  1. After a year a miscellaneous down time with stator & electrical gremlins, the time sitting has taken its toll on my fueling system.  My '99 is missing on 1 cylinder, I've done the heavy dose of cleaner into the tank a few times and even direct injecting it into the carb bowl with no real help.  So I think its time to pull the carbs and give them a good cleaning.  With that, I have a few questions

    1.  Anyone done the Ivan's Performance Kit (Ivan's XVZ1300)?  I know his fuel injection re-maps are well regarded, and since I'm already in there it might not be a bad idea since I have K&N filters & Harley SE Mufflers that could probably use a slight boost in fueling.

    2.  I know the gaskets are supposed to be reusable, but I question 25yr old rubber parts coming apart nicely.  I did find Service Kits available (XVZ1300 Mikuni Service Kit) and while the DellOrtoShop shows US, its all based off a Netherlands company.  Does anyone have known good place to buy genuine (not chinesium) parts?

  2. Hover over the link with your mouse and it will most likely show that it goes to a "bogus" website and not PayPal.  The NAME on the email it came from might show PayPal but the actual sender is not from PayPal.

Its a Pishing Scam, where they lure to to a website so they can snag your log-in information and take your account.  This is why 2-Factor authentication is recommended for sensitive log-ins; the ones where you punch in your password, then get a text/email with a code to verify its you.

  3. Had some electrical gremlins, pulled the right and left controls apart to clean all the contacts and I've misplaced the red plastic kill switch cap.  It does not appear as a separate part in the diagrams I'm finding.  Before I spend $50 on an eBay used control... I'm asking for help here.

Does anyone know if this part is available separately?  Does anyone have an old trashed control that they'd be willing to part with?

  4. Just to clarify...
You looked at the "direction of travel" arrow on the tire and it is mounted backwards for the rear tire?  Yes, definitely have it fixed.

IF you are comparing the front tire tread pattern to the rear tire tread pattern, those would be reverse of each other.  The front tire would have the force working against it when braking vs the rear tire having the forces propelling it when accelerating, hence "reversed" construction from a front tire vs rear tire.

  5. I'm not up on the latest Harley touring bike setups and IF they still have a hook-up for headsets.... But I went with Sena 20s because you can get an extra helmet setup that includes a port to plug into the Venture/GW factory radio & intercom.  When the kid and I are on the Venture we use the bike's wired radio & intercom, when we're on the Ural we use the bluetooth.

Sena Helmet Clamp for CB/Audio of Honda Goldwing (20S, 20S EVO, 30K)

  6. I did add a similar LED Run-Brake-Turn bar under the tour pack and used one of Steve's break-out harnesses that made for an absolutely painless installation.  Unclip the main light harness under the seat and put in the new harness provided by Steve, then tag the new light into the breakout wires with the schematics provided!  I also used his ignition relay harness last year when my ignition plug melted.

On a side note,  Happy I picked up one of those Custom Dynamics plug-n-play LED taillight boards back when they were available!

  7. I hang out with a Kawasaki Owners Group up here in Northern Indiana.  Been on many Nomads and really liked them, haven't personally been on a Voyager.  The fixed fairing on the chassis has always been a plus in my book and I've debated replacing the Venture with a Voyager in the future.

I had an emergency HVAC call Wednesday for a site in South Bend IN.   (I was working in Columbus, OH at the time)   Headed up that way, 4 1/2 hours later, as I was arriving, they told me they got the issue resolved, so I could turn around.    I went to the site anyway, and went up on the roof to see what was going on, and it was COLD.....Glad they had it just about done when I got there.    Turned around and drove home.   South Bend, and Mishawaka looked like pretty cool towns, ....but I'll visit in the Summer...You can keep that "lake effect" weather.

Good thing you didn't have to come any further west than St. Joe County.  The next county west (LaPorte) got hammered with 3' of lake affect snow Friday morning to Saturday morning.  It was supposed to hit Lake & Porter Co. but the winds shifted to keep it further east.

  9. Just got over a few days of -10 plus wind chill in Chicagoland, now they're calling for some serious Lake Affect snow across northern Indiana (I'm right at the IL / IN boarder just outside of Chicago) with possible weekend accumulations of 12-18".  I had my outside frost-proof spigot blow earlier this week and my side-yard is an ice rink!

@ragtop69gs no I didn't buy at Walmart but from swap meet years ago. It is on my 2 tractors when I plow and blow snow from mine and neighbors sidewalks and lane ways as it is used for visibility when snowing. Even then I have to watch all the idiot drivers when going lane way to lane way.

I put those 3/4" round flush fit LED marker lights you see on trailer, yellow on front & sides, red on rear...its pretty well lit up and looks like a small car at night with the headlights on the plow.  That wasn't enough and almost got hit a few times cleaning my alley.  So I did a similar pole-mounted yellow gyro-light on my JD tractor for the same reason.

I recently joined this site and also just bought a 2006 RSV. I was wanting to know if anyone has a set of OEM pipes they would sell. Or maybe trade for screaming eagle pipes that I have on my bike now. Thank you.

Are you looking for just the mufflers, or a full header & muffler?

I'm 99% sure I have my OEM mufflers on the shelf in the garage.  Send me a Message with your zip code and I'll look into shipping.

Some people have relegated it to be nothing worse than the common cold. Somehow I don't think so, but going by what the media reports about it lately, maybe there is some truth to that thought. Could be, herd immunity, has set in?

Medical friends have called it a worst-case condition of the flu... definitely more than the common cold, but media reports a "sensationalized" version for ratings.

May not be so subjective. My last rear tire a Dunlop E4, had a big lengthwise split in middle of the tire (a split not a cut) and probing it revealed it was separating from the cord as well. It also started slipping in the cornors. The tire still had better than 50% tread and was new in 21. As well it spent the past year sitting on my lift in the garage. This is the third set of Dunlop's I had to replace before its time. The first set (E3's) I replaced because the bike suddenly started to slide sideways on highway ramps despite still having 30% tread, the rubber just got hard. The second set E4's at about 50% developed the same slipping plus a bad case of hair line side wall cracks too numerous and deep to feel comfortable about. And now this second E4 with the 2 1/2 " split to the cord down the inside of one of the grooves. Plus it too was starting to get slippery. I am done with high end Dunlop's. If any thing I would go back to the 404. However I decided to give the SHINKO 777 a try since they seem to have a good following on this site. I only replaced the rear and so far I am very pleased with it.

I remember reading your review of the E4 fitments on the Venture as well.  I have the 18" front wheel and certain tires don't mix well on top of an aggressive riding styles.

My H.D. buddies on Dunlop E4s love them.

  14. My current rear tire is a Dunlop E4 and at 50% tread life it's the worst feeling tire I've used on this bike (obviously that's subjective).  The tip-in feels very vague for the initial lean then almost "falls" into the turn, once in the turn it feels less stable and "slippery".

I've had very good luck on this bike with Shinko 230 Tourmasters and 777 HD.

My riding buddy swears by Commander 2 from 2 Kawasaki Nomads and now and Indian.

There is some on Ebay. But $280+ is a bit steep for a pair of mufflers in my book. HD road glides worked fine for me. Actually I took a long trip with a set and declaired not again. So around town I didnt mind the HD muffs, but trips I put the OEM back on.

Actually any TOURING model Harley Davidson muffler will work (Road King, Road Glide, Tour Glide, Street Glide, Ultra-Limited-Classic batwing bikes).  There's simple L-brackets that can be made to mount them and you'll need a 1-3/4" collared clamp.  Do a quick search on the forum and you'll find schematics for different brackets or even 3/4" P-clamp mounting options.

That'd be awesome! What exactly does that system do? It sounds like it's not really needed.

I guess that was some of the few parts I didn't keep.  Its an emissions control unit that injects a small puff of air into the exhaust pipe to cause a secondary burn of any unused fuel coming out of the engine.  I've disabled it on a few bikes during tuning with no adverse mechanical results, but obviously slightly higher emission out the tailpipe .
