My last contract job ended last week, so I'm retired again. My new to me 89 Venture is still like I bought it due to the job out of state distracting me which means it is still running rich it seems and the engine barely turns over when it is warm since I haven't installed the 96 starter. However, I am a new member and I would like to start meeting some of the forum members. So, I'd like to ride the suspect VR down to Myrtle and meet you for lunch one day next week if that is okay. Maybe Tuesday since it looks to be a little warmer than the rest of the week. The wife will be working so she can't come.

We took a trip to Vegas yesterday, seen the Hoover Dam (impressive), Freemont Street (equally as impressive) & the Cirque Du Soleil show "Mystere" (Incredible). From Vegas we headed to the Grand Canyon today!! Incredible scenery, this was on my bucket list to see and let me tell you I was not disappointed. Sedona on the way back to Phoenix tomorrow. Heading back to Canada on Saturday, overall have had a great trip so far!! I TRIED posting some pictures of the Grand Canyon but could not get them to upload. Is this a product of the new site or just my lack of techie skills. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
If you have time, Jerome is a cool place to see, a historic mining town on the side of a low mountain.

One reason to buy older low mileage bikes for cheap and not insure them. Or at least no collision or comp.

Wow! Amazing! Thanks for the tip!

I love riding my little 85 Kawasaki ZN700. It weighs 500 lbs and has 74hp, a 4 cylinder with shaft drive. It's easy to handle, has plenty of power and is a blast to ride around town. It would be a pita to ride all day though.

I bought a new tall windshield from Cee Bailey for my 2004 Kawa Concours. It came in a box wrapped in thin foam plastic. Somebody in NY wanted my old one. I checked with UPS and the shipping cost from Homestead FL to NY was $50. He wasn't willing to pay $20 plus shipping.

Green could be good or bad. Makes people think of money......have much they have or how much chrome costs!!
Or the Army!

Not to start a debate on guns or steal the thread...but difference in Canada is that the attitude of most citizens in Canada wouldn't be to start arming themselves. We would say there should be a few more security people at the entrance to Parliament but that would be it.
Metal detectors at the entrance? No...that would spoil the look of the building.
If I wanted to buy a gun more powerful than a pellet gun....I don't know where I would get one. They don't sell them at Walmart here. We don't have gun shops on every corner. Our way would be to go to Tim Horton's (that we have on most corners) and have a debate/discussion.
If you look at why ISIS or other terrorist organizations would attack Canada...it's because we offer token support for U.S. policy. We aren't taking "real" aggressive action against ISIS. We sent six F18's in a support role. Would be different if it were a peace keeping mission...then you'll see Canada on the front lines with troops on the ground.
Different attitude. Different response to actions. Debate, discuss, learn about and understand people of different cultures and beliefs, respect others. The "Civilized" approach. That is Canada. But...take aggressive action against us...you'll be sorry.
For example...the Sergeant-at-Arms in Parliament and Provincial legislatures is seen as a ceremonial position. I didn't know one of his responsibilities is security. He was leading the police and security against the attacker and is credited with taking the fatal shot. In 29 years of RCMP work he never fired his gun. But against an attacker...watch out !
An individual can't really depend on the police protecting them. They can investigate the crime afterwards. I never felt the need to carry a weapon until I worked in Homestead FL for over 3 1/2 yrs. There is so much crime in southern FL that most people live in gated, fenced in, guarded communities. If you live outside your home will be burglarized on a regular basis. FL makes it easy to get a cc permit especially if you are a veteran. You don't have to take a training class. I got mine in less than 2 weeks. Where I live in NC I feel safe. There is an occasional burglary. The last one was a neighbor kid on drugs who tried to go through a window next door to steal something in order to buy drugs. He is currently in jail.

Did it start popping right after you changed the air filters to the UNI design?
When someone posts on the Kawasaki forum they changed to the uni air filters, the advice is always to put the stock filter back on.

I have a 2002 F150Supercab 4x4. The spare tire is lowered by inserting the jack handle in a tube and cranking it down. Easy enough. But, on my model and many others the stress on the cable causes it to break eventually. My spare tire fell off my truck and I never knew it. I hope nobody was close behind when it happened because it could have caused a wreck. On later models, there is a spring on the end of the cable that reduces the cable stress. The NHTSA tried to get Ford to recall these trucks and install the new cable system. But NO, Ford was too cheap. The replacement cable mechanism has the spring that supposedly fixed the system. It cost me about $100 for the new cable mechanism, $50 for a used OE replacement rim and $20 for a used tire. Thanks Ford!

There is incompetence everywhere, hospitals and doctors included. We have to be involved with everything that is important to us to make sure it is done correctly.
Life is very fragile and the end comes for all of us. We can just hope it is in the distance and is quick when it does arrive.

plugged pilot jets? I'd put some Gumout for high mileage engines in a tank and run all of it through. It's good stuff. Or Chevron Techron. Or Valvoline Complete Fuel System Cleaner if you can find it.

I believe one member HDHT (I think )said he put 240,000 miles on his 91 Venture and never had any carb issues.

If he thinks a Yamaha is expensive to maintain, He will just love that B(ring) M(ore )W(allet)! Ha! Ha!

Are you getting a spark to the block by holding the plug cap with conductor close to the engine block.
I had a dead cylinder when I bought my 85 Kawasaki. it was a completely dead spark plug and the bike only had one thousand miles on it when I bought it. That 25 yr. old NGK expired just sitting, I suppose.

I have fond memories during my youth (a long time ago! Ha!)of trips to DQ for their soft ice cream cones. But now they've added so much sugar that I can't stand it.
Seems almost all kinds of prepared foods now are loaded with sugar trying to increase their sales. It's part of the reason so many people are over weight.

Those of you who have not owned a Honda Shadow likely don't know about this issue. I had a '95 I think and I loved the bike but the battery was a very poor design They designed it especially to fit into an odd shaped area so it was not a rectangular battery. It was narrow/stepped down on the bottom. They had a tendency to boil the acid in the narrow section of the battery and if you weren't observant, would spew battery acid and corrode the frame in that area. Great bike but very poor battery design. Here is a picture of the one I had taken in front of one of my houses in Dallas. Also a picture of the battery it took.
That is a weird battery design. Probably had a unique replacement cost too?

I lost my brother when he was age 42. He had Type 1 diabetes and didn't take care of himself. His kidneys failed. A kidney replacement didn't work and he passed due to a heart attack. He was a wonderful person and a wonderful brother, father, and husband. He was 3 years younger than I but I looked up to him.
Exercise and keep the weight off for Type II. Minimize carbs, especially sugar. Eat lots of vegetables.

I gave up on DQ. The last couple of times I bought ice cream there it was so sweet I could not eat it. I threw it in the trash! The rare occasions I eat ice cream, I buy Breyers from the grocery store. It isn't sickly sweet.

I believe that soft drinks, coke, pepsi, whatever, diet or sweet will kill you, or I believe it will kill me! I'm 70 yrs old. I mostly drink water now and coffee. I refuse to give up my coffee. And I consume very little sugar.
When it comes to controlling cholesterol, aerobic exercise works much better than diet for me. In fact what I eat seems to have almost no effect on cholesterol levels. 50 minutes of rapid walking 3 times a week will keep my cholesterol in check no matter what or how much I eat.
Keeping excess weight off and aerobic exercise 3 times a week are the best medicine for the body in my opinion.

Gumout for high mileage engines does a great job of cleaning the intake valves and injectors.
The latest I've read on whether to lower the tail gate is that it hurts the mileage. It's better leaving it up. A bed cover might help but I checked the mileage before and after adding a camper cover the height of the cab and it didn't help that I could tell.
-
One more thing you can do to improve mileage especially on the highway is draft the vehicle in front of you. Just be careful they don't end up as a hood ornament. On the interstate drafting can make a huge difference.
If you lowered your truck a few inches that would help a lot too on the highway.

I have a 2002 F150 Supercab 4x4 with the 5.4L V8. I run Michelin Energy radials(265/70x17-stock size) designed for low rolling resistance. I also loaded a tune from a Superchips tuner. I run my tires at 40 psig. Mine delivered 16.0 mpg driving from Wilmington, NC to Homestead, FL running interstates and toll roads most of the time with the cruise set at 79mph. My speedometer agrees with my GPs and the miles driven was about 15 miles less than what MapQuest said the trip was. I carefully checked the mpg on every tank. It had 119k miles on it at that time.
More recently I drove it 4 1/2 hours mostly on the interstate at 79mph and it also checked 16mpg.
When I was working in Homestead, FL, I drove it to Key West a couple of times (about 260 miles)carefully checking the mileage. The road is a combination on 55mph and 45 mph zones with quite a few stop lights and also included driving around Key West and some 75 mph blasts on the 4 lane between Homestead and Key Largo. The two times I checked it the mpg was 17.4 for the trip
So, my recommendation is to install Michelin Energy tires and load a Superchips program.

There is so much to learn when first starting to ride. When the clutch, throttle, brakes, balancing, turning, operating the turn signals, etc. all become second nature, then it's time to move up if you want. Trying to do all that while balancing a big bike at slow speeds is so much more difficult when you first start riding. It's a recipe for disaster.

I googled Hambruger Joes so I know where it is now. I'll see you there Tuesday. Just let me know what time. My VR looks like this so you can recognize my arrival.
