  1. Sat 3 Aug took of from Vacaville Ca for Palm Desert Ca. Part way my 98 Nissan Quest was running 85 percent. Seemed a bit under powered, but was able to keep speed between 65 and 70 mph. Engine temp normal and no Check Engine Light nor any other warning lights. About 20 minutes before Valencia Ca. the engine begins to loose power on any slight upgrade. Only able to do about 40 mph on a slight upgrade. Check Engine Light comes on. So pulled into Valencia Ca and found a Nissan Dealer. Dealer pulled 2 codes, P0325 and P0171. Surprisingly no charge. Being it was now 4:30 pm the service dept is closed and not opened till Monday. We proceed to Palm Desert, luckily for the next 100 miles was mostly down hill or level. Took car to Palm Springs Nissan Monday morning. 4 hours later the diagnotic was. Cat converter for $2721.00 Knock sensor for $1311.00 MassAirFlowSensor for $767.00 Total for $4799.00 Left dealer, paid them their $115.00 for diagnotis and went to Midas. Midas did the duel cat converter for $530.00. Cleared code but car still no improvement. Midas said the cats were in really bad condition and in need of replacement. The check engine codes were cleared and I drove off. Car first seemed to run better but by the time I got to my hotel the car was still running bad. Next day drove the car around to for another check engine light to come on, but did not. However at a stop light I put the car in nutural and reved the engine. The engine slowly reved to 2000 rpms and no farther. Thinking that it maybe a fuel filter, I had Midas install a new fuel filter. But still in nutural the engine would not rev. They also checked the MassAirFlowSensor and found it to be good. Going back to Midas tomorrow morning at opening. Meanwhile I can still drive the car but can only accept later very slowly to about 50mph. Too much gas pedel the car actually looses speed. Oh the fuel filter was really bad also. Been driving the last 600 miles with a special gas additive to clean fuel injectors on each fill up. Valves sometimes pings on acceleration. Any suggestions appreciated.
  2. Ok, got all orders up to here. It is still not too late for others, but as soon as all the payments are in, I will place the order.
  3. Agree...Also I think the VR's engine should be seen and not hid...It looks cool without that black vent.
  4. I purchased my 89 VR in 2010 (25K miles), then in 2011 picked up a beautiful 91 VR (6.5K miles). Both in really nice condition especially the 91. Pictures can be seen on my profile page. Then I demolished my 91 VR in 2012 which has turned into a very expensive parts VR.
  5. Yes some special sort of oil. The oil came with it.
  6. I bought me a rock saw about 2 months ago. Havn't used it yet. My parents were rock hounds and I have my parent's entire rock collections now. Rocls from all over the Pacific northwest gathered over 30 years. Hopefull uses it this winter as a winter activity.
  7. Anyone know what I can do with these? I have about 800 glass slides from the turn of the century from various parts of the world. They are of everyday people going about their daily lives. Pictures of cities, various industries, farmland, just too many to list. Besides trying to sell each on ebay I was hoping maybe there might be some other possibilities. I also have the origional projector in working condition. Your ideas would be appreciated.
  8. Did the gas cap off and on test. a couple days back, did not help.
  9. The Check Engine Light went off on its own. If my wife takes to Midas for a free code check will it still display the last code or is it gone now?
  10. Mike, Thank You, but my wife has it in Vacaville CA. All systems of the Van works just fine, so it most likely one of the O2 sensor. Midas in Vacaville will provide the Error code with no charge. If it is one of the O2 sensor she is just going to drive it like it is. I'm flying down later this summer and she and I will drive it back. I'll replace the sensor whrn I return. Thank You for the offer Mike.
  11. I just called Auto Zone in Vacaville and they said that a law was passed about 4 years ago preventing them from providing this service.
  12. The Engine Check light came on my 98 Nissan Quest Van.. The van ran good otherwise , no other warning lights on the dash. The temp gage was closely monitored while continuing to drive for the next near 3 hours. Figured that be the most important issue to monitor. Bought the Van new in 98 and the last major repair was at 120,000 miles where Nissan replaced the timing belt & water pump also had the fuel injectors cleaned out and tuned up. Since then there has been other repaires but nothing that I can think that could be related to the check engine light. Currently it has about 190,000 milies. I know that many drivers run their vehicles with the check engine lights on and ignoring the warning all the time for it is some minor reminder thing. Anyone know what some of the most likely cause of the engine check light could be, before I take it to a shop. Also anyone have a local Vacaville shop recommendation, besides a Nissan Dealer?
  13. Sorry Jack, don't know them, but I'll put their name in my golf bag cause one can't help meet new people when golfing. It is just the nature of the game.
  14. Get your OEM set customized by Butler. He shaves some discomfort area away and then lines it with memory foam. When you get the seat back, it will look like OEM. After I got my seat back from Butler I did and 18 hour ride then 3 days later did a 10 hour ride and my seat did not hurt. But all my joints got really stiff after about 10 hours. My wife complains about the drivers back rest with her inner thighs, & hips. Thats a trade off. Your back or her thighs. Also try bead seats. As you move around, the bead nodugals act like a messaging effect. I perfer driver floorboards with heal & toe shifting. Get the adjustible hwypegs. I can't rememeber the brand it starts with a "K". I'm sure those members will recall the brand name.
  15. Well 10 years ago when I took up golfing I quickly played 5 rounds of 18 to establish a temp handicap then 5 more games for an official 41 GHIN handicap. Now that is bad golfing, and I had fun in the next 10 years working the 41 down to a 26. Lots of bad golfing, but I was ok with it for I had a hugh handicap. I played in many of local tournaments. Great fun no matter how bad I was golfing. But when the Venture runs bad or not at all. That is not fun. Hmmm. Maybe I should think about a fuel injection bike. What kind of issues does one run not when a fuel injection bike sits for say 6 months.
  16. Thank You Ron. So your from Las Vegas, my m/c accident was on SR266 East bound near mile marker 27. The crew did a very poor job of gathering all of my wreckage. Someday I'd like to go back to the exact spot with a rake and a metal detector just for fun. On a cool day of course. As for golf, I too would tease people chasing a white ball. I started when I was 50, got the bug. Got to connect with a lot of nice people and I love the local tournaments. I love the competition and the pressure of the tournaments. Thanks for the encouragement for both golf&venture.
  17. Sorry, that part of the wreckage never got back to me.
  18. I might have one but what does it look like. I've disassembled most of my 91 VR into boxes.
  19. Made another attempt to fix the carb overflow problem and failed. I'm just getting tired of spending so much time and energy on this. I have so much to do around the house for nothing got done last summer do to my accident. I've gotten a good procedure on the removal process so being that the 91 VR is nearly stripped I will work on removing the carbs from it. Clean up the 91 carbs. Then being that I should know the removal process I will then remove the carbs of the 89 VR. Then install the 91 carbs and see what happens. If it doesn't run, I may just sell it for parts and go back to enjoying playing golf. That was my interest before I got the bike bug back in 2010.
