Yep, pick up a used 6x12 inclosed trailer with a rear ramp gate.....
Ive got a 6x10 enclosed continental cargo trailer as my garage parked in my 2nd parking spot at the condo. It has lights, storage and it meets my condo development requirements. Also, little fingers (and big) arent playing with the buttons and stuff on the bike.
I checked out building a shed or something like that and it was gonna run me a thousand bucks to get it to code, and I wanted a trailer anyway, so this is a no brainer for me.

Does any one have a suggestion for the best wheel chock for the price that will make it easy for one person to tie a bike down. I think I need something that clamps on to the wheel and installs fairly easily into the trailer, it doesnt matter if it folds down flat ot not, as the trailer is going to be used only for storage and transport of my 1st gen.

I have a speed bleeder that I bought for my clutch but I havnt had a chance to put it in yet. I bought it a while back when I was having clutch trouble cause the issues were caused by a clutch needing bleeding, or the fact the synth oil in my bike was causeing the slipping. I changed the oil and no more slipping, so the speed bleeder hasnt been a priority.

because our prices have been higher here for years, we see a lot more smaller and fuel efficient cars around. The Mercedes Smart car has been here at least 3 years maybe more and theres other like the prius etc. The high gas prices force a rethink of things that we do and how we do them. I think the days of buying and using a big vehicle every day when theres only one person in the thing are long gone.
The govts are encouraging fuel efficient purchases by giving a couple of thousand bucks off the purchase of a car that gets great mileage like a hybrid or a smart car. My ideal car isnt a smart car or a prius but with the rebate and the cost of gas over the lifetime of the vehicle I am definitelty downsizing next time.
The US has been sheilded from high gas prices that most of the rest of the world has had by their policies to support big oil, but now with the economy and the us dollar having issues, the US is going to catch up with most of the rest of the world in time.

u guys got cheap gas, we/ve been 5.28 us gallon for about a month now and all the projections are for more increases. We have a big refiniery and upgrader right here in town, but most of our gas goes to the US,,,,,go figure how that works.
U know gas is too high when your 1st gen hold 20 bucks and your indicator on the dash isnt on yet......

I have the saddlemens seat for my 1st gen its is fairly comfortable, but it does seem to push me forward on to the tank after a while. The fold down backrest is nice and comfortable but to be honest I dont use it too much as us old fat guys have trouble getting that leg over another couple of inches of height, so I only use it on longer trips.

No MC inspections here in SK., except when you go to register and insure a mc over 500 cc. inspectors from our provincial(state)-run insurance company has to check that your engine and frame serial numbers match. But nothing is done to check the bikes condition or safety.
There are inspections done however if you take your riders exam on a mc or if you go thru a roadside inspection

I use the white cutting boards from the kitchen. I buy them cheap at a dollar store, cut them to the size i want and drill a hole to tie a coily string on to attach to bike so I dont forget it. I make sure the pad is cut small enuff to fit in the leather pouch attached to the fairing on my 1st gen.
I find this material works the best as it doesnt soak anything up, it wipes off easily , its fairly light and it takes abuse well.
It also works good if you have to throw it at a cager to get his attention cause its nice and handy and a nice size to throw.

Yeppers .... and it looks like we've got more than one thing in common eh? geeez... you riding all the way from Sask? WOW ... what dates and route are you taking? We're leaving Aug 9th and doing the coast (Oregon & Calif) as much as we can.
I am trailering the bike down as I just cant quite bring myself to ride a 23 year old bike thats is hard to find parts for all the way down to Cali and back. I plan on Riding a lot while there and driving/riding riding up the coast on the way back after the rally. I have relatives in BC and thought about making the loop to the north. (even if it costs me more...). Take pics and make notes on the way down as thats the way I plan to go home.
I am leaving here on the 9th or 10th and head thru Montana leasurely and prolly south thru Salt lake city and across to Cali from there and then do loop back up via the coastal route. (Ive always wanted to run the coastal highway)

Another reason the US might be seeing higher prices is that the American dollar has dropped on world markets in value making buying oil from the producing countries cost more. I know our Canadian dollar is up 20% against the US dollar but just kinda holding its own against a lot of other currencies, so when you buy oil from us its gonna cost you 20 % more.
Actually I was reading somewhere that Canada is now your biggest supplier of oil( probably because of the security of supply), but our oil is mostly in the oil sands and expensive to get, it doesnt make sense to get it until the oil is over 40 bucks a barrell.

The gas prices in my city went to 1.32 a liter a couple of weeks ago, or 5.28 a US gallon. That is part of the reason I am going to the US this year to vacation instead of travelling across Canada.

If youre coming up into Montana anyway, you might as well get into Glacier Park and take the Going to the Sun highway if it is open.
I dont know how the snow pack was last winter and whether their spring was warm enough to melt it all yet, but it is defeinitely worth making a detour to check it out. Its a slow tour at altitiude and views youll love.
Sorry for hijacking your thread, but I dont know about your bike in the rain, but my 85 1st gen is great in rain.,but i usually move the radio/cassette into the trunk and put the filler panel in to be on the safe side with those old electronics.

I read Don's thread @ http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15376&highlight=surging. In that thread he mentions "Surging", what would be the description of that.
I run my mini Shuffle with a cassette adapter and it act like it changes sides when playing. It will always keep playing but there is a pause about every 15 seconds or so. Is this what Don is referring to?
My cassette deck was doing the same thing with my adapter, it just kept changing side every 30 seconds to a minute. I noticed that the adapter would only run one way on the gear from so long before it would imitate a tape and the wheels would stop turning . I took the adapter apart and removed one gear that made the wheels stop and and cause the deck to reverse.
Now my deck never reverses unless I want it too, theres never a gap in the music when listeneing to my mp3's. I just had my deck rebuilt with new belts and all, its kinda handy working next door to the electronics repair dept at work!!

If you would take pics and document what youre doing , it would be appreciated. Mine still has a fill in plastic plug over the top, but I was thinking like you, it was crying out for a switch or a light just to look finished!
