are more than likely low quality. Maybe I'll put the OEM passing lamps on my Christmas list and see if I get them. Skeeter
  6. Thanks for all the info guys. This is great! Here is a link to the ones I saw on ebay for $250. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Driving-Light-Kit-/261658526010?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cec10413a&vxp=mtr I'm primarily looking for visibility but I would also like more light for these dark country roads in Western NY. There are a lot of beady little green eyes waiting in the darkness. I really like the look of the Yamaha OEM driving light kit and I think this is a pretty good price, but there are several listed on ebay "From China" that are in the $50 to $60 price range... just wondering if anyone has any experience with the cheap ones. 7. I want to add driving lights to my 99 Royal Star Venture. I've seen the kits on Ebay for $250. I've also seen after market kits "from China" for $60. Has anyone tried these $60 kits? Skeeter
  8. Rolltide, I realize its been over a year since you posted this so you've probably already resolved the issue.... But I'm in the process of designing an adapter for my Craftsman lift. I tried attaching a PDF of my CAD drawing, but it didn't work. Once I figure out how to do it, I'll send along the design. Skeeter
  9. I have a 99 Venture with Bubs slip-ons. The Y pipes got thin and "ripped" right where the muffler clamps on. After pricing them on Bikebandit, for $600 each, I decided to weld a tube into the Y pipe and clamp the muffler to that. I'm not sure, but I think the tube may have been an adapter that came with the Bubs (I bought the bike used with the Bubs on it). Skeeter
  10. K9Cottage, you may be right... I may have over filled the system. I put my new battery in tonight and started the bike up and let it run a minute or so and it started pushing a little antifreeze out the overflow. Thanks again for your help guys. I'm taking Millie (that's my bike's name) out for a ride tomorrow. Skeeter
  11. Thank you for the input guys. Yup...I checked it with the bike level and there was no antifreeze in the tank under the seat. I assumed it had to be at least up to the "low" line so I added about 6 to 8 oz. The bike was cold when I checked. Ride safe guys. Skeeter
  12. Hi guys, its finally warming up in Western NY so I spent some quality time with my 99 RSV today getting ready to ride. I've noticed that I have to top off the antifreeze reservoir a couple times each season. There's no sign of it getting into the oil. There's never any drips under the bike. I'm sure you guys have a suggestion of where I can look for signs of a small leak. I thought I saw a thread on here one time about this issue, but I can't find it now. Thanks for the help Skeeter
  13. Yammer Dan, I bought a 99 RSV a couple years ago. The previous owner installed a set of Bubs. The chrome was flaking off the tips, like all Bubs do, so I sanded them down and painted them with high temp flat black. They look awesome and its the cheapest fix to the problem. I'll take a picture and post it if you're interested. Skeeter
  14. This was my 13th annual trip to Americade with my riding buddies. I usually ride my Harley Softtail Heritage, but this year I decided to take my 99 RSV that I picked up last year. I've never been more comfortable. Did anyone else get to Americade this year? Skeeter
  15. I'm a big fan of the Millennium Edition color scheme, but I do have to say your bike looks pretty dam sweet in red. Nice job! Skeeter
  16. I realize this thread is a year old, but I just put my 99 up on the lift in my shop to see why my mufflers were so loose. Both collectors are rusted and broke where the mufflers slide in. The left side has a couple holes rusted through where the heat shields are attached. I could braze the rust holes by the heat shields, but my step son is a welder so he's going to see if he can fix them. They make replacement parts, but the cheapest I've found is $542 each. I don't really want to spend $1100 right now if I don't have to. Skeeter
