oconeedan Posted April 12, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 12, 2015 My choke knob was a boring, standard looking, plastic knob. What was Yamaha thinking? I pulled it off, and replaced it with a nickle plated .308 shell casing that I filled with epoxy. Maybe this should be in the "poor man's fixes" forum? It cost me nearly nothing. FYI, I would suggest next time you replace your front tire, replace the stem with a metal one. The additional weight of the shell is pretty minor, but there are a lot of shock/vibration on the wheels that might cause some difficulties. Did you epoxy a standard valve cap into the shell? Personally if I had thought of it I would have cut the thing a little shorter. Even on the Schrader cap. I think he mentioned using epoxy... Drill out the proper size, add a little more epoxy, and slide it on. It doesn't stick out too far, but is easy to reach. Yes, I do intend to replace the rubber valve stem with a metal one when I get the tire changed. And all I did was epoxy a standard plastic cap into the shell. I did not do the rear, as it's angled and I didn't want the extra weight bending it when riding. So shells may not be everyone's cup of tea, but you can use anything you want for a choke knob....dice, little ball, barbie head, little skull, or one that you turn out of wood.
