  1. Ok my 89 VR carbs, 1st was not getting any fuel to the 2 left carbs. I know this for I tested the spark plugs and the plugs spark just fine. With the engine running at about 450 rpms I removed each plug wire 1 at a time. When each of the left 2 plugs were pulled off the engine did not change rpms. When I disconnect each of the right 2 plug wires the engine died.

     

    So I pumped seafoam 1st then carb cleaner 2nd and drained all 4 bowls several times.

     

    Put the key on, put the kill switch to on and the fuel pumps clicking away. When it stoped I hit the started with the choke on and the engine turned over trying to start then I heard fuel running onto the flow.

     

    I unhooked all 4 over flow hoses and put shop towels under each over flow outlet to catch the over flow. I turn the key on and the fuel pump clicked away crazy, then I saw fuel coming out the left two carbs from the overflow outlet.

     

    So is there a reason for the left two carbs to 1st not get any fuel then 2nd both carbs directing fuel to the over flow.

  2. Once again...Brian...with the ambiguous questions. Pleaswe tell us what application or vehicle you are referring to. Flyinfool was right about the belt...on the very early Subaru Justy, but it was a metal belt, not a rubber one. Everyone else was right about the more moderrn trans.

     

    So, Brian, what vehicle...make..model...year...arer you talking about ??????

    My son Tye, showed me his new Subaru XV Crosstrek. Under the hood he showed me how easy it will be to change the oil filter. Hopefully other car manufactures are or will be doing the same. So I asked him where is the tranny filter. He said there are none and no tranny oil to change. As you can tell I don't keep up with auto innovations.

     

    So the original question was to ask reguarding the maintenance of these types of trany and life.

  3. I ordered a Clearview GT25 for '89 VR with grey tint and vent three weeks ago and hoping to get it maybe next week. Then will mount, replace of bunch of bad bolts and a little wiring while apart for it all. Looking forward to getting it on and seeing how I like it. Question, do any of you Rain X your shields if tall enough? Assuming then the rain does not come off and hit you in the face if too short.

     

    Before I wrecked my 91 VR in 2012, I installed the Clearview, tinted, vented GT25. I do not think I did the Rain X but did ride in a small bit of rain (not much rain ). Being a fair weather rider the rain only occurred once before I wrecked in June 2012. if my memory serves me right the water dropplets did hit me in the face a few times.

     

    I almost purchased a shield edging that catches the droplets and then the droplets follows the edging to right&left and then down the side of the shield. I do not recall the manufacture but it was pretty expensive by the foot. Some of the advertisement pictures made the bike look nice then some did not. The other thing is that the edging was black and fairly large and it broke the view at the edge.

     

    I saw a member put on chrome car door edging on his 1st gen shield. it actually looked pretty nice. For 1 roll for $10.00 I thought I would try it (enough for 2 shields). Main concern was how it broke up the view, as I was told by the member after you got used to it the view was not an issue.

     

    I really liked the looks of it and the view did not bother me on a 1400 mile trip. I was also told that the edging also helps reduce some of the water dropplets. Well It never rained on me so. But I think the chrome edging really complments the over all looks of the VR. I plan on getting another Clearview, tinted, vented for my 89 VR in the near future and will put the chrome edging on again. I don't have any real good pictures of it, but it you go to my profile and on the right side look for wrecked 91 VR the 1st 4 or 5 pictures looks like I have the edging on. It's kind of hard to tell.

  4. My son Tye, will soon be turning a new chapter in his life. He has been accepted at WSU for this fall quarter and is looking for room and board near WSU. His last day in the Army is 17 June. He did a preenlistment while waiting to graduate from high school about 10 years ago. He initially enlisted for 6 years and was given the opportunity to attend The Military Language Defense School in Monterey Calif where he graduated as an Arabic Linguist. While stationed at Ft Campbell, Ky he trained Airborne, Path Finders, Sniper and few more. Then one day he told his Mom and me that he is now in the Army Special Forces Unit. He's been deployed 4 times to the Middle East area. Been pulled out of his Humv, been shot in the chest with his armor on, which put him on his butt. He also thinks he is a couple inches shorter due to all the airborne jumps. Awarded the Bronze Star.

  5. My 89 Cruise Control has never worked also since I bought it 3 years ago. All the light would go on. I'll check the Clutch lever when I get it running and out for a test. Mean while knowing what you know about the cruise control system could you maybe do a write up on a list of items to check from simpliest to the more challenging if yours acted like mine and KIC's and pmelah and that is all the lights worked but the cruise control will not response.

  6. Thanks to "aharbi", he found on utube the exact sympton/problem of my exact same Vizio TV model and serial number. Only I did not want to pay $150.00 plus shipping for a new mother board. The problem is very common.

     

    The problem is the mother board has 3 specality retangular fuses and these fuses are tough to find. One of these fuses related to my specific problem and they go out about every 2 years. And mine did go out about 2 years ago only it was covered by the extended warrantee. This 250 volt, 1.5 amp fuse is a bit weak and looses it 1.5 amp rating and after about 2 years it blows again. This then reminded me of a fix I did on another curcuit board. Could not find anywhere the exact replacement but Radio Shack did have the fuse only in the standard glass type fuse. So I just bought an inline automotive fuse and solder it in. Bingo fixed.

     

    As I searched some more I can across a guy with the same exact TV , same exact problem and he fixed it like the way I'm going to fix mine.

    All for less than $10.00. And when in two more years it blows again. The fix will be easy.

  7. Ya, a tree got hit by lighting which was about 40 feet from my house in July on 2012. I was in Vacaville healing from my m/c accident so I wasn't around. Knocked power out at the house. Neighbor came and check the house, said all seemed to be fine. Well when I got home in August I discovered some issues that the neighbor would reasonably have missed.

     

    1) The garage main breaker was not checked so my freezer stunk pretty bad.

    A friend cleaned it and the insurance co paid for the labor to clean about 2 hours.

    2) Garage Door opener was toast. Got new opener installed.

    3) The Direct TV wireless phone thing-ma-jig was toast. I found one on ebay and they paid for it plus 1 hour trouble shoot for labor.

    4) Electric Fire Place no longer worked. I did some trouble shooting and determined that the remote receiver at the fireplace was hit. Found one on ebay. Ins paid for it plus 2 hours of labor.

    5) Hot tub was hit. Found the water level about 2/3 down. New electricial boards, new plumbing for all the fittings were warped. Guess it heated the water way too hot.

    6) Found my 89VR battery dead. The maintainer was hit as a result the battery went dead. Got new battery maintainer and a new AGM battery to boot.

    7) My wife's nose is very keen and did not like the smell of the cleaned out freezer. ins got us a new freezer.

    8) The lighting hit the tree about 20 feet down then it swirled bark and wood off the tree in a swirl pattern as it approached the ground, leaving the the top 20 feet percarously still there. tree needed to come down plus the one in front for it was in thw way. A friend of mine is a logger and he took both down. Insurance allowed $800.00 for that.

    9) I had $1000.00 deductible, but all the labor from friend and myself more that paid enough for the deductible.

     

    Power surges are unpredictable and so the ins company should rule in your favor. Just get a statement from the vendor saying that the surge was the cause.

  8. The '91 is better! Especially the red one! :stirthepot:

     

    I would agree that 91s are better especially the red/burgandy ones, but being that I laid it on the payment for a good 300 ft. There isn't much hope for it, if any.

     

    So I'm going with the other 89s on this thread especially the Burgandy....

  9. there is a relay not working ,stuck how I got mine to work was a heat gun, I would take the back off and warm up the board while it was plug in. getting it really warm and then turn it on reinstall back cover and I never turned it off again. svseral times I lost power I finally got smart and stop taking the cover off and just warming it through the vent holes in the rear cover. I had a loose solder connection on the power board and when board would cool off it would shrink and not connect. warming it expanded it to make connection. I ran the t v like this for 3 years then I found the power board on line for 100.00 replaced it still working fine I can shut it off now.

     

    I know what a relay looks like for a vehicle, but what does a relay look like on a circuit board? I'm not much of an electrical person, but I do know how to take things apart and with some tutoring I'm willing to attempt a fix.

  10. Well with a lighted magifying glass I did not come across what looked liked hair line cracks in the solder. What I did come across is a post unsolder. Maybe it was meant to be unsolder for it looks pretty clean that the solder did not break off.

     

    I did find a glass fuse. Took it out and took a flashlight bulb, a AAA battery and a piece of wire.

    The metal end of the bulb touches the + end of the battery.

    The wire end touching the metal side of the bulb.

    The other wire end touching the metal end of the glass fuse.

    The other metal end of the glass fuse touching the - end of the battery.

    The bulb lights ups, proving the fuse is good.

  11. Thank You very much John. That jet ski part is never going to break again.

     

    As for the carb plunger, I'll ask my machinest friend if he can take measurments off a good plunger and then machine the excess material off the welded plunger. And with all that extra material he should be able to machine that bent neck right out of there.

     

    Cool... I'll post pictures with the results... but it may be several days until he has a break in his work schedule.
