Anyone ever try and diagnose or repair the auto volume microphone in the 1st gen. ? Mine was working until this week. Possible that I got water in it washing the bike. Or I changed out my speakers. Pulled the radio and both side panels to install them. Also installed a noise filter on the C.B. I got used to the auto volume.

You might take a look at the white Spot next to the Volume Knob. I think there's the Mic for Volume Control under the white Mesh. If i'm cought in Rain, the Auto Volume doesn't work until i blow the Water away there

Hi Squeeze - The volume mic is dry. I checked all the pins under the radio while I was

there. Next step is to pull the control and check the little mic. It may be clogged up etc. Or the years of water and dust may have taken it out. I will look into replacing the little

critter. My guess is the control potentiometers are ok.

Mine had that white mesh... all torn and ragged... so I pulled it apart and replaced the white mesh with a THIN piece off a wet suit... I shaved most of the foam rubber from the inside and so far it's worked just great, water seems to stay out and the volume adjusts just fine. Although we don't get THAT much rain here.

Here's what you see inside...

I pulled the panel and opened it up to the same point as in mbrood's pictures. Washed the white screen and cleaned the microphone. Had a lot of dust and crud inside. Cleaned with CRC electronic cleaner. Re-assembled and voila! I have auto volume again. I will look for one of these controls and add it to my collection of radio items to reverse engineer this fall. I can't see too many items that cannot be replaced easily.

Thanks for the pictures mbrood. I knew what to expect when I pulled it apart.
