Holding the handle partially in allows all the tiny air bubbles to work their way up the hose line to the reservoir. Leaving it over night ( sometimes for 24 hrs) usually helps and you get a good firm handle the next day. The oil is very thick (relatively speaking), so it takes a while for the bubbles to move thru the oil. This procedure worked for me when I put new lines on my 1st Gen.

  2. I mounted my unit behind the bullnose so it was in the airstream (for cooling). On the left side ( as you sit on the bike). Then ran the red and black wires directly to the battery terminals with the 10 GA wire. This way the unit will monitor the voltage directly at the battery and not thru all the old wire harness. The wire harness is old and may have built in resistance due to it's age and distance from the power source. I think that the closer to the power source, it will result in better reliability. Mine has been wired this way for a year now with no problems. I can take a pic of the unit if you want to see how it is mounted. I mounted it to a metal plate which acts as a heat sink.

  3. Tinfoil is easier to shape to your head then the colander that I use. You have to be very careful whenever you are outdoors. The NSA monitors everything now even your thoughts!

Better to be safe than sorry!!!!!

  4. Be very careful how you bypass this connector. Doing it wrong or with the wrong voltage will short out your CMU (computer)!!!

Skydoc_17 on this forum makes a bypass kit to resolve the problem. Go to "classifieds" at the top of the forum page and then click on Member Vendors and then Skydoc_17.

  5. Not sure about the RSTC but look on the bag locks, there may be a number code there. Also check under the chrome ring for the gas cap or under the cap itself. The 1st Gens are stamped on the outside of the ignition housing, if I remember right. Need a small mirror to read it instead of trying to take switch apart.

  6. Measure the depth of the battery, and add the length of the battery to this dimension and then add a small amount to this and drill a hole in the side of the case just aft of the battery. Stick a small screwdriver or rod in the hole and try to pry it out or at least move it. Once you get it started then you can reseal the hole with RTV. Insert a screw in the end of the battery and have someone pull on the screw while you pry thru the hole. Pushing and pulling at the same time.

I did this with a Maglite one time and it worked OK.

  7. Hey, Count:

Every day in WNY ends in "y" also. As in "lazy" day! Especially when you are retired! If it wasn't for the time and date on my cellphone, I wouldn't know one day from the next. :)

  8. I just made a reservation at the Oberlin Inn for MD and was told there are 3 rooms available for Friday night and 6 rooms for Saturday night. That was at 2:30 PM EST.

If you are planning on going now is the time to make your reservation.

And a big thank you to Big Tom and Jonesy for alerting me to the room availability. The people on this Forum are awesome!!

PS: No explanation was given as to why I was told that there were no rooms available when I called earlier on 2/3/14. I did not speak to the same person, today, as when I tried to make a reservation on 2/3.
