  1. Hey Brian,

Always good to hear feedback on extras. Been thinking the Speedohealer my self.

You mention two adjustments. Does that mean that you can individually adjust

both the speed and the mileage?

BTW was thru there about 3 weeks ago tried to call you but you must have been

out of town. Thinking about Sturgis this year. Will let you know.

  2. Way to go Don. A little set back is normal when trying to quit. I believe that the average person will make as many as 6 to 8 attempts at quiting before being fully successful. My heart is so glad to hear that you went right back at the non-smoking and didn't give up on it. You WILL kick this beast out of your life. I quit 2 years ago. The way I dealt with the urge was to acknowledge it and then tell myself that I would take care of it in 15 minutes. By the time the 15 minutes was up I would be busy doing something else and the urge was no longer there. It allowed me time to get away from the "I need a smoke trigger". Yeah it was tough at times but I learned that I only had to fight it for a few minutes and the craving would go away.

We are all pulling for you and we know that YOU CAN DO THIS

  3. I think it is important to not only list the good places but to also to list the places that were a bad experience and why they were bad. Nothing worse than stopping in the middle of a nice ride and getting bad food and/or surly service. As someone else said why should someone else have to suffer if the results are already known. There is a place near me that everyone seems to stop because of its location but the food is average or below, over priced, poor service and cash only. If you go 3 more miles down the road in either direction you will find places with better everything and they will take your CC or Debit card. Would have been nice to know this before hand.

  4. cool. but what is the difference in first Gen and second gen and what year is the cutoff?

1st gens think they are fast. 2nd KNOW they are.

(Don't know whats possessed me tonight but I just could not resist) :missingtooth:

  5. We have two Maltese and both ride with us at times. We have a box I built out of grating that fits on the bag rack on the trunk. Made a hole in the top just big enough for their head to stick out. Usually they will keep their head out up till about 40 mph and then will stick it back out at about 35mph. Only take one at a time and believe me when I tell you that when one gets to go the other one pouts. The male will not wear the doggles but the female will.

  6. My sweetie and I were out and about one day on my Sportster looking for some new gloves for me. We had exhausted all the local shops so we rode up to a dealers shop about 45 minutes from my home. While in there looking at gloves I noticed a Wing and went and sat it. Didn't like the leg room so I got off. As I got off I happened to glance into a smaller area of the show room floor and seen an 06 Venture. Well I had never seen one, and in fact didn't even know what it was, so I of course had to go check it out (you know what they say about curiosity and the cat). As I was looking at it a salesman came up and we started chatting. His name was Lou and he was a tourer himself. I told him that I had been thinking about getting a better bike for long rides and he said hold on. He then moved some equipment away from Charlie (it's future name althought I didn't know it at the time) and I sat on it. Man it was love at first butt plop into that seat. After my wife and Lou pried me from off the bike Lou than set the trap. He told me that I could take it for a FREE demo ride but that I would need to make an appointment so that he could arraigned to have it out. Always being a sucker for ANYTHING FREE I made an appointment for two days later. I than went off to look for gloves but never found a pair I liked (more on that later).

When I showed up for the FREE (yeh right, when will I ever lear about that "free" word) demo ride the bike was all shined up and ready to go. After taking a copy of my license Lou tossed me the keys and said "enjoy the ride". That was it. No set time to be back, no set route to be on, nothing just "enjoy the ride". Well I made a few sweeps around the block to get the feel of it then came back and picked up my sweetie and off we went. We went on twisty road and we went on the freeway, we went along the shore and we went up and down a few hills. After an hour and fifteen minutes we finally returned. The grins were wider than the handlebars and after the Sportster my butt was yelling yes, yes, yes. All Lou did was look at us and say "I told you to enjoy the ride and it sure looks like you did."

Well after we looked at the numbers and the calender (near end of August in Connecticut) the wife and I decided that we would wait until spring and look for one than. Lou was very gracious, told us it was no problem, and come see him in the spring. Let me tell you leaving that dealership without that bike was really difficult but walk away I did (at least physically). Let me tell you all I could do was think about that bike, day and night, night and day. Finally I called my sweetie up during my lunch hour on the 31th of August and told her I couldn't take it any more and I wanted to get it now. She said if I could get it by the end of the day on the 31st I could go ahead and get it and we would go for a long ride over the holiday weekend but if I couldn't I would have to wait for spring. Little did she know how determined I can be when given a challenge.

Immediately I hung up and started making phone calls. By the time the faxs were sent back and forth and bank transfers made and insurance binders acquired it was 430pm. Lou told me that they were closing at 600pm and that if I wanted to get it I would have to be there by then. (Now for those of you that live in the Northeast you will really appreciate this.) It was about 70 miles north of where I worked, on a holiday weekend Friday, and the weather was great and I had to be there in 90 minutes and I was still sitting in my office. Yeah right. It was looking like I wouldn't get there and get the deal done by 6pm and I would not get Charlie after all because a deal with my Sweetie was a deal. To this day I cannot tell you how I did it (nor will I EVER admit to some of the "tricks" I pulled) but I go there with 10 minutes to spare. We got papers signed and the keys handed over in those 10 minutes and they closed the doors right on time. Now I was stuck there with a car and a bike and I did not want to leave either one there. I finally got a friend and his wife to come over and he drove my car home for me while his wife followed and I rode the bike. I will never forget the look on my sweeties face when I pulled up on the bike. I had not talked to her since lunch so she didn't know I had pulled the whole deal together. Oh yeah that "free" demo ride? Well it ended up costing me $13000. That Lou was a tricky fellow.

My sweetie and I took off the next morning and we didn't come back for 3 days. We had a blast than and we have been having a blast ever since.

Oh, yeah the gloves. Well today (after 17 months and 24000 miles and a move across the United States) I finally found a pair of gloves I liked and actually got them. Of course there is this ONE bike in the used area of the dealer out here where I found the gloves that has kinda of caught my eye and Valentines Day is coming up!!!

  7. I'm in Southern California and I use Wild Blue. I work from home running flight operations on the East Coast. Run a real-time flight tracking program with a 15sec refresh, constant email, constant internet weather feed from 2 sources at same time as well as my usual web surfing, personal email etc. I have no problem with this system. Not as good as cable but WAY better than dial-up. Not sure of comparison to DSL as I have never used DSL. I also do WOW and while the response it not as great as I would like (is it ever?) I play with no major problems.

I got it with my Direct TV package so cost is not bad. There is a maximum monthly download but I have not hit it yet. Customer service sucks but if I have a real problem I have "discovered" the direct phone number of the president of Direct TV and we have become "phone buddies" so my problems get resolved VERY quickly now (hehehe).

The only other note is that the upload speed is not quick enough to use something like Vonage, Skype and others. They usually recommend something like a minimum of 400 and Wild Blue only handles about 250. You can't tap if for an internet based phone service.

  8. Got 60 miles on my low fuel light once for 208 total on the tank. Wife and I were running "a little" fast across the desert and it came on at 148 instead of the usual 175. Throttled back to 65 and got the 60 miles. You can bet that the 1st gas station I seen got a visit from me. Based on my usual 40 mpg I used every bit of that 1.5 gal reserve the book claims we have. I never want to push it that far again as it gets really noisy in the back end if you know what I mean.

  9. The picture on the safety placard that shows the plane floating was always a joke to me. :D

Actually it is a joke. This is the first time that a jet aircraft has successfully ditched without breaking apart on impact. The last time any large passenger aircraft successfully ditched was a DC6 and that was done between two destroyers out to sea. The aircraft sank within 5 minutes. If I remember right that was in the 1950's.

  10. The reason you don't see a woman in the video is because us guys are smart enough to figure out how to do this on our own.

If you notice it took less than 3 minutes. How many hours do you thinkit would have taken if a woman WAS involved???

  11. My wife and I both have the HJC Sy-MAXII helmet and absolutely love them.

Until I put this one on I would not wear a full face cause I hated feeling like my mean

old Great Aunt was pinching my cheeks in to the fish face mode. The inner drop down

visor is wonderful and I have had no problems with it hitting my glasses. I use it when

riding west bound at the end of the day in addition to my sunglasses. I have also used

it when I have forgotten my sunglasses. Never a problem and great device.

As for the mics we have the Chatter Box set up and the mic reach up under with no problems.

I would recommend this helmet to anyone looking for a good full face flip up chin bar type helmet.

  12. I spent 6 years north of the Arctic circle with a great deal of that time "on the ice".

First off I think that guy running is photographer cause you can see his camera stand leaning against the truck. Polar bears LOVE photographers (yumyum) cause they are never armed.

Second thing is that polar bears will stalk and hunt a man. Watched it happen with my own to eyes so know that to be very true.

Third off you do not need a large caliber gun for polar bears, all you need is a 22.

This is for shooting your partner in the foot so no matter what you can out run him/her.

    :big-grin-emoticon:

  13. Yep had a great time riding with you Rod and yes you sure do have a riding partner on weekdays hehehe.

Meet some right kindly folks here and know that I will ride with anyone from here

whenever I can get a chance to.
