Old Miner Posted March 4, 2011 #1 Posted March 4, 2011 Is it possible to change the front fork oil on a 1999 Second Gen. RSV with the forks still on the bike? It has done 30K miles and everything is OK with it but it may be the original oil and may need replacing. I have had the bike four years and it has not been changed. Your thoughts please. I have looked at as many threads as I can and at the Yamaha manual and the Clymer and they all show the forks removed.(I don't want to go down that avenue just yet). Thanks. Neil. (Old Miner).
Old Miner Posted March 5, 2011 Author #2 Posted March 5, 2011 So from this I take it that it has never been done?????? Neil.
Freebird Posted March 5, 2011 #3 Posted March 5, 2011 It is apparently not a usual thing to do. Yamaha did not even include drain plugs for the front forks and they say that it is not necessary to change it. I don't know that I agree with that. I did find an article written by a former member. It was posted at the Venturers site. Here is a link to it. http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002013&id=319
Old Miner Posted March 5, 2011 Author #4 Posted March 5, 2011 Mmmmmmmmm????? Thanks for that, on closer investigation the manual shows only one of the fork legs with a bottom drain plug/ stud. I think I will leave well alone until the seals go or I cannot think of anything else to do on the bike.. However it must be the only bike I have ever had that will not allow this. Many thanks and best wishes. Neil. (Old Miner).
