K&N Air filter cleaning

I have a K&N Airfilter on the 89. What is the best way to clean it ? Do they also use a light oil spray after cleaning like foam rubber ones ?

K&N sells a filter cleaner kit. I have had this for 5 years at least. Doesn't take much to clean the Venture filter, also have K&N in Dodge Ram.

I clean them with a DAWN dish soap solution in a deep pan. Let them soak for an hour or so, swishing them around every so often. Remove and rinse with warm tap water from the inside out. Shake and let dry then re-apply the oil.

DO NOT use compressed air to dry them, it will separate the fibers of the filter. I have done K&N filters this way for 20 years, first using them on my dune buggies with pre-filters and trucks .
