Final drive temps.

May be a dumb question but I just did rear wheel bearings and a final drive seal with new gear oil. 10 mile test run and the final drive is too hot to touch, is that normal? I’ve never touched it after a ride before.

HMMMM.....

I wouldn't have thought it'd be that hot.    I'll have to check mine.

I’m interested to see your results. We’re leaving Thursday on a Florida trip, don’t want problems.

Ronnie,

Sorry to see this late. Crossing fingers your Florida trip goes well

That said, I've never seen my rear end get that hot.

Did you align the rear drive using axle before tightening the 4 nuts on the pumpkin?

Is the washer by the rear brake mount in the right place?

Just throwing out guesses here? A hot bearing usually means things are too tight.

🤞

Strong storms killed the bike trip, we ended up driving the car instead. I put several miles on the bike Wednesday and the temps stayed down in the 120’s. Final drive was aligned at install, everything went together correctly, not sure what was going on. Everything sounded good, felt good, and it rode true. Head scratcher.
