  1. Had my 20,000 mile service done. Cost me $289. Used Sherman Power Sports. They quoted me the price up front and a list of what they would do. Was very pleased.

Had the oil changed at 24,000, had a coupon fromn a local shop.

Also have a special from the local shop (owner used to work at Yamaha as mechanic) for a full service will use for the 28,000 mile service. His normal price is around $300.

Unless you got a lot of extra work done it sounds like you got way overcharged.

  2. Used my new mug Saturday and Sunday riding. Sunday morning at 8 I put ice and water in it. Add water during the day. When I got home at 3:30 it still had half of the ice left in it. Even though it was cloudy and cool it lasted a long time.

Thanks Don, I really like it.

  3. If I am going someplace for a weekend or long weekend I will ride and stay in Motel. If I am going for 4 days or more I trailer behind my Motorhome and stay in campgrounds. Have all the comforts of a motel, plus get to sit around campfire at night and cookout. It is all about enjoying yourself.

  4. We have had 2 bad wrecks in North Texas this week. One Monday and a death Thursday.

Monday was a sport bike on HWY 75 north bound lane in Allen, TX around 4:45 PM. I passed by in my cage just after it happened. Ambulance and Police just arriving. Bike was in right lane, helment was on the shoulder and he was on the other side of the guard rail laying in the grass. Someone was with, but could not see much, I was in the far left lane. I talked to a friend yesterday who told me he was 20 years old from Princeton, TX. Her daughter knew him. She said he was paralyzied from the waist down. Could not find an article about it

Did find this article in the Sherman News.

A deadly wreck Thursday, involving a motorcycle and a semi. Traffic was backed up for miles. And, now a truck driver behind bars.

It happened approximately 12:30 p.m. in the 500 Block of Highway 75 in the northbound lanes, right in front of Bearcat Stadium. According to police, the semi was driving in the right-hand lane, the motorcycle in the left lane near Pecan Street.

As they passed the on ramp, the semi changed to the left lane to get around oncoming vehicles.

The man driving the motorcycle, John David Cox, of Denison, swerved to avoid getting hit and instead was thrown from his bike into the guard rail.

Officials say the man was not wearing a helmet.

The accident backed up traffic on Highway 75 for close to three hours.

During that time, Sherman police arrested the semi driver, 46-year-old James Edward Cornelious, of Arkansas, was booked into the Grayson County Jail. He's facing criminal negligent homicide for unsafe lane change.

  5. Carry my KelTec 380 in the gun pocket of my leather vest when riding. Doesn't take up much space or weigh alot. If I stop someplace that I can't carry inside I put it in my Tourpak in one of the sleves at the back and lock it.

For all you folks that balk at me carrying a 380 instead of cannon (I have 9mm, 44's and 45's I could carry) remember it is better than not carrying at all. Sometimes I do carry my Bullpup 44 specail, just the 380 lighter and easier to conceal, can put it in my jeans pocket if I want to.

  6. If you use an enclosed trailer I would definetly use a GOOD floor mounted wheel chock to stabilize the bike. I have a 7' X 14' Vnose tandem axle with electric brakes so I can haul both bike and ATV. For 2 touring bikes you probalby want 8' wide. I use the chock from Harbor Freight. It cost $75 and permanetly mounts to floor, has eyebolts for tiedowns and the bike will stay upright by itself while I attach the tiedowns. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=97841.

Also I beleive all new enclosed trailers over 12' with electric brakes use a 2 5/16" ball. You will definetly need the equalizer hitch (about $300) and brake controller (about $90) to use with a trailer like this.

  7. I HATE VERIZON!!!!!!

Told them what they could do with it a couple of years ago. Had similar problems. Moved into my present home and wanted second phone line for computer (dialup). Waited 3 months and payed $175.00 for a second line because the their box did not have enough capacity. Finally got it and it worked fine. Connected at 46 to 48K most of the time. After 6 months someon else needed another line and they came and reworked everything. My connection speed dropped to 24K. Called customer service and they said only guarntee phone service, not computer. Told them I payed $175.00 for the second line and they screwed it up and wanted it fixed or my money back. They said too bad. I had them kill the second line.

A couple of years ago had problem with phone, quit working whenever we had storms. They would come fixit and it would do it again. They finally got tired of coming out and replaced the main box on the house. Worked good for a while. Came home one day and phone would not work. They came out and fixed it. Said it was in the wiring. 2 weeks later it quit again. They came out and fixed again. Said it was in the wiring. Told me it was under the house and would have to charge me to fix it the next time. I said I have paid for the inhouse maintenace and should be covered. Called and talked to 4 different people at Verizon and they all said they did not cover lines under the house, in the attack, etc. Apparently if they can't easily get to it they won't fixit. I told the last STUPERVISOR I talk to where he could put it and disconnect my phone right then.

I have removed all the lines from my house back to the main box outside and use cell phone. Went without internet at home till last summer when wireless finally became available in my area (live in a small town).

Apparently customer service means nothing to them.

  8. I rode but had a deadline, so it was earlier than usual. Saw one other bike. We don't have rain forecast, but we do have lotsa heat. The thought of commuting home in 95F heat might discourage some.

    Dave

I rode, supposed to be 95 here in North Texas this afternoon also. At least not as much humidity as Houston, but Saturday afternoon was brutal. 100 at my house with 78% humidity.

  9. I don't have one on my Venture yet, but is on my list to add. Had one on my VSTAR and it definetly made a difference. I noticed many times people doing double takes when they saw the modulating headlight, don't know if they thought I was a cop or not. Anything to get noticed by cages is a big plus in my book, but there are better alternatives than really loud pipe IMHO. I have noticed with my LED Accent lights I do get seen easier at night, even though I do not ride alot at night. Way to many animals out where I live in the Boonies.

  10. This is one reason to join an organization like the AMA or ABATE. They and other motorcycle organizations are working on getting legislation passed at State levels as well as National levels to make stiffer penalties for incidents like these. They also work on issues such as motorcycle awareness to the public and education. Even though I might not agree with everything they do or stand for the majority is very important to me.

    There is strentgh in numbers.
