  1. I picked up my reworked RSV seats from Rick Butler in Wylie Tx and was on the way to Love Field. I pulled over to arrange the seats back into the large suitcase I used to carry them in and when I was done I looked to the left before walking around to get into the rental car. I spotted the Google street view camera car coming. I was a little slow on the up take but remembered that I have seen people chasing after it in costumes etc so I raised my hands. Guess that was a little late. But there I am, full frontal, so to speak. Sure glad I wasn't captured in a compromising position.... https://www.google.com/maps/@32.955088,-96.583464,3a,75y,262.69h,69.75t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s4gvRdxIjKXYwVhvBaxhTvg!2e0 Anyone else get captured on Google Street View? 2. GeorgiaYankee - why not put out a call to all on the forum asking if they would like a taller flip up. Ask Spencer how much they would be each for 30 and maybe you will get 29 others that want it too. just a thought. VentureFar...
  3. This is an interesting read about the physics of the wind in our face=== over the windshield: http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Fairing.html VentureFar...
  4. Jimbob66 We all have such different experiences but I want to share a safety issue with you - looking through the shield. I live in Los Angeles and two times on local mountain roads I have been in a turn and had my shield INSTANTLY fog opaque. Had I not been able to look over it INSTANTLY minus 1 second of panic - I wouldn't be here. When the shield fogs it is an interesting phenomenon of just the right temp and humidity at just the wrong time. Also, my wife actually said she prefers the lower baggershield on our highway cruises because it feels like " I am riding on a motorcycle and not in a car". After all the "wife" comments mentioned on this forum, I didn't expect mine to say that. But then again I don't expect to hear a lot of the things she says, but that is for group therapy and not this forum VentureFar...
  5. Couple of questions as I am 5'11" with leveling links. What helmet do you wear? Many full face will rattle you but because of wind coming UP your chest, not over the top of the shield. If you are using a full face STUFF the chin area with a scarf or two and try it that way. I stopped all buffeting with my Scorpion exo700 by using their "chin skirt". Have you ever put your hand across your chest to feel and stop the wind from coming up? If you slouch do you still get hammered? Try this as a potential and cheap fix. Buy 1" or 3/4 clear plastic tubing for fish tanks and slice it and attach along the ridge of the shield. use tape to hold it down ( making sure it works before permanent install) that extra lip has worked for some to change the airflow and reduce the hammering. Sorry you are having this problem. I love my baggershield which I use most of the time in the low position unless it is cold or rainy VentureFar...
  6. Yamagrl: "Life just don't no better'n this!!! You got that right Sister! Good on ya for doing 18 hours in the saddle. If that had been on the Interstate you would have gotten yourself an IRON BUTT Saddle Sore achievement! That's kinda like a Wild Hair Award.... VentureFar...
  7. It never rains in Southern California ... Wait, that is just a song. Still raining here in La but not next weekend when it will be in the 70's. don't worry you snowbound friends, it will melt soon! VentureFar...
  8. I spent 3 years researching touring bikes and then bought my 2007 (5000 miles) in march 2013. Now 15,000 miles and I am convinced this bike is everything I want in a touring bike. Wife and i sat on them all and the RSV is the one the wife was the most comfortable on. Guess what, if momma is happy then everyone is happy. I would buy another venture in a heart beat and then do all the same mods to it as I have now. I love my RSV. Period. VentureFar...
  9. Is there a wiring diagram on this site? VentureFar...
  10. It is an aftermarket set. This is where I got them and how much I paid. You can buy them from many sources and almost all the others are less expensive and free shipping. It is only because of the exorbitant charge for shipping that I do not recommend my supplier. just google 18-4615 and you will see the same part everywhere and cheaper.. Same part, exactly. Even the service writer at North Hollywood Yamaha when pressed agreed a better fix is points replacement instead of a whole new fuel pump. 18-4615 - K&L Supply Universal Fuel Pump Point Switch Kit Universal Fuel Pump Point Switch Kit Color: Black @$33.95ea. Subtotal: $33.95 Shipping: $17.77 via UPS Ground Estimated Delivery: 2/24/14 - 2/27/14 Sales Tax: $0.00 Total Amt: $51.72 http://www.powersportswarehouse.com 329 By pass 123 Seneca, SC 29678 864-888-8123 Hope this helps. 11. I mounted my VisionX 20Watt Led's up high- one on each side. I have the right one fixed and the left one a bit loose so I can adjust it while driving - closer or farther depending on the situation. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/spotlocationtest_zpsac4e9a15.png They are on L brackets bolted though under the mirror stalk. I get greater distance and spread UP high rather than mounted to the fender bolts. These light up the road ahead for a measured 600 feet. I can go 70 in pitch black and be riding within my SEE TO STOP distance. This is what get's the cagers attention though Click on the video- it takes while to load if embedded in the post http://smg.photobucket.com/user/ihavethespirit/media/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/Headlight%20pulser%20installation/7Kisanworkingvideo_zps559ebf13.mp4.html VentureFar...
  12. Short story on Airbag. Buddy riding the first year Goldwing with airbag hit a cliff at near 70 degree angle at 50+ mph and he lived because of the airbag. Not sure I would wear one. Sure there are documented cases of the few people wearing them walked away from traumatic body injury accidents but really, why are you riding a motorcycle in the street with all those bad drivers if you are that concerned about 1/3 of your body being mangled. What about head trauma -even with a full face Dot helmet? what about your legs and arms getting mangled? Buy a Miata or mini cooper and have a lot less to worry about and you still have the wind in your face. VentureFar...
  13. Why the ignition switch bypass? leveling links are awesome. Buy them from rick butler and save half over diamond...I am just sayin' VdntureFar...
  14. Just unscrew the single Phillips and peel the cap open. Slowly as wires run thru a grommet. If the wires won't slide spray some wd40. There they are. Look in the middle. That is the points. They should be clean and square. Not eaten up. To replace Two screws and one soldered wire. No skill required. Just don't play with the springy stuff like I did. VentureFar...
  15. Actually I laughed out loud. I truly enjoy this forum and everyone I have had the pleasure to begin to get to know - and that includes Cowpuc. VentureFar...
  16. Bongobobny is correct and funny. I like that. If you pull the left side cover off you will see a fuse box and a round black plastic cover. The round black plastic cover protects the points - that go clackity clack and push- suck- pressurize the fuel system. If the points stick together due to uneven wear or burning up then the fuel pump doesn't work and you come to a stop at the most inopportune time. Please open that black cover and look at your points. They should be clean and straight cut. If not, your choices are buy a replacement set of points for $29 or an oem pump for $300. The rest of this discussion is about alternative "points" for the oem fuel pump. VentureFar...
  17. So I received my new points set and was anxious to get them in and get my RSV running. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/Newpoints_zpsa844287f.jpg Being the curious person that I am, I did a little pushing and poking and OH NO! BOING ! It all came apart. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/newpointsOOPS_zpsd2f80d8c.jpg Luckily I had the old part to compare against but it still took me quite a while to figure out how to "spring load" it, but I get it back together. PHEW! Next I went to install it and it didn't work. No open and close. I remembered reading somewhere to make sure that "something catches " on the post that comes out of the pump. There is a groove around the little post that needs to snag on something on the points. The odd shaped hole in the piece I am pointing to with the pliers is the edge that needs to snag the groove. I tried it several times and it is a spring pressure that pushes the edge of the hole into the groove. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/ihavethespirit/Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Midnight%20Venture/newpointscatch_zpsd02c9919.jpg Just take your time and DON'T get curious how the springy parts work....... fyi it doesn't "clatter" like the factory points. I don't hear it making the familiar click click click, but it is working. I will definitely be checking it every 10,000 miles from now on. Hope this helps. VentureFar...
  18. Not starting is a parking lot is one thing but dying in the fast lane is life threatening dangerous. Picture this. Uphill passing a semi in heavy traffic and just as you pull back into the lane your pump freezes and your bike is decelerating in front of a semi at 70 down to zero mph with no way to move left or right. Remember you are in gear- not coasting. Your fuel pump is not a nuisance it is al life safety part that gives no notice until it goes out. Please check it. VentureFar...
  19. The beginning failure of the pump is intermittent. Ergo people have figured out to knock on it. Please open it up and look at the points. As you have read on the forum - over 100k and still have the factory score lines and me with 15k and burned out. Simple check. And as a bonus in pulling the seat off to get at my fuel Filter ( since I was already in the vacinity) I found out I had lost both bolts holding the pillion. VentureFar...
  20. K&L Supply Universal Fuel Pump Point Switch Kit many places have free shipping on ebay. I wasted money buying at http://www.powersportswarehouse.com they charge $17 shipping - my bad for not checking around. Will buy my spare on ebay with free shipping.
  21. This is the points kit K&L Supply Universal Fuel Pump Point Switch Kit many places have free shipping on ebay. I wasted money buying at http://www.powersportswarehouse.com they charge $17 shipping - my bad for not checking around Symptoms. When starting - bike just won't catch. starter spinning the motor just fine and you can tell it is missing "something" - then you turn the key off and turn key back on and notice NO CLICK ( from the fuel pump) take off the left side cover- key on - tap on the face of the fuel pump and clicking starts - voila - diagnosed - stuck points. Pull the black cover off the fuel pump and eyeball the points - mine were burned away on one side. On the freeway, the bike acts like you hit the kill switch - but you didn't. - same fix on the side of the freeway. Hope this helps VentureFar...
  22. Amazing difference between mine at 15000 and yours over 100,000 and still brand new. Service writer at north Hollywood Honda -yamaha said it is a maintenance item and check every 15k. Go figure??? Mine vrs yours. Interesting. VentureFar...
  23. Welcome to the forum. Best place for guidance and friendship on the web. Just to be clear, it is not the fuel pump. I have become quite the maven on the topic and if your pump doesn't work your bike doesn't run period. I agree with all the above. Try the "gum out" products first before tearing into the inner bits. Once it is back to running then watch out cause all the great ideas for making the RSV better will cost ya ( but worth it). Don't get frustrated, there is plenty of help here. I will be in Vegas for work about April 1 lets connect up for a spot of tea. VentureFar...
  24. Remember to follow the instructions you don't want to break the tabs on any of the pieces. Especially the accent piece in front of our windshields. Go slow and deliberate. And everyone I have recommended get a baggershield loves it. As you see above- no complaints. Some owners and wives just like to ride in dead air and that is definitely not the baggershield. Good luck VentureFar...
  25. I have 10k miles in 9 months on my baggershield. 2 iron butts also. I love it. Period. Use it low most of the time and only up in the cold or rain. I am 5'11 and the freeway wind hits me four inches above my eyebrows. in my normal "slouch" my face shield stays open. If it sit up straight it slams shut. But I get very little buffet from it and none when flipped up. Wife likes the airflow with the top down "says it feels like she is on a motorcycle vrs the stock shield that kept the wind off of her. Baggershield gives a discount to forum members. Remember to ask for it. Make sure to keep the Wing nuts tight. If not they will vibrate lose and drop off along the freeway. It looks super cool and feels great in summer. VentureFar...
