  1. My wife’s car is in the shop so I said honey take my car the weather is going to be great and I can ride my bike to work. I checked the oil and tires and a quick run around the neighborhood since I hadn’t ridden her in a while. After the second day I decided to go round and tighten up bolts and screws and have a look at her. Uh oh I see a missing bolt . This bolt goes through the fork leg to hold the right brake caliper on there are two bolts upper and lower. Next day I’m riding home and my cup holder flys off and lands in my lap. I know it’s not a car but it’s a little scary to know things can vibrate off even when you do a quick inspection. So just a reminder check your bike before every ride cause you never know!
  2. Glad your ok I thought about you and your family. I work for Averitt Express and we have a terminal in Mayfield also in Bowling Green , while I was working Friday night Saturday morning I was wondering about all my friends from my Louisville terminal who had left out and were traveling through Kentucky and Tennessee. I stayed in front of it all night as I traveled to Charleston West Virginia. I hope to find everyone safe when I get back to work Monday night.
  3. Okay I’m updating even though feel like a dummy but I did put a damp rag in the crack and it removed whatever it was in the crack. I really thought it was a hole with foam seeping out but thankfully it was not 😂. Thanks guys !
  4. Hey guys I found a small pinhole in the seam of my seat , what would you recommend to stop it from getting bigger? Thanks
  5. Thanks I’ll take a closer look I had wiped the oil off with a rag and rode it yesterday and didn’t see anything this morning, so wherever it’s coming from isn’t much for right now .
  6. Hey guys I’m being lazy cause I know someone will recognize what this is and how to fix it quicker than I can look it up. Yesterday I was getting ready to ride after bike had sat for a couple of weeks and I noticed a small dribble of oil running down the chrome case cover on left side from above. Here’s a picture of the component that was leaking I think at the bottom is a gasket, so maybe around that. What is this component and have you seen it leak before on your bikes? Thanks!
  7. Yes that pesky shifter. I broke the bolt in the rear that connects it to the engine and is under that rubber cover. Also lost the nuts under the seat. Get some nylon wing nuts cured that problem.
  8. Since I don’t have anything to compare it to I’m not sure what I should be feeling I’m just dealing with it as it comes. I came from the off road world where I raced motocross and some woods riding. That’s why I say I have never had anything this big. Torque wise I’ve had some fast bikes but nothing that drives like a car lol.
  9. Started riding my bike to work which is about 100 miles round trip. This weekend I decided to start checking off a few rides that aren’t too far away from home just to get my feet wet as I have never had a bike this big . Today I rode to Wallace’s cafe and diner on old Frankfort pike . It’s on a scenic route through horse country. There are a few twisties and some elevation changes but nothing too difficult.
  10. Thanks you’ve come through again. Hey if you need any help during the get together next year I’ll lend a hand. Thanks
  11. Hey guys anyone know what size nuts go on the bolts at the front of the seat that attaches it to the frame ? Mine must have vibrated off. And if anyone has a picture to go along with it that would be great too!
  12. You are right , I removed the cover and saw the fluid was a dark brown with some black floating on top . Also noticed some gunky material stuck to the side. I’m gonna give this bike a good going over which I should have done anyway. Thanks to everyone for the comments and help.
  13. So last night I parked it until I got off work. Went over to bike and looked into the oil level glass but to tell ya the truth it’s so discolored I can’t see the level clearly. Next I squeezed the clutch and it felt normal again. So I put it in neautral and started her up. Clutch seemed to fade a bit as I got close to home about a 50 mile trip. So anyway I made it and I’ll be flushing her out this weekend. I hear it’s gonna rain so good indoors project. 😁
  14. Lol thanks guys for the feedback I’m just making sure what’s normal and what isn’t.
  15. Thanks buddy I supposedly had that mechanic check and change all fluids. Is the reservoir on the clutch handlebar side? Should I just top it off to get home or limp it home and bleed it ? Thanks
  16. 2004 midnight venture 1300. Left home tonight to ride bike to work. Everything working as it should. Rode interstate 48 miles and got off my exit but when I downshift It didn’t want to shift: finally came to bottom of ramp and felt bike creeping forward with clutch in. I made it to parking lot at work. What could it be ?
  17. Hey guy’s I was wondering if you have some juggling at the pivot point of the shifter? It seams to be tight but does have a wiggle at the pivot .
  18. Thanks to everyone! Seems like I’m gonna have to wrench on the bike more than I had imagined because of the dealerships and lack of knowledgeable mechanics nearby my area but I have found through the forums that people are willing to help and nothing that goes wrong with my bike hasn’t gone wrong with someone else’s before me. So thanks again!
  19. Update. I ordered the gasket after this mechanic said I needed it and then said I didn’t need a gasket I needed the cover because it was somehow damaged. I decided I wasn’t going to let him work I my bike anymore, so I took the cover off and dang it looked like a silicone bomb had gone off in there. No wonder it was leaking. It looks like when he worked on my shifter he removed the cover and didn’t replace the seal he just silicone around where he had torn it. Anyway I got all the old gasket and the silicone off and applied a gasket sealer called gasgacinch. This stuff had a lot off good reviews so I got some and no more leaks . I missed quite a bit of riding time waiting on a gasket he ordered but never came in . Anyway water under the bridge and I got to ride this weekend !
  20. So I drained the oil while I’m waiting on parts. I’m posting a picture of where I see it leaking. I ordered the whole gasket for the cover but later found out there is a crush ring on the bottom bolt so I ordered that last night. I looked it up on partszilla site they call it a gasket not a washer so hope I got what I need. Hard to see but the oil is on that bottom edge of the middle cover on left side.
  21. Thanks guys I appreciate everyone’s help!
  22. It is the middle case on the left side I was going to drain the oil at some point and take it off and have a look. Is there maybe a cam chain under there? Or what chain is he maybe talking about ? I need to start looking at the service manual.
  23. So my local dealership won’t work on my bike because they say it’s too old 2004. But they referred me to a guy they said did their overflow and had been in business 18 years. Bonus points for being even closer than the dealership. So here’s where everything goes sideways. I wanted a new front tire and all fluids changed. I also had a problem with the shifter where it had a broken bolt. So I drop my bike off and he calls me in about a week and says bike is done 600.00 he tells me he had to remove the exhaust and some other things to get to where the bolt broke off and then drill it out and retap the hole, thus the extra labor. So ok I don’t care I just wanted my bike so I could ride. I rode it home and parked it in garage. That night my wife sends me a picture of the bike with a puddle of new oil underneath. Next day I call the mechanic and he says it needs a gasket that he will order and put it on while I wait no problem. 2 weeks of telling me the gasket hasn’t come in yet. I ordered it myself and be here in 3 to 5 days. Now he tells me I don’t need gasket, he says the case cover was damaged maybe by a thrown chain at some point? And I’m like dude you been telling me for 2 weeks I need a gasket. I say I just want it fixed and now he won’t Respond so WTF I guess I’m gonna have to figure it out. What the hell is wrong with people providing good service these days?
