turtle Posted March 11, 2015 #1 Posted March 11, 2015 I am going to replace the rubber plugs behind the cylinder fins lost one while i had fins off for Diamond Cutting (Thanks Mike ) so i was told if doing one might as well do all. Have not done this before is there anything to watch for or not to do ? i am still looking for a thread for this procedure but paint , body work , and most mechanical i am ok with computer searches not so much. Thanks in advance best site ever and can i say love my bikes 1st and 2cd gen.
vzuden Posted March 11, 2015 #2 Posted March 11, 2015 They are easily removed by screwing a used spark plug (plug wire end) into the center to pull them out. Would be a good time to drain and replace all of the coolant and there are write ups on that. In fact if you find one of those there most likely is a description of replacing the freeze plugs.
M61A1MECH Posted March 12, 2015 #3 Posted March 12, 2015 Click on this link to V7Goose's write up on changing coolant. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/37353-tips-changing-2nd-gen-coolant.html
JDaniel Posted March 13, 2015 #4 Posted March 13, 2015 Turtle I replaced those plugs in Feb. of 2014 when I adjusted the valves.
MikeWa Posted March 14, 2015 #5 Posted March 14, 2015 When changing the coolant I highly recommend adding some water pump lubricant. The coolant says it comes with water pump lube in it. But it is not enough. Add a little more and you greatly reduce the stress on the water pump bearings and seal. Mike
turtle Posted March 16, 2015 Author #6 Posted March 16, 2015 Only did the one i lost thanks for letting me know Jdaniel.
