lomax Posted January 9 #1 Posted January 9 So for now, the fuel pump on my bike is working fine. What i'm thinking is to get a set of points for the pump in case of trouble. Looking at K+L 18-4615 on Amazon. The question I have is can they be changed out if I"m on a trip and it fails? Do they require any soldering of leads or are they a quick change with with a few tools that can be done on the side of the road? Cheers
BlueSky Posted January 10 #2 Posted January 10 Yes, you need to solder one connection. Watch this video.
RDawson Posted January 10 #3 Posted January 10 I inspect the points when I do my Spring service. If they’re showing wear I replace them.
lomax Posted January 10 Author #4 Posted January 10 Thanks for the info. I"ll have a look at the points before riding season.. Cheers
Paul Martin Posted January 13 #5 Posted January 13 https://www.venturerider.org/forum/forums/topic/58615-what-did-you-do-to-your-venture-today/page/58/#findComment-819668 Check this out. I've driven just over 1100 miles since removing the fuel pump from my 2001 RSV. No issues.
lomax Posted January 14 Author #6 Posted January 14 I've heard a bit about this before. Did u just remove the pump and join the inlet and outlet hoses together or reroute the supply line directly to the carbs?
Paul Martin Posted January 14 #7 Posted January 14 I just used the fuel line segment that came from the petcock and looped it back into the fuel inlet at the back of the carbs. Removed the rest of the fuel line and the pump. When I get a chance, I'll take and post pictures.
