  8. I bought my 2000 Venture last May.

The trunk had some fairly nice cracks in it

Some caused by the washers around the bolts other looked like to much weight on the rack may have caused that.

First thing I did was to drill a small holes at the ends of every crack to keep them from spreading

Second was to open the cracks and apply epoxy using a tooth pick then closed up the cracks so I can work with it and not make it worse

Third I ran a drill bit along each crack and filled it in with a thin layer of epoxy

For the larger cracks and cracks on a corners I used the metal mesh drywall patches cut into strips and set into the epoxy

On the underside of the trunk I cut a piece of sheet metal and attached it with some silicone caulk and 5 rivets just for some added strength

The epoxy worked for me. 20,000 miles later no new cracks and we use the trunk and rack regularly

I also used some of the plastic weld to fix a few broken pieces on the front of of the bike

That stuff works pretty good I found the epoxy easier to work with when repairing the trunk

You will want to avoid having to much weight on the trunk rack if you have one

Don't let it trunk lid slam down with the added with the added weight that will just lead to damage over time

I may have some pictures on my tablet at home if so I can post them later

  9. This is what they sent me

    They just received it yesterday

I am having them put maps on for 28.00

    Dave,

We have received and completed the evaluation of your Zumo 550, we

installed a new digitizer and this solved the problem with the

touchscreen. I removed several unnecessary files from the unit to

clear up some space, not sure if this will solve the problem with the

waypoints. The total will be $52.90 plus $7 for Priority Mail return

shipping bringing the total to $59.90. Another consideration is to

put the map file on an SD card, we can include a 4GB SD card and the

2015 maps for an additional $28. We found some of your rubber

buttons are starting to tear free, eventually they will fall out, we

highly recommend having our button repair service for an additional

$17.95 - at this time the small cracks are able to allow moisture to come in.

Please let me know if I should proceed with the repair. If paying by

check(preferred method) just let us know when the check has been

mailed and we will send out the unit prior to receiving the payment.

  10. I bought a cargo rack for the back slips into the trailer receiver

    Carbon1 had it for sale

I use the heck outa that

last week camping i loaded it up with fire wood

Holds a couple of chairs when we head out for the day

A small suitcase for the weekend away

Case of beer fits nicely also

My GPS has helped me find plenty of great roads also

  11. My Garmin 550 is shot the touch screen is not working

Finding out I can not do the refurbish with Garmin

After deciding to pony up some money for a new one

I sent a few emails trying to sell off the parts for mounting the old one

We a friend emailed me and said wait don't do anything

    He referred me to PalmDR.com

I called and its looking like a 60.00 repair including return shipping

Maybe i can put off buying a new one for a few more years

    Sending it out today

I will update when I get it back

  12. i just replace the stock seat about 2 months ago

I like it jP cycles has it for 620.000 free shipping

A local shop matched the price so I bought it local

I does sit you forward a bit I knew that from the tour deluxe I have.

It helped greatly with my tailbone pain. After about 2 weeks I settled into the seat

It's nice seat it will also raise the passengers hight a little

That was a good thing Robin seems to have better back support now
