  1. Exhaust pipe removal and installation on the left side of the bike. I found a post on here where someone asked how and what was needed to take the exhaust pipe off. He got several replies but no one ever explained the process. I have checked the shop (service) manual and I see how to take the left exhaust pipe off so unless there is a trick not shown in the shop manual that should not be a problem. Since I have never done this before do I need to replace the wahers that seal the exhaust between the engine and the exhaust pipe? There is nothing wrong with the exhaust pipe I just need to replace the rubber boot on the shifter where it connects and goes into the engine. It will make it easier to get to the shifter seal also so I can get that thing out. Thanks, Harry
  2. I have plenty of motor oil to seal the seal with I also have some lithium grease if that would be better. The back of the slave unit when I took it out had a bunch of dried crud on the back rubber boot. The crud was all over the push rod that sticks out of the engine case. I wiped the crud off as best I could. I will use some carb cleaner or brake cleaner to try and clean the push rod before re-assembly. Should I use something like axle grease, or motor oil, or lithium grease to put on the push rod before I put the new slave unit back on?
  3. Good idea mine are starting to crack.
  4. Yes I did order 2 of those and thanks for checking.
  5. I have some very long needle nose pliers. It's about 6"'s up in there with not a lot of room. I want to be very careful as Jay said you can mar the surface underneath the seal if I'm not careful.
  6. Thanks I bookmarked that link and now to see if I can find it on from the parts house I ordered all the other parts from. If I can add it before they ship I will not have to pay additional shipping.
  7. That makes a lot of sense and sounds a lot easier than I had imagined. Ok one more question. Where do I find the part number I that I need to order the seal. I can't find it on any of the parts supply diagrams. Or I am looking at it and I don't know what I'm looking at.
  8. Good point bongobobny! So I understand the concept of knocking it out with a socket but there is the shifter shaft coming out through the center of the seal. The shaft looks to be about 6 inches long and if I were able to get a socket or a punch on it then it would be tapped into the engine not out. Do you go in from the right side of the engine where the clutch basket is?
  9. 2nd Gen. I have followed a post on how to remove the master cylinder slave unit. It is a very good post and I have removed it without any problems. Currently waiting on parts to arrive. In the post the author states his shifter seal was leaking oil and recommends replacing it while everything is torn down. My shifter seal is now leaking also. I did not see it leaking before, ever. Now both of ours are leaking. Is it leaking because the system is now open allowing air to enter the engine? It was not leaking before but is now leaking a pretty good bit. The post on changing out the slave did not say how to change the seal nor can I find anything out doing a search or looking at the shop manual. Does anyone know of a post on how to change the seal? I know if you wiggle the shifter shaft the whole in the seal seem to stay put and you can see the shaft moving around within the seal and you can see oil start to come through. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as always. Harry
  10. Thanks but that is Shadetree. I ordered it from them on May 18th. I called yesterday and they checked their supplier and told me it was no longer available. They are taking orders but the order just sits there on backorder and Shadetree never follows up unless you call them. That is who I am getting the trunk organizer from (I hope).
  11. Does anyone know where I can get a pair of Choko Yamaha Star Motorcycle Saddlebag Lid Organizers? I bought the trunk and saddlebag organizers for my MM several years ago from Big Bike Parts. Now they do not sell them. I purchased a trunk lid organizer from Shadetree Powersports but the do not have the saddlebag lid organizer and they can not get them anymore. I called Choko and they can not get them anymore. So does anyone know of a dealer that carries them? Thanks, Harry
  12. Good Idea! I did not order the thread sealer because in the pictures they all show a band of something on the threads I thought was thread sealer or Lock-tite or something. I will definitely try the Teflon tape. Thanks!
  13. I agree with you, if you see tiny bubbles then to me that means air. I just placed my order today. Bought the slave and parts #23, 24, 25, and 26 along with the case gasket and a case gasket for the other side so if I decide to put my other basket back in (they both whine) and the little copper washer that goes under the screw at the 6 o'clock position from Partzilla. Partzilla was $12 cheaper than Yamaha Sports Plaza.
  14. I went ahead and ordered the bag. I figured it was easier to order the bag and tube than to find a container and and a hose that fit. The tube was the biggy. I could have gone to the store once I had the speed bleeders and saved three or four dollars. It's only
  15. Thank you I will save them. I never through anything away. That is part of my problem.
  16. Alright I'll look for the bleeder bag. Thanks!
  17. Thanks I'm headed to ebay right now!
  18. Thanks I will down load it to my computer. Now I remember there is on posted on the site. Thanks!
  19. Yes I would like to get a speed bleeder. I found a post with a link but now I can not find it. I will check ebay. Thanks!
  20. Thank you. I found a post on another forum that tells how to change the slave (push lever comp as Yamaha calls it). I found the post on how to bleed the clutch and with the help of people here giving me a lot of good advise I think I am ready to order the parts and tackle the job. Thank you everyone for helping me track down the problem. Harry
  21. No I wasn't bleeding it. What is the slave and is it easy to get to? I can't find anything called a slave in the online parts catalog. I did find a post that said to buy a new one as thing to rebuild on is not always successful. I also found a post in the 2nd Gen read only section that tell how to bleed the clutch but the only things I can find mentioning a slave don't tell me what or where it is. I kinda have an idea where it is but am not sure ho to get to it and I don't know what the technical name is so I can look up a part number and order it.
  22. Alright I have found something. I don't know what I have found but someone here probably knows. Brake fluid is dripping from under the motorcycle. It is coming from some where in the center of the engine. There is a short (maybe 10" long") clutch cable on the bottom of the engine. One end goes to the lever. That end appears to be alright. The other end goes up into the engine. The fluid appears to be running down this piece and dripping on the floor. Does not sound good to me whatever it is.
  23. Thank ya'll. I found the small hole and I stuck a piece of copper wire in it. It went about 1/2' down the small hole. The fluid that was in there was dark and there was a layer of slug on the bottom of the reservoir. I got it all out and wiped it down. Can someone tell me where the drain plug is? I still have not found my shop manual. Thanks
  24. Thanks. I have a bottle of Valvoline Syn. Dot 3 and Dot 4. I am using. I am trying to find a link on a speedy bleeder that I found a while ago but now I can now find it. I want to have everything I need before I start this job of flushing the system.
  25. Ok I will but I need to find my shop manual first to see how to flush the system. Where is the pinhole? Inside the reservoir or outside the reservoir? Harry
