Parts Identification

I have a question, regarding Yamaha's use of part numbers.

 

Is Yamaha consistent with their numbering system, for identical parts, across models and years?

 

If the same part was used in a Venture, VMax and/or Royal Star, during several model years, would the part numbers be the same?

I believe that for the most part they are. You can check for yourself at these site though. Sometimes the part number changes due to some slight modification yet the part is still interchangable such as the rear drive because the later ones have an added hole for an electronic speed sensor or the gear ratio is different but yet they are still interchangable. Check these parts sites.
