LOGAN, Iowa -- Charges have been filed against the man investigators said is responsible for the deaths of four motorcyclists along Interstate 29 last month.

Andrew Schlictemeier is charged with four counts of homicide by vehicle.A warrant was issued for his arrest. However, he's expected to turn himself in by noon on Saturday, according to the Harrison County Attorney's Office.

Schlichtemeier was charged in the head-on crash near Little Sioux on Interstate 29 on Aug. 2. The initial crash report said his blood-alcohol level was 0.373, more than four times the legal limit.Schlictemeier was convicted of drunken driving in 2008 and had a Breathalyzer removed from the ignition of his car months before the crash, law enforcement authorities said.Look for updates on this developing story here on KCCI.com.

What a shame and sadful thing all the way around. judging by the looks, that person seems fairly young and I bet that is his parents in the picture.

Those killed include: Dennis Chaney, 62, of Glenwood; Steven Benscoter, 62, of Pacific Junction; Jay Bock, 48, of Omaha, and Dale Aspedon, 49, of Glenwood.

 

Greene said the motorcyclists were traveling together. Greene said one was wearing a helmet.

We just came through there on thursday morning, they still have those little plastic sticks dividing the lanes. Two way traffic and raining like crazy, it was a very scary and dangerous ride. When we got to the end of that construction zone we went to the nearest hotel and waited out the rain.

When the story first came out in the local paper, the Omaha World Herald, the only thing the story kept going on about was how good a student this kid was. Seems this wasn't his first brush with drunken driving. The vehicle he had been driving when he ran over the 4 bikers had the breathalizer starting gizmo removed just a few weeks prior. According to the paper, he had blown a .303 back for his first DUI. But he's a great student!!!

 

The article also said that a trace of marijuana was found in his bloodstream. Drunk and high. POS! I'd like to be on that jury!
