Anyone running Dunlop E3's with smaller front?

I'm ready for tires, and extremely hesitant about downsizing my front tire, mainly because I can't get a single mechanic or shop to say that it will fit my rim. I know many here have done it with the Avons, but does anyone have the 130-90-16 Dunlop E-3 on the front of their RSV with the stock rim? Any issues whatsoever? :confused24:

Thats right 130/90-16 Made the bike turn easier.

Thanks TEW, just wanted to hear from at least one person who had the specific tire, since different brands can vary a bit in size even though they are 'marked' the same.

Well, just got home from my first 50 miles on the new skins, Dunlop E-3's with the 130/90 front. I'm going to have to come up with a new nickname for 'The Beast', because you all were right - it just doesn't handle like one anymore. Much easier to maneuver in the lots, and it seems to want to pull me into the turns instead of waiting for me to push it through. Just like everyone said, it feels lighter too. Next week I should be testing it through the hills of WVA and VA.

My 'I' basket is due to arrive tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to yet another improvement. I just hope I have time to get it done before I leave for the Chesapeake this Sunday. (I need to cruise up the peninsula and get Delaware on my map.) It sure would be nice to only hear the 'crickets' at night...:amen:

After well over 1,000 miles on the new E-3's, I have to say that I really like them. I rolled them through the hills of WV and VA all week and they handled like a champ. The bike sure is a lot easier to handle, it must be a combination of the new tires and the smaller front. In any case, I'm pleased with my choices. So far every decision I've made based on the info from this forum has seemed to be the right one for me. Gotta love it! :cool10:

Evening Friends,

Was wondering what kind of mileage you're get'n on the rear 150/90-15 Elite 3? Last set of Dunlops I put on my 07 RSV they were the 404's, that rear tire looks like I might be able to squeek another grand outta it, seems it should have gotten better then 8,250 miles out of it!? I keep 40 pounds on the rear and 38 on the front. The front tire looks like I just put it on, no wear at all! Your thoughts on the Elite 3 versus Avon Venoms? When I had my 99,01 and 04 Nomads, I got great mileage out of the Avons.

Looking forward to your comments!

Y'all have a great evening.

I replaced my rear with 15K on it, the front will last another 5K. I replace mine with plenty left too. Not trading my or my wife's life for a 1/8 inch of rubber.

Don't compare the D404 to the E-3. D-404 is Dunlops Low price tire, the E-3 is designed for the Gold Wing. Caseing is 1/2 in. thick. the D-404 is 1/4 in. thick.

Thats the Caseing, not the Tread thickness.

D-404's run about 8 to 10K. ( on a toureing bike )

The Elite series, usually run 15 to 20K. I ran an E-2 older version to 20K.

I consider a D-404 to be a good tire for, a Honda CX-500, for running around Seattle, ( Solo ! ) Very good tire for a 500lb bike with a 35 HP motor. :stirthepot:
