Last minute decision - visiting Gary N?

My work day tomorrow looks pretty thin - and there are no World Junior Hockey games to watch - so I'm thinking of heading to Windsor and seeing Gary N.

Anyone from SW Ontario (or anywhere else for that matter) interested in riding along?

Cheers,

Lou,Please tell Gary that Debby and I are always thinking of him. We may not be able to get the motorcycle up there as she is having a time after her surgery but we are hoping to make the Venture Rider Rally up there in our car in July and hope to see him. Also he said you have a brother (I think) in Austin..when you get down here would love to take you and show you our area of Texas. Thanks so much,Tom and Debby Hendry

Consider it done Tom.

And yes, my baby brother is in Austin and it's about time we went to visit him again (went there 4 years ago when my niece got married, but they were in San Antonio at the time).

Gary speaks highly of the visit that he and Leslie had with you and Debby and about riding the "trinity" ...

Cheers,

Hey there folks. I did get to spend a couple of hours with Gary N this afternoon at the hospital, and thought I'd give you a bit of an update on his condition.

First and foremost he says Hi to everyone, and wants you to know that he is very touched by all the support that he has received (visits, cards, calls, etc) from the members here, from their friends and family. He also wants everyone to know that he is getting better day by day.

And it really is a day by day thing for him, both physically and emotionally. He is in physical therapy twice a day to regain the strength in his legs and in his upper body. Since he's been moved to the new hospital (a couple of weeks now) he has been able to improve his mobility considerably. He still has a long way to go - he is still suffering from the after effects of a separated shoulder and still has blurriness in one eye. He is hoping to see specialists in the next couple of weeks to see what can be done about those two issues.

Emotionally, of course he is missing his Leslie terribly - his best friend and partner of 35+ years - but he knows that she is there with him and in his heart. He is very happy to be back in the Windsor area. He doesn't recall the 24 hours prior to the accident, and he is "missing a week" - his own words - from the meds that he was under. He heard today that the trial for the young lady that hit them in Ohio starts next week, so I am sure that stirred up even more memories for him. And, he's not looking forward to the first time that he has to go back into their home in Woodslee and all the memories that event will bring.

He feels stronger every day - I was concerned at how thin he was but he told me that he was at his "high school weight", having lost a considerable amount since the summer time. Gary did say that his appetite had come back to him in full force (I happened to walk in on him right in the middle of his lunch :bang head:), and he says that only about half of the weight loss was unplanned.

He is very proud of his two young boys - they have really matured throughout the ordeal and have been a tremendous help to him.

He is not sure whether he wants to be on a bike again - he says he loves the RSV (and the '06 colour especially :whistling:), but he knows that he needs to regain a lot of mental and physical strength before he can get back on the beast. His Midnight is still in the trailer and he has already told the insurance company that he doesn't want to make any sort of deal until he sees it (that too, will undoubtedly bring back some memories for him).

Gary also indicated that he was very much looking forward to getting back online and "getting caught up on his reading" on this forum.

Please keep Gary in your "positive thoughts" - Leslie is looking over him from above and helping him by giving him the strength to get through this tough time, but I'm sure she would appreciate all the help we could give him.

Thanks for the update. Glad to know he's coming along both physically and emotionally. At least he's back near home and his boys can be there more. He really should be proud of them takes a lot of maturity to deal with what they have been dealt.

I'm sure they are in everyone's prayers.

Margaret

Thanks for the update Lou. It sounds like some good news if there is such a thing in this instance. Hopefully we will get to see him but the winter is not the best time for travel. We will keep Gary and his family in our prayers for now and see what happens in the future. John and Dianne
