  1. Paul, did you do any wheel bearing maintenance during the 100K?
  2. That is a great modification! Do you know if the fabricators would be interested in doing more overhauls? Cost factors including shipping? Raising the level of the existing rider back rest to be similar to the one that could be purchased? Thank you for any responses.
  3. There has been information on one of these threads where the SMH-10 is working with the freewire. I also have the Mag9 helmet with SMH-10.
  4. This was something I was contemplating and am glad now to see that someone is doing this modification. Looking forward to the finished project and then will be looking where to get mine accomplished.
  5. I am at 21,000+ miles on my Venture, have had the bike since May. Rear MC tires are averaging 10,000 per. Have purchased 2 of the 200/60R16 from Dennis Kirk, $140 ea. Front tire would have gone farther than 20k miles but changed it along with the latest rear. Having run darkside on my 1300, I will be going that route after this rear is worn. Like most, it has been difficult to find an installer. I am not adverse to spending $150 for a tire provided I can get around 20K out of it. One of the things I also look for is tire weight as CT can run from 18lbs to 25 lbs. Trying to stay to the bottom end of the weight scale.
  6. I have now had the same battery in my remote for a couple of months. I have been using the switches on the gas tank to lock and unlock the bike. In fact, the manual states to press the unlock switch on the tank to "wake" the bike up to communicate with the fob. I had went through several batteries before reading this in the manual. No further frustrations with the fob.
  7. The exhaust heat hasn't been a major issue of mine. I do travel the DC Beltway daily and have 10K+ miles on my bike. The exhaust heat in stop and go or slow traffic is significant on the warmer days. I have noticed if I shift to maintain the RPM's in the 1250-1750 RPM area, the heat is reduced enough to become a non-issue.
  8. I see that you have the SMH-10. We have them in the Bell Mag-9 helmets. I had read that the SMH-10 was not compatible with the Freewire. If it is compatible, I will definitely go with the Freewire.
  9. For that money I would buy the Sena blue tooth and not worry about the wires.
  10. Prior to this forum, I have been a member of Delphi 1100 V Star and the 1300 V Star forums since 2004. There is honestly more technical information shared on those forums hands down and less conversational as there is here. Still adjusting to the differences here but I spend more time riding and less time writing. The SVTC has been the most comfortable bike I have been on and the more I ride it the more I enjoy the bike. What I see here is more comparisons to the other Ventures and less about the actual technical aspects of this particular model. Though I prefer more technical discussions of the model I joined this forum for, the banter and discussions are entertaining.
  11. A couple hundred miles after completing my 8,000 mile oil change/maintenance, I started noticing the bike running with a smoother and more quiet sound. For mine at least, and now with close to 9,000 miles it has become pleasant sounding and more like the rest of the Yamaha cruisers I have had over the years. The sewing machine sound of blissful smoothness.
  12. Yes on occasion. Wet asphalt in parking lots at gas stations and on slopes. Just easier to maneuver.
