Cooler for saddlebag?

Owen

Recommended Posts

I bought one from American Eagle Leatherworks back in 2002, used to strap it to the luggage rack on my 98 Tour Classic, never leaked always kept eveything cold. The one I have is a little big for the saddle bags, but I can put it in the trunk, works great.

Looks like they have one designed for saddle bags on their site.

See link below.

You can get a cheaper cooler bag something on the order like Midrsv is speaking of from

Wal-Mart for about $9 bucks.

Like Monte, I went to Lowes (4 yrs ago), and bought some aluminum angle and made a cheap cooler rack that fits on my trailer hitch. When I made the cooler rack, I made it to FIT an existing cooler I had sitting in the garage that holds a 6 pack.. It works great...

I have the HD saddlebag cooler and it works well for daytrips...its thickly padded but will hold several cans, and a small amount of ice, (or a prefrozen icepack). I found it ideal for carrying a couple of cold sandwiches and a couple bottled drinks that are chilled, and it will keep them cool for several hours. If you pre-freeze some small water bottles then use them as the icepacks, you can drink them when they thaw out and not have to worry about carrying and returning those thawed liquid ice-packs.

It WILL fit in the Venture saddlebag, but takes up about 3/4 of the interior space. Some of the HD dealerships have them on the shelf.

I have this small 6 can one from WallyWorld

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-Trail-6-Can-Cooler-with-Removable-Hardliner-Blue/16523743

it fits easy enough and is ok for a lite load

Has a hardliner so wont leak .. unless ice melts and splashes out..

7" depth is about all you have to get it in past the lock .. so longer and taller would work but not deeper

I bought a Polar Bear 12 pack cooler for my Kayaka nd it is a GREAT quality cooler. I haven't tried it in the saddlebags yet, but it looks like it may fit?

However... this is the one I'm thinking about!

Thanks for the feedback! I see there are more choices than the ones I initially found. I like the looks of the PolarBear and may end up with one of those, but the price of the Wally world one warrants a closer look. :happy34:
