  1. Not sure if it the same kind of "whine", but mine does it too. Mine is what I refer to a a "whistle trill". It sounds like someone is blowing lightly on a whistle, and no matter what gear I am in, it does it at 3000rpm.
  2. Do you mean just the reflector? I have a trunk at home that I can rob one off of, if it is good. I can let you know. PM me if you would like to see one
  3. I'll have to look, but pretty sure I have the whole piece.........if you are interested
  4. I don't know how much work you want to do, or what kind of look you want, but if you just want to clean it up and get a bit more shine, use 0000 steel wool. Maybe go as far as to clear coat it then.
  5. Sitting on the bike, #2 cylinder is the front left #2 #4 #1 #3
  6. Here is the one that I have........in near perfect condition
  7. I'd have to go look, but I am pretty sure that I have one also. If you want, I can go look and get a picture of it for you. Let me know. Maybe get a ride out of this deal.
  8. And I bet yours was the best bike of the three that went. (inside joke)
  9. When it acts up, is it right away, or is it after a little driving? Now you say that it will not go over 6000rpm. When you hit that, is it dead on power, but just enough to keep going?
  10. Just opened up a set of forks and wondering about the spring. One had the tight coil up, and the other had the tight coil down. I think the tight coil is supposed to be down, but not 100% sure. Which is the proper way?
  11. So there's a couple of things to look into for now. Let us know what you find. This pic is the valve set to (OFF) for the noraml running position. Well, I really didn't find anything. Did as you said, cap off, start bike....coolant was moving, and more as I throttled up. Checked thermo. and from what I could tell it was working also. Level in tank was good, etc...... Maybe this is normal, but I do not remember it running this much before. Anyway, thanks for the input.
  12. Out on my bike ride the other day, temp below 60F, I am sitting at a light for less than a minute, and my fan comes on!!! WTF!!! I said, as It seemed too cool outside for it to need to run. May I be having coolant flow issues, maybe thermostat? On top of this, when the fan did come on, my volt meter on the dash went from 14 volt down to 12 or a little less, and sounded/felt like it was going to stall, Again WTF?
  13. I thought everybody started their day doing some version of this before taking their bike out, you know......just to warm/wake up...................I do..
  14. Cylinder #1 170 #2 80 #3 180 #4 150 Put oil down the #2 cylinder gave it a few minutes, and did comp. test. Pressure went up to 150. Waited another minute, tried again and pressure went up to 160. As I mentioned in earlier post, I also did an air test. Put #2 piston at TDC and hooked air line to the cylinder. No noticeable air came out of the exhaust, or the carbs, teling me the valves are good. Took the oil fill cap off, and air was coming out, so air was leaking out around the rings. Thus my conclusion that the rings are bad/stuck/worn/broke/PITA.....
  15. The bike has been acting up, with a hesitation mostly when cruising. Engine will drop off, then pick-up, leaving you shaking back and forth. Before anyone says CARBS, they have been all redone. New gaskets, plugs, o-rings...... I have looked at so many things, that compression test was the next step The compression in that cylinder stopped at 80 three times. Did wet test, up to 150, 2mins later 160
  16. No such luck there, the bike that I got for parts is 84 VR. I have been doing a lot of looking around, trying to price gaskets/parts, and just looking at the work involved in the tear down. Big job either way.
  17. When I bought my bike, it "supposedly" had 23000kms on it. Now it has 31000. Two seperate mechs. told me in their opinion that was probably correct. Anyway, just lately, I came to find out that I have low compression in the #2 cylinder. Did a wet test, compression went up. Even did an air test, which to me, points to a bad set of rings. I also recently bought a parts bike (all in pieces) and the motor has 52000kms on it, and not sure if 2nd gear works or not. I am now at the point where I can't spend a lot more on my bike. So, my question is: What would you do? Pull my motor and replace the rings, or just do a swap-out with an unknown motor. PS: the second motor does turn over, and will check compression before doing anything, if I can........
  18. Thanks. Thats what I was thinking, most would interchange, but could not find any reference to it. I was told the only thing that did not work was the leveling module for the air ride, and a couple of parts missing (almost complete).
  19. For the 84's, can someone tell me if the parts are interchangeable. I have the V Std, and may buy a Royale for the parts. I specifically need the forks (if they are good), then could use some other things, and spares. Thanks
  20. If you go through the trouble of doing this, I hope it works for you........but. It sounds similar to the problem that I had with mine when I got it. I had a bad pick-up coil. The bike ran fine for the first 10+ mins, then lost all power, and would sometimes quit. It would not start until it cooled down. my 2 cents
  21. To define good: Any forks that are not pitted. Mine have pits in them, and just ruined my seals, and are leaking. My go-to bike guy said I will need forks.
  22. Just wondering if someone out there can give me a rough idea how much I may be looking at to buy a good used set of forks. Thanks
  23. I had this same problem on my 84. I did change the bulb, but I also had a bunch of corrosion around the bulb housing, and the ground wire was all green. I punched out the bulb holder from the plastic housing and cleaned it up. I also stripped a bit more ground wire. Put it all back together, and now it works great. Hope this helps.
