THINKING OUT LOUD.

We're thinking about putting together a ride from Tucson down to Mazatlan Ferry over to La Paz and do a circle around Cabo up to Santa Rosalia over to Guaymas and back to Tucson some time in Feb/ March. Trip should be a 2 weeks Great cheap hotels, excellent and uncrowded roads with plenty of thing to do and see with the friendliest people on earth. Come and go as you please the beaches and warmth of the sun are second to none.

Camping is also a great option. Let me know. I am gone into the desert until after Christmas. Mull it over. Toughest part is making the decision to go for it. Remember all the gossip you've heard about Mexico is just except for those that love to gossip.

I would like to go all I need is airfare, money, a motorcycle, a place to stay and beer. Other than that I am in. :crying:

Good luck on your plan sounds great! :missingtooth:

I'm with Bubber on this one!! Always been one of the rides I wanted to take. Maybe before somebody runs over me that last time.

Gotta leave this AM for Tucson and desert camkping/Christmas but I have received over 12 PM. Best thing to do is to bring it up to the posting level and when I get back early Jan I'll do the logistics. Ideal is to have 6-8 bikes. There are three in now. You're right it is the trip of of lifetime esp when you use the ferries to cross over to the Baja.

Merry Christmas

Just curious, are you guys not concerned about all of the violence taking place south of the border right now.

The media has led us to believe (due to the drug wars and kidnappings) that it's pretty dangerous heading down that way. Is that not correct?

No, I'm not overly concerned. There is no doubt that there IS a lot of violence in some areas, particularly border cities, but there are also other areas of the country that are probably no worse than many parts of the US. In particular, southern Baja is VERY safe (I go down there for a couple of weeks every year).

There is no way I would cross at El Paso/Juarez, but not all border cities are like that. I haven't heard much about what is going on in Nogales these days, but there are other options if the research indicates a more prudent choice.

Back from AZ and thinking about motorbiking Mexico. I have a friend already down near Lake Chacala. I just found out I may have to have minor surgery early March that should keep in home for several days. After that I think I will be able cruise down to AZ see a few spring training games and head via Nogales down to Los Mochis to catch the Ferry acros to La Paz. Probaly days are

D1 Nogales to Guaymas

D2 Guaymas overnight on Ferry

D3-6 La Paz to San Jose del Cabo

D6-9 Cabo up to Loreto via Bahia Magdalena

D9-12 Loretro to Santa Rosalia

D13 Guaymas

D14 Tucson

Any thoughts or suggestion

The trip is on. We have two riders from So Cal and we are meeting in Tucson Feb 26th. We are adding one week and I misspoke as we are biking up to Cooper Canyon than down to Los Mochis then over to the Baja and up to the northern Ferry in Santa Rosalia. Feel free to join anywhere along the trip. We are camping mostly esp near the beaches BUT STAYING IN HOTELS IN CABO

Next year its down below PV then up to Cabo via the Ferry

I would love to go but it is a long way for me just to get to the start. I was looking at an outfit that rents bikes in PV and does 8 day tours through the Sierra Madre and back. It is costly so we may not do it but we go to Mexico and really enjoy it. We took a bus from PV to Malaqui then to Zehuatenao and back. No problems at all. We like Mexican food and all the people we meet are nice.

I'd sure like to join y'all on this trip, but need a wee bit more info to plan it. So far all we have is a departure date of 2/26 (I think). Your initial itinerary showed being out 14 days, but now it is 21? You said join anywhere, but no real itinerary to know where anywhere might be. How tight is the plan you are putting together? I'm cool with just wandering in a general direction each day, but want to understand that ahead of time if that's the way it is planned. You mentioned hotels in Cabo - reservations and hard dates there, or just wing it when we get into town?

How well do the other riders know each other? I don't know any of y'all, so I'd like to know if I'd be the odd ball in a tight group or just one of several odd balls!

You thinking about doing this on the Venture?! I have on my bucket list Copper Canyon but on something like a KLR. I would think a Venture would be very conspicuous. We've been to a number of the smaller boarder towns (walked across). Suppose it's a mute point for me though, my wife won't allow it, that and hang gliding.

Sorry this took so long,

We are still leaving the 26 from Tucson but instead of going from Los Mochis over to La Paz add 5 days for Copper Canyon and 2 more for the Baja.

As to compatibility there may be a problem seeing "you all" is from Texas :missingtooth:

For the most part we are gun-toting hunting/fishing fools, think the Civil War is over and decided, train lab retrievers, love the Big Cruisers, the Mexican people and for the most part really like Obama/Biden. We are libertarian socialist and despise intellectual midget like Hannity, Limbaugh the the newest Herr Beck. We try never to talk politics or religion and for the most part are really happy to be living in the gold old U.S.A. and thinks things are pretty good unless you listen to the media.

Hope this helps

I am posting now specifically as a forum moderator: BEFORE anyone gives in to the urge to respond to Nevada Max's last post here, please consider this - we do NOT allow ANY political discussions on this board!

While Nevada Max's post clearly has strong political content, I must say that it is appropriate here simply because it provides a clear 'heads-up' about their general beliefs to anyone considering joining this group - it is the kind of thing that can really make or break the ability of some folks to tolerate others. For that, I am grateful that he shared it here. BUT . . .

This is NOT the place to respond in any way to those political thoughts. If you feel the need to comment at all, please confine it to private messages, NOT an open post in this thread! Any additional political content added here will result in immediate deletion.

Thanx for listening,

Goose

To all whom may have been put off by my personality traits

I truly apologize if I have offended anyone. We are all American first and this post was meant just to give a heads up for extended very intense but wonderful ride. One of my best friend who rides, camps and hunts always cancels my vote. I wouldn't trade his intellectual thoughts and debates for anything.

I don't think you should worry about it Max; my response was not directed at you. I was particularly concerned that some might feel the need to debate your political beliefs here, which would have been a bad thing for our site.

If you had posted the same thing in a new thread, I would have deleted it immediately, thinking it served no purpose other than to foment discontent. But as I said above (and you repeated), I think it has value here very specific to your planned trip. I just do not want to see it turn into a political discussion. Warning people ahead of time doesn't always work, but I thought it was at least worth a try!
