I need one more 12volt source "help"

I just bought xm snap for the bike but now i need another 12 volt source for the gps. can i hardwire gps cord inside fairing to the backside of the 12 volt outlet?? If i do this do i need an inline fuse, if so how many amps?? I was thinking I would drill small hole in fairing to slip wire thru then dab some silicone to wateproof, is this a good idea??

there are specific hardwire kits for diff gps's. check ebay, or buy form gps manufacturer. I use a Powerlet...

It sounds like it is time to add an auxiliary fuse block. They fit nicely under the fairing.

Whenever you " add " anything, its always best to install a seperate fuse.

 

At least, an " In Line " fuse in the + line to the new item. Its easy, and you can get them most any auto parts store, if you don't have one.

yes, but make sure you use the right wire for gps. it needs to be "stepped down" in voltage so it doesn't fry the electronics. I really don't know how it works, but that's what im told....like skydoc said, im an "electrical weenie"....

well I just bought a hardwire kit on ebay for $19.00. reduces voltage and is direct fit for my gps. thanks for all the input, like I say , this is the most knowladgable forum out there.
