My Journey to get a Venture (adVenture?)

First_N_Last

I'm a soon to be picking up a (new to me) 2008 Venture.

My addVenture started by searching the internet adds to find the best buy (for me). Many slipped by from my hesitance... some just didn't feel right... some were priced like they were gold lined. Searches, eBay & Craigs List were used.

After days of searches, notes & research; I stumbled upon a poor lonely Red/Black Venture abandoned by it's owner, which apparently left his bike love & turned over to the Dark Side. Yes, the previous owner succumbed to all of the Harley marketing & mantra; & is now marching in line with his buddies (this is just a guess).

Well, the poor bike is anxiously waiting for me to pick it up & take it home. She (the bike) already nows that I love it & have started making preparations to take care of it.

The plan is:

  1. search for & buy a Dowco cover for it as soon as I find a good price
    [Anyone have suggestions]
  2. buy insurance from Progressive the Wednesday before I get it
  3. purchased ticket to fly to Akron, OH (Orbits is the best)
    [leaving early & arriving in Akron on 11/7 @ 11:45AM]
  4. eat hardly anything before flying to minimize human pit-stops on the way home
    [pack some energy bars]
  5. after landing in Akron, get transportation to Dover, OH (in process of finding)
    [anyone have any recommendations - Shuttle service?]
  6. taking my rain gear/suit, full helmet, ski gloves, boots, level 2 armor jacket/pants & security
  7. after giving cashier check to owner, putting plate on, checking tire pressures, checking fluids, filling up with gas (adding Sea Foam)...
    I'll mount my GPS & call the wife that I'll be starting the final leg of my addVenture.
  8. Lastly, start the long fun ride from Dover, OH to Richmond, VA

Woo! Hoo! I can't wait. These Venture bikes seem like they were made for me.

So... I'm still looking for recommendations on:

  • best transportation to get for travel from Akron Airport to Dover
  • any suggestion for buying a cover for the new girl...
    - manufacturers - models - sellers

Thanks;

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure if anyone is near the area you're going to, but you never know. Good luck on the ride home and let us all know when you leave. Some folks along the way might meet up with ya. Of course that would mean your trip could take longer. All that chatting that goes on and the possible food involvement.

Enjoy the bike. Oh and now that you'll have one you're gonna have to make some meet and eats.

Congrats on the new ride. You will love it as I do mine. Just as a side. You do know you can have the bike shipped for less than $600 possibly less than you travel cost. Just a thought.

Shipping was a thought & priced just as you said (under$600) but...

where is the AddVenture in that?

My expected costs to get there are:

  1. $129 for flight to Akron
  2. might do $79 special Shuttle from airport direct to bike
    (unless someone knows about a regular shuttle)

The ride home from there is just fun, food & gas. I don't even care if it's raining, freezing, etc.

I'll just adjust the speed, might hop off expressways & use GPS for back road alternates.

Thanks for the shipping thought though...

The Harley dealer has her hid away in the rear garage storage area of the building.

The pictures were taken today after a wash & wax with my camera phone. Good camera broke on lmy last vacation (rats - 1/2 way up the climb of Frenchman Mt. in Las Vegas).

The YAHAHA plate will move to the new bike. It's my way of telling Harley people that Yamahas (& other mets) are at least $6000 cheeper. Ha Ha!

Thanks for the thoughts.

I hike & climb in the arid areas of Nevada, Utah & Arizona in the summer & often above 100 degerees. You plan, re-plan & plan some more.

My Honda Shadow Spirit that I bought off eBay 5 years ago was from Mike's Harley Davidson in MD. That was an interesting Train ride with gear to get the bike & ride it home.

HD dealers have good deals on non-HD bikes.

Thank you HD!

Hey;

Are there any riders near Dover (OH) that would want to ride along for awhile as I ride home?

On 11/7, I should be leaving Adventure Darley Davidson at about 2:30 PM.

If no riders to ride along, does anyone want to meet an almost really old guy for a mid-afternoon meal/snack?

Message me if anyone is interested. Rain or shine...

Thanks....

Here is a request for kindness;

Any Venture Riders near Dover willing to stop by Adventure HD for me? I would appreciate a quick check of my bike to insure that the rubber is OK for my trip home? It would be nice to have a heads-up about any tire safety issues.

Let me know please. Thanks.
