  1. Well, we rode 1,700 miles with no issues other than the buffeting and poor mpg which really wasn’t an issue since we had to stop about every hour to cool off from the Texas heat last Saturday. So far I’m pretty happy with this bike and the best mpg I was able to get was 33mpg.

  3. I have a 65 mm and I just tried it on the filter p/n you specified and it fit perfectly. I have used other brands of filters and it never fit on them. I used the channel locks on those!

  5. Been a slow couple of weeks but I am still making some progress. Working on the air compressor unit and I just finished it up. Disassembled, cleaned, painted and then reassembled. Also changed out the old desiccant with new. Here are a few pics. Enjoy!

  7. Just bought a 2006 midnight Venture with 11,00 miles on it. At 65+ miles per hour, and especially in a head wind, the bike gets scary to ride. The wind turbulence bounces it all over the place. If have to pass a Semi, it gets VERY scary and starts to wobble, feeling like it might start a tank slapper. Very disappointed with high speed handling. It has new tires, so hopefully that isn't the problem. If I can't make it ride like the highway bike it is designed for , I will sell it and find something better. I've had lots of different bikes, never had one handle so bad as this one.

  8. John Furber is the guy to talk to. The options are to put the VMax gears in your pumpkin or buy a VMax pumpkin and machine in the speed sensor hole. The FJR final is the same as the VMax, I bought one and had the machining done locally and kept the OEM final to re-install if I sell my bike.

  9. Many on the forum have seen my conversion. This is a description for newbies: 1985 Venture Royale purchased for $600, very rough looking with second gear popping out. Cleaned it up, sync'd the carbs and rode it for a while by skipping past second. Found a 1987 1300cc engine in MO. and was told it had about 44,000 miles on it. Arranged a meet in Tulsa. Cleaned up the 1300 and tested compression, etc. It seemed to be sound. Found Vmax cams on Ebay, a forum member had Vmax springs, a local shop had needles for the carbs. Adjusted the low speed jets many times using my home-made tool. Tried different shims on the carb needles. The Beast ran pretty good, in between carb problems. Rode the beast for some time. But, every time it sat in the garage for a couple of weeks the carbs would screw up. The last carb failure coincided with my acquisition of a 1992 VR. The '85 has been sitting for a couple of years now. Decided I wanted to rip out the stock carb set and try something else. FI is too expensive, thought about half of a Q-Jet, Then I saw a story about a primary/secondary two barrel carb and home-made intake. I have the carb, waiting on an opportunity to build the manifold. I have lots of other tales about this build, all you have to do is ask! Here are some pictures . . .
