StarFan Posted February 15, 2008 #1 Posted February 15, 2008 Hi again ! Well since I bought some black hard Venture saddlebags for my Tour Classic then I need to paint them to match the color of my bike. Can any of you tell me where I can get the color code for my bike? I have a complete service manual but I can not find any information there that would guide me to a code stamped on the frame or on a plate on the bike. The color of the bike is kind of a bottle green (vintage green) and creame white in color. The paint shops here in iceland tell me they always have a problem finding the right color code for motorcycles and usually they scan the color on the bike and try to match it. I would prefer to get it right the first time and do this by the code if it is available. Here below is a picture of the bike that shows the colors. Any advice greatly apreciated.

StarFan Posted February 16, 2008 Author #3 Posted February 16, 2008 Jack! Great hearing from you and seems like we have identical bikes Thanks for the info. Was wondering if this color can be made by any general car paint seller like Dupont, Sikkens and so forth or if the Yamaha codes are unique Yamaha codes. I am in Iceland and I think it is kind of a problem shipping paint from country to country, at least by air freight. But I will do some investigation. My bike is arriving here in Iceland in about a week. Would very much like to see some pictures of yours. Send me a PM if you would like to swap some pictures of our bikes. Many thanks for the info Jack.

The color that comes in the can from colorite probable will not match anyway if your bike is a few years old, paint fades with time.
Condor Posted February 16, 2008 #5 Posted February 16, 2008 When a paint shop or store matches your color how does the spectrometer deal with the fine metal flakes in the base coat. The '91 I have lists the colors as 'black blue/ bluish black', and all I could see was the jet black. So I thought there was another color that hadn't been put into our history records. Then...... I took a close look at the paint with bright sunlight hitting it and there are very tiny reflactiions of blue coming from the metalflake base. This must be Yamaha's idea of blue black??? The second color is more of a very dark gray, and it also has blue metal flake reflections in bright sunlight. My concern is when paint stores run a color match does it pick up those base flakes???

StarFan Posted February 16, 2008 Author #7 Posted February 16, 2008 Thank you all for the info. I will take these codes to our Sikkens and Dupont paint dealer here in Iceland and see if this code is acceptable by their system. Let you guys know how things work out. Simply great to have you guys available to help a newbie like me:think:
