Ventureless Posted November 14, 2013 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2013 Does anybody have a full black exhaust from the headers back? If so, what exhaust is it or how did you pain or coat them? I am trying to rid my bike of chrome all together.

kevin-vic-b.c. Posted November 15, 2013 Share #3 Posted November 15, 2013 I have de-chromed car wheels and I tell you it was a beach to do. Sand blast, etching primer then paint. I have know idea how it would stand up to the heat. Speak with a powder coating shop near you and see what they say. :mo money:talks
Bubber Posted November 15, 2013 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2013 I can tell you that the powder coating shop I worked at wouldn't coat any chrome without blasting first to remove all the chrome. typically they use aluminum oxide as a medium. and for free too. :rotf: Bubber
Ventureless Posted November 15, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted November 15, 2013 I have been sitting here researching some and it looks like I will have to have it all ceramic coated. Or find a black header and exhaust made for the RSV. Priced one shop and it would be roughly $400 to have them ceramic coat all of it.
winston66 Posted November 15, 2013 Share #6 Posted November 15, 2013 For my money, If I wanted a black exhaust, I would firstly sand blast to get rid of any shiney chrome, then I would let the pipes go rusty and when covered with a thin layer of rust oxide I would apply an all over coating of weak phosphoric acid (about 5%) this will cause the red rust to turn black. The finished effect wont look very nice but will be patchy black and if you were not happy with that just apply some high temp black engine enamel, which would be easy to touch up at any time in the future. Total cost would be bugger all. Cheers, Winston66, Northampton Western Australia
Bubber Posted November 15, 2013 Share #7 Posted November 15, 2013 POR 15 has a high temp paint for headers and manifolds. I think they state it is good up to 1800 F POR15.com I think or do a search on Google. Best of luck. Bubber
Seaking Posted November 16, 2013 Share #8 Posted November 16, 2013 I have a pair of black ceramic coated Rineharts that I sometimes toss on my Midnight for when I wanna make noise.. (not very odten) Have to agree, black exhaust would look good from front to back on this bike.. Taking the heat shields off and wrapping the pipes in black wrap?
