Front brake lever lube?

I've noticed that my front brake lever kind of "catches" as you pull on it, not a smooth pull. Seems to be due to it rubbing on the actuator/plunger in the master cylinder and not having lubrication there. It appears that there is a slight depression or cupping in the actuator where the lever makes contact. I sprayed some dry lube on it and it smoothed out for a couple of days but is back to catching in increments again.

 

Is this normal and what do you guys use to lubricate that contact point?

I use Chain Wax on mine. it last longer and won't run or drip on anything when it heats up. Most bike shops cary it.

Use a white lithium grease (available in a spray can at the auto parts store) or other water resistant grease.

It might be worth looking at the pivot pin and hole in the lever while it's off and make sure there's no appreciable wear. That could make it snatch if it's not a snug fit.

Mine does the same thing. I've used synthetic grease to help smooth out the action. It lasts a month or two. That actuator "rod" really needs a rubber tip.

Thanks guys. I've got some hi-performance Champion chain "wax" left over from my first ride that I'll try first. Then the lithium since I've got some of it too. Finally, I'll try the synt because it will require a purchase. Thanks for the feedback.
