Water in final drive

Recommended Posts

Just drained the rear Hypo oil and there was milk in the oil. It was changed in March and about 7000 miles ago. I went on a rideabout to Omaha-Dallas-Charlotte and rode in a fair amount of rain but not terrible. What seals do you think are failing? The bike has 131,300 miles.

Are you seeing any leakage?

On the top of the pumpkin is a covered vent. I would think some water may have come in thru there. Also, check the O-ring around the speedometer pickup.

No leakage, vent appears clean and I have no other thoughts.

the water can wick into the vent when driven in a heavy downpour, however it is more likely to be from condensation being parked or stored in a damp area, or stored under a tarp when the engine is still warm.

if you don't see any leaking, or loss from your fluid level, then don't change any seals.

just service it often.
