  1. One thing a person gains by going for the 2013 F150 with high miles is better and more technology. The comparison that I made to the Venture is a bit difference as the 2nd Generation Venture didn't change during its run. If I were seriously shopping I would go for the higher miles 2013 simply because I love the looks and all the new gagets. Miles don't really bother me....
  2. In Iowa almost all pickups are 4WD and most are not used for plowing snow. Especially the Lariats. I'm not buying - just posing the question.....
  3. Sometimes when I'm searching through ads I wonder if there is a good way to determine what is the better value: An older low miles vehicle or a newer high miles one. For example: I found a really nice 2006 F-150 Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 with 50,000 5.4 engine in excellent condition for the same price of a 2013 F-150 Lariat Extended Cab 4X4 with 140,000 Ecoboost V-6 also in excellent condition for the same price. If those are the only choices - which would you choose? The same kind of thought could go in purchasing a Venture. Is the low mile 99 Venture a better buy than an 07 high mile? How does one determine such value?
  4. Hey Scott, I remember the day when I got the call that my son's girlfriend was expecting. He was a Jr. in High School - she was a senior. I like you, thought my world had fallen apart. Plus the fact that I was a pastor in a very conservative church. I cried every day for months - especially after the mother handed the baby over for my sister and husband to adopt. Our decision was to offer as much love, grace, and support that we could. We got through it - and my grand-daughter is a beautiful 16 year old - who was brought up in a great home (my sisters) and continues a relationship with her birth father and birth mother although they split up later. You will have a beautiful grandchild who can be a joy in your life for many years. Some of God's greatest blessings come from our deepest trials. Hang in there and we are all praying for you!
  5. I picked up an 83 Venture tonight that looks to be in pretty good shape. The guy said it needed a sparky thingy!!! Said he took it to a shop and they said it needed an ignitor box. Not sure what he was talking about but I will find out with your help! Has 41000 and got it at a good price. Said 2nd gear worked too....
  6. I love my Roadstar and you will love your new ride. They are great bikes for the money and like the Venture they are basically bulletproof. There is a ton of info on the Roadstar clinic site where you will get some great ideas and advice.
  7. it wasn't me but the cap on my Road Star wouldn't come off. It was right after I bought it and I had filled it once. When I filled it - the cap was hard to put on so it was impossible to get off. One side would come loose but the other wouldn't. So, I carefully pried it off. Then I discovered the cap arrow was backwards... he previous owner must have had the cap apart and put it together backwards!!! UGH!!!
  8. Great thoughts Don. If I were taking longer trips I would consider the Venture again. The thing I hated about my Ultra, Roadglide, and Voyager was the heat. In fact, I really liked the Voyager with the exception of engine heat. Not sure they make many aftermarket parts for that either! One thing I like about my Road Star is that you can make it your own. There are a ton of after market parts and you can find many of them on Craigslist for a fraction of the price. My 08 Road Star turned out so sweet the guy I bought it from kept pushing me to sell it back to him -and I finally caved in last month. I miss the Royal Stars - they are great machines. I keep hanging around and looking at them - maybe someday I will go back - but for now - my Road Star fits me best.
  9. The play was a HUGE success! I have people I don't know stopping me on the street telling me they can't remember when the laughed so hard I pinch myself with the quality of talent we have in our small church and to be able to pull off a major production like this is just amazing. We are celebrating our 150th anniversary this coming weekend.
  10. We are doing Smoke On The Mountain this weekend and I was on the local morning show! [ame]http://youtu.be/JgXGLWSeXo0[/ame]
  11. My son wants me to get a dealers license! Ha. The friend who bought my 08 has been after me all day to trade him this 07 for my old 08 even up. I loved my 08 but this is a pretty sweet ride!
  12. Last year I bought an 08 Road Star from a friend and road it for 14 months. I made it a pretty sweet ride and the guy I got it from wanted it back. He made me an offer I couldn't refuse so I made the deal. Yesterday I scored on a very sweet 07 Road Star with less miles and far less money than what I sold the 08. Hopefully the pics will upload!
  13. Replaced the Plasma with my man cave LED and the circuit has been fine. We determined that the circuit that had the bathroom exhaust, bedroom ceiling fan, and several lights needs to be separated into two circuits. The third hasn't kicked out since we moved in. Figured it was the air compressor doing it. They are arc breakers and much more sensitive. Thanks for the info!
  14. I have Arc breakers due to code and have been reading that they can be a pain. One thing they don't like are older Plasma TVs and that's what is causing the one to trip. I guess will have to pict the 50 inch plasma in my shop! I will check out some of the other suggestions.
  15. We re wired our house and used 12 gauge wire and all new breakers, outlets, switches, etc. we used 20 amp Breakers. I have 3 circuits that keep tripping under minimum loads. Tonight I was simply hooking up a dish receiver and the breaker would trip on me. Something isn't right. The work was done by a good friend and he's coming over tomorrow to look at it. Any thoughts.
  16. Ordered relay and it came in today. Rode for 15 minutes and no problem!! Hopefully that will take care of it! Thanks for the advice!!
  17. Replaced fuse - started bike - started to wiggle wires - got to the FI relay - wiggled it - bike died. Replaced fuse again - started bike - wiggled relay - bike kept running - idled for 10 minutes without a hitch. Shut off engine - pulled Relay to check wires - they looked good - put relay back - turned key - fuse blew before I hit the starter button. replaced fuse - fuse blew again. Thinking it can be a bad relay. Yamaha shop is closed today - have to wait until tomorrow!! UGH! Hope the relay is the problem!
  18. I have a manual but no link. I really haven't had any time to check things so hopefully tomorrow night I can start the bike and start moving some wires around looking for something that grounds out. Thanks for the advice!!
  19. Replaced fuse - started bike - put it in gear - and yippee - it kept running. Put it in gear 5 times and it kept running---- Yippee!!! Hopped on the bike - got a 1/2 block - and fuse blew! At least I rode uphill and was able to coast into the garage. It is parked for now.
  20. tank hasn't been off this year - ---- need to find time to work on it......
  21. They call it the Fuel Injection Fuse. When it blows - you have power but you can't start it. It will turn over but won't start. The manual says there are five possibilities for it not starting. I checked the codes and they all check out okay. I will not have a chance to work on the bike until next week. Just looking for advice so I have it in hand when I begin.
  22. Well, I posted this on the Road Star Clinic but seeking help here as well. I have an 08 Fuel Injected Road Star. Went to ride it a week ago and it wouldn't start. Took awhile but the fuse for the FI was blown. Replaced fuse - bike started right up. Got ready to ride - started the bike and the moment I put it in gear - fuse blows and bike dies. Ran through the codes again - and no codes came up. Replaced fuse - same story - put it in gear and fuse blows. Any suggestions? I am not great a chasing down electrical problems!!
  23. I have an Ultimate on my Road Star --- I've had Mustang and Corbin seats and this is by far the best seat of all. Found a four piece set on Craigslist for $500.
  24. I have a really cool nephew just finished several years with the Peace Corps and teaching at a school in Africa. He got home July 1st and is job hunting. Last year while he was home for a visit - he bought a used Vstar 1100. He has been home a week and the starter clutch is going out so I've been doing research. First, it is beyond my comfort zone to do the repair work and second, I need to get our new house ready by Aug. 15th so every spare moment is spent there. Plus, I live in Iowa and he is in Omaha. I willing to help him with buying the parts. Does anyone know someone in the Omaha/Lincoln area who repairs cycles on the side? From what I read due to the timing - you want someone who knows what they are doing.
  25. As I was reading through the three other times he listed it on Ebay - two of the VIN numbers didn't match - that's what did it for me It still needed a bit of work on the front suspension, etc. I think it is a nice car and if it were what I really wanted I would have gone after it. The first two times it sold on Ebay it went for 7800 and 8000 - but one buyer didn't have finances and the other wanted to pay with Paypal. The Seller claims that both new the title was a rebuilt one. If he had disclosed early on that it was rebuilt I would have been more comfortable but he didn't until we were ready to meet. My Road Star has close to 5000 in chrome, etc - and KBB is 7620 - but we know you can't go by KBB. Anyway - he told me that my Roadie was only worth 7500 with all the accessories and at first wanted me to cough up $1500 difference. Then he went down to a $750 difference ---- after that he disclosed the title issue. If the title were clean - I would have given him the difference - but I walked away and am glad I did. An 80 Camaro isn't one of my favorite cars anyway!!!
