There are free trials on many of them. http://www.windows-xp-update.com/virus-protection.html However for the most part....generally you can run WITHOUT an anti-virus program if you do certain things...Most virus's / adware / spyware we get is because of our behaviour on our computers. Don't ever open attachments in your email until you have confirmed with the sender that they did infact send you an email WITH an attachment. Don't visit PORN sites (for the most part). Don't click on HYPERLINKS in email messages. I understand if you still want protection and there are many. If you want to try one of the best ones out there.....click on ESET which is NOD32. A very light weight yet powerful program that most of all the computer tech guys use and talk about. You can also go to http://techguylabs.com where Leo Laporte talks about anything technical. davepa Posted May 10, 2008 Share #8 Posted May 10, 2008 I had a glitch in AVG 8.0 and removed program then reloaded and it ran fine. If you also had the previous AVG free the new would not load correctly untill the old program was completly removed.
