'88 bad second gear?

Recommended Posts

If it would be a Pin Problem, most likely there wouldn't be any upper Gear shiftable.

I'd say "lost second Gear" sounds more as a Case of bent Shift Fork or Shift Drum worn out. Or the Dogs need an undercut. If so, not an easy fix, the Motor has to come out and splitted.

Reading old post here and found something known as as a pin problem, I picked up a 83 parts bike and when i got it runnin down the road I find there is no gears 2nd to top, does this mean I have a pin problem and how do I go about geting my gears back.

FYI, I had my tranny apart years ago due to a failed bearing. No real damage. But while in there I saw that ALL dogs are undercut on the 1300 gears. YES ALL. I had no rounding of dogs at all nor any type of wear after 70k+ miles. Maybe it's also the way I shift? :fingers-crossed-emo Also, the pins fall out because the shift drum is "wobbling"...aka the case is worn where it rotates. OR the "pawls" that rotate the drum are loose.
