I need help my thermastat gague on my 86VR is nor working some one said to check relay dose any one know where it is and how do i check it what do i do

I just installed fork springs in my 86 vr in manul it says to put 400mm in forks but i have been reading here when you put prog springs in you don't put that much oil in I put 375mm in forks is that good or not need help THANKS
