Not my scoot... my truck!.. some SOB stole it. Parked it on the street this morning near where we catch the skytrain to downtown for work (as we always do). Got back at the end of the day... hmmmmmmmm... where's the truck?.. call the wife... "where did we park?" I say... yep... that's where I thought it was too... but it ain't there! Call the cops, check with towing co... definately it's been stolen!!!

Even had a steering wheel club on it. GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! The inconvenience of this and extra costs involved might end up costing us our holiday trip to Los Osos waaaaaa Have an appointment with the insurance co Thursday... depending on what they'll give us for it...worst case scenario might have to sell the scoot just to replace the truck. One rarely comes out of these ahead of the game...especially when dealing with this govn't insurance rip-off specialists.

:crying:

That stinks. Clubs are kinda useless since they figured out how to cut the steering wheel with bolt cutters and slip it off. Next time get a decent alarm with ign cut off. Course it coulda been somebody with a tow truck and they just towed it off.

I'm sorry to hear about this, but look at it not only from the Downside.

Now, it's Time get another Vehicle and you even could consider the Facts of Fuel Costs and get something less costly ?

Although I am upset about this, I'm a firm believer of "things happen for reasons" and I always look to the positive.

As for something less costly, we sold our Aveo (a gas mizer) and bought this truck because of 2 reasons... a) no more car payments (we paid cash for the truck from the proceeds of the sale of the Aveo) and b) a truck is much more useful to us than the Aveo was. We rarely drive any distances other than with the scoot so the added fuel costs are minimal and well worth the usefulness of a truck.

I have lived in this area (Vancouver) for 7 years now. This is the second time since coming here that I've had my vehicle stolen. My last vehicle (ironically, the same kind of truck and the same color) got broken into a month after I moved here and stolen less than a year after. It was recovered with minimal damage but then got broken into again about a year after that. Both times it was broken into were attempts to steal it.

I will for sure be installing an immobilzer onto my next vehicle but I really can't stand those noisy alarms and don't believe they are much more of a deterrent than a club...if anything, they do not much more than annoy people coz the slightest thing can cause them to go off.

Sorry to hear about your truck, no fun at all.

By the way I have Dodge 2500 Deisel, I can leave it somewhere available for you to steal (with the keys in) at $4.85 per gal and rising. I would be glad to let you "steal" my truck!:no-no-no: (just kidding)

Rick, I have had alarms that were not set correctly and a cat or the wind would set them off. My current truck has a Viper in it and it was installed and setup correctly. The alarm won't go off unless something strikes the vehicle, I know cause if I throw something light into the bed (like a 2x4) then it goes off. Its also a 2 way which means the remote has a pager in it and starts beeping when it goes off. Good for a 1/2 mile I think. You would be surprised how many wanna be thief's and alarm will ward off. If a pro wants it though he'll get it no matter what you do.

Thanks for that info Buddy... I'll certainly be looking into that option. I didn't realize it was an "adjustable" thing... heck, I drive down the street on my son's Sportster and set alarms off all over the place LOL

Doesn`t the Club come with a guarantee that they will give you cash if your vehicle is stolen and your using the club ?

I don't know anything about that... I have insurance coverage...they will pay me out if it's not recovered within I think 28 days or if it's recovered and it's a write-off. The problem is, since it's an older truck (1996), I'll have to fight with them over what they will pay. They are notorious for low-balling. A few years ago my g/f at the time had her car rear ended and it was a write off (1993 Taurus). Insurance offered only $1800 but she couldn't come close to replacing it for that... we fought with them for a month and got another $800.

In the meantime, I qualify for a rental vehicle... max $40/day up to a max of $800.

THis is something my father did a few years ago to prevent car thefts. He found and old car coil (model T vintage I think)around somewhere and charged it up real good and attached a wire to the ignition switch and the hood latch somehow.

He then attached a hidden switch to turn it off and on when he wanted to use the car. When someone would touch the ignition switch without turning off the coil they got one nasty electric charge! Those old coils retained a lot of charge!!!

It seemed to fix his issue and didnt cost much at all.

I couldn't imagine that. We don't even lock our house and never have anything stolen in my life. My mother had her purse stolen once and a week later so someone felt guilty I guess and put her pictures and drivers liscence in our mail box. We didn't have credit cards back then. This is a great place to live......

I checked online they give you an amount to cover your deductable.Depending on which Club you had.:080402gudl_prv:

OK..so I checked into this and our insurance company (ICBC) which is government only gives a discount on your Comprehensive or Specified Perils coverages ONLY if you're using a "Passive Electronic Immobilizer". The amount of the discount is dependant on the type of vehicle and the area you live.

Had meeting with the adjuster today and I'm covered with a $300 deductible but no deals for having a club installed.

How many people in your town? 10? LOL

Before I go to bed each night, I check each window (even upstairs) and door lock and click the clicker for the cars. Even have the house wired for an alarm.

cops recovered my truck about 20 miles away in another city. Only "visible" damage is to the door handle and the ignition switch (according to them). Probably be a couple weeks or a bit less by the time I get it back from the repair shop tho. I haven't seen it yet so not sure if the jerks who stole it ran the crap out of it or not or just exactly what overall condition it's in. Was probably crack heads needing transportation for either themselves or some stolen property.

Glad you got your truck back, Had mine stolen 10 years ago about 4 hours before I proposed to my wife (still pulled it off). I ask the insurance company every once in a while if it was ever recovered, not yet they say. Last time I asked was a couple months ago. Prolly being used by a coyote. I miss that '85 Silverado SWB 4x4 with a month old 350 crate motor with 4 bolt main and a whole lotta other goodies too!

I think I have a thing for vehicle made in '85, lol.

yep... some vehicles are "special" and we never stop wishing we still had them. I have a "thing" for '94 - '96 Dakota's ... unfortunately they are 12th on a list of 25 most commonly stolen vehicles LOL.

SAME here, curtis!

i know i have door locks, and deadbolt locks, but i honestly can't remember anyone EVER using any of them.

i don't lock up anything, and i NEVER take my keys out of the ignition, because i'd probably lose them.

i do have a 6 foot chain link fence on three sides of my place, with a 4 foot one separating me and my neighbor.

i also have an "AMOS".

110pounds of GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG, no mean, but VERY protective of his yard.

i feel sorry for all of you guys, who live in fear of being ripped off,as a daily worry.

i guess though, if what you have don't look as good as what the thieves already have, they won't bother you!

lol:confused24::whistling::whistling:
