OddStar Posted June 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2010 After my 'deer hunting' incident, where the deer's head had wrapped around my forks and put a baseball size dent (about 2" deep) in the right side of the tank, I talked to a couple of body shops and 'paintless' dent repair places. None seemed to want to do the job, so frustrated went on-line and found a couple of ideas. The first item http://www.ehow.com/how_6462615_use-dent-motorcycle-gas-tank.html was using heat and liquid CO2 to pop the dent. Went to Staples and got a 4-pak of dust-off and borrowed the old-lady's hair dryer. After about 3 cans of air the dent had come out at least half way. Then I attacked it with my Dent King kit which I already had. http://www.ehow.com/how_2098332_repair-dent-motorcycle-tank.html Working from the 12 O'clock position and going around a few times (12, 3, 6, etc.) the rest of the dent came out . Saved big $$$'s and got the satisfaction of doing myself .
BoomerCPO Posted June 11, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 11, 2010 That's a neat fix !!! If I tried doing that the tank would have additional dents and I'd end up using a milk jug for a gas tank. Boomer....who thinks mebbe a half-dozen pygmies inserted into the tank with ball peen hammers could be used for profit gain.

wes0778 Posted June 11, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 11, 2010 Wonder if pressurizing the tank during this would speed up the process?
SilvrT Posted June 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 11, 2010 Good job... wish they had those "Ding Kings" when I had my body shop (back early 80's). I did have a large suction attachment for my "dent puller" and it did work to some degree but ya had to yank on it or use the weighted slider/hammer which was a bit of a PITA.
