  1. Hello folks. Been a while since I've been on here. Regarding fixing cracked plastics, I've used self adhesive fiberglass drywall joint tape and E6000 adhesive. Put the tape over the crack and spread some E6000 over it and there's a pretty strong bond there and it's easy especially in places where you don't see the work.
  2. That works for me. Just changed the oil on Sunday. Tiny amount of metal shavings on the magnet. Otherwise all looks good. I won't worry about the noise and just ride it! As long as I start it in neutral without the clutch engaged there's no noise. It is pretty loud when I start it in gear with the clutch engaged, but I just won't do that! Thank you Saddlebum!
  3. Hi guys! Haven't been on here for a while. Been riding the '86 Venture. What an awesome bike! I have a question about the clutch. it works great except that if I start the bike with the clutch engaged in gear I get a weird grinding noise. The PO instrusted me not to do this so I haven't done it ( did once because I forgot). When the bike is hot, sometimes I hear a little wine when I'm decelerating with the clutch engaged at slow speeds. Any thoughts about what this could be? Clutch does not slip.
  4. Next time I’m out your way I’ll let you know Carl!
  5. Thank you Earl. I will keep that offer in mind once I figure out if the anti-dive is working or not. In the meantime I went for a ride last night and rode in to work again today. Didn't bottom out once. So maybe I'm just a little too paranoid. It's a new bike to me and I tend to be hypervigilant with little sounds and stuff. My '84 Goldwing, which I still have by the way if anyone is interested in it, never had an issue with the suspension. This is one area where I'm noticing that the Goldwing might have a bit of an advantage over the Venture. But that's all forgotten the moment I twist the throttle! I love the way the Venture V4 revs so eagerly. The flat 4 doesn't come close to it in terms of pulling power and get up and go!
  6. A Saturday would be better for me. I'm not retired yet
  7. Thanks for the responses guys! @saddlebum that is a good thought. It does feel like the anti-dive is not functioning. I will look into how to get at that. It would be great to meet some of the riders in my area. Might have to take the day off for that! Friday I took a ride out to the Tim's on HWY 2 just outside Brantford. This guy comes up to me and comments on my Venture. Turns our he has an '83 that he's been riding for some time. I told him about this forum. His name is Bill. He gave me his number. Just have to remember to call him sometime.
  8. Anyone have a pair of progressives springs they want to sell? I’m having some bottoming out issues when I’m braking at times. Have maintained maximum air pressure but that doesn’t seem to help.
  9. Today I spent a little time on the Venture tinking with some plastic repair issues. The ride side panel that holds the CB and air controls was a little busted up at the mounting holes. So I tried some simple rubber tapered washers to help hold the panel in place. You can watch the short video here:
  10. Congratulations Steam Rider! I just purchased a 1986 recently! That bike looks very clean! Hopefully it won't take too much to get it on the road! Good luck with it. I took mine in for insepection today and it passed with flying colours. Went to piock it up after work but it was raining so hard I decided to leave it till tomorrow. Will get the licence and registation done tomorrow and be riding it Thursday! Can't wait!
  11. Thank you guys! The bike passed the safety today with no issues! The guy at the bike shop started the conversation with, “Where do you find these things?” My heart sank. Thought he was going to tell me something bad about the bike. Instead he said, “That thing is awesome!” What relief I felt when I realized I wasn’t going to have to tell my wife that it was going to cost hundreds to get it on the road! Thanks to John for keeping this bike in pristine condition so I can enjoy it!!
  12. Today I'm picking up a new to me 86 Venture Royale. I've owned a Suzuki, 2 hondas and now my first Yamaha. I am excited about this purchase, mainly because my previous bikes were all garage finds that took literally hundreds of hours to revive and bring back to life. In this case, the previous owner did all the hard work for me. All I'll need to do is maintain this beautiful well preserved machine. I often ask myself, why do I get so excited about old things that have been restored? What is it in my soul that appreciates taking something that has been disguarded and forgotten and making it new again? To be restored without doing the hard work? That is a different concept for me. In the past I had to buy old bikes because I couldn't afford to buy a new one. That hasn't changed. But to buy one where the work has already been done!? Someone else paid the price of time money and energy and I get to benefit?! That truely is a concept that is near and dear to my heart!
  13. Hi Mike. I’m new here so I probably haven’t earned the right to respond to you yet. But I was really moved by your post. I too have a younger brother. He is 57, I am 61. I worry about him because he is an alcoholic. I’ve often thought what it would be like to lose him. I honestly can’t imagine what that would be like. I just checked out your profile. Maybe you know my brother. He has made a name for himself brewing beer on YouTube. Craigtube.
