Venture tank on RSTD

I just purchased a Venture tank for my RSTD to get the extra fuel capacity for trips. Is there anything special I need to know to swap it? In the pics, it looks like a direct swap. What do I use for a sealer for the petcock? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. R.

Hey, Farm. I don't know the answer to your question, but I am curious about your leftover tank. I have a friend with a RSTD that just mashed up his tank. You gonna sell it?

Have never done this, but they have a rubber o-ring for the petcock.

Here is what I have learned thus far. The sheet metal that supports the chrome surround by the gas cap is different. There are no mounting points for this trim. The petcock assembly is the same and mounting is the same. The fuel sender for the gauge is the same part number too. I ordered the Venture center strip / console that goes from forward of the gas cap, down to the seat. It is riveted to the gas tank in two holes that are on either side of the rear bolt / mount. I don't know about a frame difference that you guys mention, so I may run aground with this project. I'll post when / if I get it mounted with the details / issues. Thanks. R.

I've been tinkering with the idea of doing this too. Here's what I found on the delphi forum. Sounds pretty easy with minimal additional parts needed. Good luck and don't forget pics of the finished product.

the 90s RSTDs and RSTCs are a completely different frame from the 2005 and up RSTDs.
