  1. Here is a good article on RPM. https://www.quora.com/What-allows-formula-one-engines-to-red-line-high-17-000+-rpm-compared-to-that-of-production-street-cars-8-000-rpm The initial Renault F1 V6 of 1984 had an extremely large bore of 86 mm and short stroke of 42.8 mm (S/B ratio of 0,5), and thus its revs were not limited by its MPS and piston acceleration, but by its valvetrain. In 1986, Renault introduced the pneumatic valve return system, replacing the valve springs by nitrogen compressed at 200 bars. From then on, the revs of the F1 engines could climb above 12,000 rpm while their S/B ratio was progressively reduced to 0.41 in 2006 V8s with 98 mm bore and 39.75 mm stroke. These were the engines reaching up to 20,000 rpm at a MPS of 26.5 m/s. Here is Cosworth turning 20,000 RPM on a dyno.
  2. I tried to watch your video but I just had to stop, lets make this short and sweet:
  3. This is what the 2018 Star Venture thread over at the Victory Owners Group turned into as Half_Crazy attacked the Star Venture like he attacks all bikes that have not had aftermarket cams, exhaust, intakes and tuners installed on them. I am a little disappointed that cowpuc has drug that argument over here into this forum. If you want a drag bike then a touring bike is the wrong bike for you period. I would rather have a lot of low end torque in a touring bike like this 2018 Star Venture than a lot of high end horsepower that I have to keep down shifting to keep the RPM's high to find the power band and riding around sounding like a bumble bee all day.
  4. First let me state I have ridden a first gen Venture, a friend of mine owned one that he bought brand new so when I rode it, it was not a many years old worn out bike, it was low mileage almost new. Nothing stood out on that ride regarding that first gen Venture, it was a nice bike but really no better than my 1989 GoldWing GL1500 that I had back then. The Victory Owners Group (VOG), I am a member of that forum still and RedVic is me, I posted up the review because Victory is no more and there are owners over there who will be looking for a new bike soon. I don't have to justify my purchase of this 2018 Yamaha Star Venture to anyone and I sure as hell was not trying to justify my purchase of it on the VOG. The other poster you are calling "Hard Core" is "Half_Crazy", he is well known to go into any thread and start in with his stock bikes don't have any power crap and you can't pass on a stock bike and you have to put in cams an intake an exhaust and a tuner to be happy because you can't be happy with a stock bike. When I traded in my 2013 Victory Cross Country Tour for the 2016 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited Low a couple of members asked me to do a comparison review of the two bikes so I did and Half_Crazy had his normal hissy fit and carried on about stock bikes have no power blah blah blah. I got accused of trying to justify my purchase of the Harley by the same little group over there then as well. Half_Crazy by the way works for a bike shop that installs cams, exhaust, intakes and tuners and dyno's them so he has a vested interest in trying to talk everyone into having that work done, it helps his job security. Anyone who says they are happy with their stock bike gets the full treatment from Half_Crazy about how they don't know what they are talking about and they don't know what they are missing. Been there and done that to many times with Half_Crazy at the VOG. You are upset because Yamaha did not put a V-4 in the new Star Venture and yes it is a Venture. I have seen some of your reviews, like the one where you briefly talk about the "sure Park" with the guy from Yamaha and you praised it and said it was neat then in your own comment section in your youtube video someone comments about not needing a reverse and you state if you can't back up a bike on your own you will quite riding pretty much dissing the sure park system. In this other video you state "She seems pretty sporty man" and now you are passing it off as a top speed test in each gear, come on cowpuc, we get it you don't like the new Star Venture that is why you keep posting that it is not selling, but where I live they are hard to find in a dealer. You keep posting that auction of a Venture and I have posted that auction is a red flag to me as it is not posted under the dealers name but under the name of someone else who sells other things. I also posted a review where that dealer did the old bait and switch on someone who was going to buy a motorcycle from them but the price changed over night from $9,999 to $11,000 dollars. Red Flags all over that dealer. I have no need to justify my purchase of this 2018 Star Venture and as for power this bike is not lacking for power in any way. You can make all the youtube videos you want to about it and try to pass it off as a gutless bike but I do own the bike as do several others and I have yet to hear an actual owner complain about the power. This 2018 Star Venture is the best touring bike on the market right now bar none, it has storage capacity, it has the latest infotainment system, it has power, it has great handling, it has awesome low speed and parking lot speed handling, it has not only reverse but forward as well with its sure park system, the only bike on the market that offers both reverse and forward and this bike is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. Your just stirring the pot cowpuc, Yamaha did not build the bike you wanted i.e. with the liquid cooled V-4, and you and the others who wanted that V-4 have all said pretty much the same thing that you think the Star Venture is over priced and you would not spend that much money for one anyway, so even if Yamaha had put in a liquid cooled V-4 none of you would have stepped up and purchased one anyway by your own statements about the price of the Star Venture. Those of use who have stepped up and purchased this 2018 Star Venture are having the time of our lives and we are tickled pink with this awesome bike. It is easy to see from my past ownership of touring motorcycles I have not been brand loyal, 1989 Honda GoldWing GL1500, 2013 Victory Cross Country Tour, 2016 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited Low and now this 2018 Yamaha Star Venture. One more point about this Half_Crazy guy, I installed a high flow air filter, D&D exhaust, Dobeck AFR+ Gen 4 tuner and the bike put down 92 HP and 107 lbs feet of torque on a dyno, Half_Crazy criticized those number because I did not have cams installed in that bike but a Victory with cams was only putting out 115 lbs feet of torque, only 8 lbs feet of torque more than my combination, so I saved about $2,000 dollars by not installing cams on that Victory and came within 8 lbs feet of torque of the Victory's with cams in them. But according to Half_Crazy my Victory was a dog and had no power. My Victory was far from being a dog. Half_Crazy likes to push HP is the be all end all. But a good combination of torque makes for one hell of a bike as this Star Venture proves. Remember this as Half_Crazy does not think it's true but Enzo Ferrari, Carroll Shelby and even Jay Leno have said on may occasions "Horsepower sells cars, but Torque wins races". I have this new Yamaha Star Venture and it has been on a dyno in magazine tests and has put out from 109 lbs feet of torque to 112 lbs feet of torque if you go by the second number this stock Yamaha Star Venture is within 3 lbs feet of torque of a Victory with cams in it. That is pretty impressive for a stock bike off the showroom floor. As for passenger comfort my wife says this Star Venture is by far the most comfortable bike we have owned yet, the suspension is very well sorted out right from the factory with you only having to set the damping preload for the rear shock. No cowpuc we are not trying to justify our purchase of the 2018 Star Venture, the bike is more than capable of convincing people on its own that it is a worthy product in the touring market. So stir away cowpuc, we 2018 Star Venture owners are happy with our purchase. I really wanted a new GoldWing Tour but after seeing the suspension issues and some other issues with that bike I am glad I went ahead and looked at and bought a Yamaha Star Venture Transcontinental over the GoldWing Tour, I think I got the better bike now that both have been out for a little while.
  5. I am thinking Enzo and Carroll knew a whole lot more then any of us do and even Jay Leno who has the money to have a huge car collection.
  6. Quote from Enzo Ferrari, Carroll Shelby and Jay Leno "Horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races"

  8. This dealer does not advertise the same price at their dealership and they are depending on a bidding war to run up the price in the auction. So far in three auctions they have yet to see a single bidder. It is doubtful that this dealer would give you this price at their dealership. Further how many people have over $20,000 dollars in cash just laying around to even bid on this bike? If you don't you will have to scramble to try and arrange financing and you will only have a certain number of days to get it done or the sale is void and you will lose your deposit that you are required to put down on the bike. Like I said, this deal has to many landmines in it unless you have cash and the dealer will really honor the price. Without cash this auction is a huge risk. I find this offer to be more valid as it is the dealer listed as the seller. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Venture/132643546142?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107095009%26meid%3D5b6d007e954f43a1bd109833772a2dff%26pid%3D100040%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D202325748550%26itm%3D132643546142&_trksid=p2046732.c100040.m2060 In the other auction who the hell is nightwind15A. Plus nightwind15A sure does sell a lot of other stuff not motorcycle related. Sorry, I just don't trust that other auction, if it seems to good to be true is probably is to good to be true. Maybe if they would do the auction under the dealers own name they would have some trust and credibility, but to try and run an auction though the nightwind15A is a huge red flag for me. Looks like this dealer has played the old bait and switch in the past on price: https://www.yelp.com/biz/allsport-powersports-decatur Yelp is not letting the link take you to their review page for this dealer so you will have to do a search and find the yelp review. Here is the bad review copied: Michael H. Vienna, VA 0 friends 3 reviews Share review Embed review Compliment Send message Follow Michael H. 3/31/2012 First to Review Stay away from this dealer. They listed a leftover 2011 Triumph on Cycle Trader for $9,999. I called and was told they had four at that price they were trying to get rid of. After arranging to fly down to pick it up, I called the next morning to give them a deposit. Was then told the price was a "mistake" and they jacked it up overnight to $11,000. They refused to stand by the price they quoted. Classic bait and switch.
  9. I would like to point out one more thing that many don't know: Synthetic oil is not more slippery than conventional oil, it is a misconception that synthetics are more slippery. What allows a synthetic oil to provide better protection is the molecules as I already posted a conventional oils molecules are different sizes and shapes, example: 00ooOO0oOdddDQqq The smaller molecules get used up faster in a conventional oil and when the oil is between metal surfaces (bearing, metal gears) it is the larger molecules doing the work and the smaller molecules are there but don't provide the same support, in the case of gears which our primary/transmissions have the smaller molecules also get used up faster leaving just the larger molecules to carry on the work load. A synthetic oil on the other hand is made in a lab and every molecule is the the same as the next so when synthetic oil is between that bearing surface or gear surface every molecule is providing the same amount of protection. Notice I said protection and not making it more slippery because synthetic is not more slippery than conventional oil. This is an example of synthetic oil molecules: OOOOOOOOOOOOOO Now compare the synthetic molecules to the conventional oil molecules and you decide which oil you would rather have protecting your engine/gearbox. For me it is synthetic oils and in my case I prefer Redline oils for their group V ester based base stocks. That in no way means that a group IV PAO oil is not just as good a choice for protecting your engine/gearbox. Both are excellent oils and will provide the best protection possible. One last point and that is group V esters are positive polarity which means they cling to metal surfaces which aids in cold startups where the majority of an engines wear takes place. That is why many group IV synthetics and even some semi-synthetic oils will contain some group V ester in them.
  10. I have been searching and found this regarding trying to use an SDS sheet to determine what the formula of an oil is. This statement should make it clear that the SDS sheet is not going to determine the formula of any brand of oil including Redline oils. Having said that Philips Petroleum who bought Redline some time back has now come out with a professional grade of Redline oils that is clearly marked and they clearly state that it is made with group III/group IV PAO base stocks and meets manufacture/API guidelines for the latest standards. This all has to do with emissions equipment on vehicles having to be warrantied for so many years. I hope this clears up that you can't use a SDS to determine an oils formula. Here is the statement: The SDS is intended to report hazardous ingredients as well as potential dangers, precautions, and proper handling. Most ester base oils are not considered hazardous and are usually not reported, although a supplier may list non-hazardous ingredients if they wish. PAOs are also non-hazardous, indeed they are food grade, yet it seems every SDS does list them. Might be some rules related to petroleum based hydrocarbons. Here is another statement from the same source who is a consultant in the oil industry. There are three ways to reasonably know the basestock PAO/ester/mineral oil ratios in a motor oil: 1. Ask the manufacturer (good luck) 2. Break into their laboratory and steal their formulations (good luck) 3. Run a gas chromatogram Making estimates from physical properties such as aniline points, densities, and C=O absorbance without knowing which PAOs, which esters, and which additives are used may be a fun exercise, but borders on folly and obsession.
  11. Not me I love the sound of this V-Twin Star Venture. I did the pipes, intake, and tuners on my 2013 Victory Cross Country Tour and 2016 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited Low, changed the seats on them, changed the grips the windshields, on the Harley I swapped out the rear shocks for a set of JRI to get a better quality ride. I find the Yamaha Star Venture Transcontinental to be fine just the way it is, I am just going to enjoy this bike for many miles and several years, this is the bike I have been looking for and Yamaha built it. I think the stock exhaust has the perfect sound and when we are riding we are not listening to a loud exhaust anymore, that was really starting to get tiring on the Harley.
  12. Plus labor of $800 dollars so you are looking at spending $2,600 dollars right out the door to make the suspension work properly and not ride around on the bump stop on the front end all the time.
  13. Counter opinion to cowpuc even though cowpuc said in his own ride video at the 13 to 14 second mark "She feels pretty sporty man" while accelerating up the on ramp when he demoed 2018 Star Venture.
  14. Mine kept popping up "Tropical Storm Warning, what in the hell are doing out riding big dummy!" Then there was the "Flash Flood Warning, You aren't riding in a freaking canoe skippy!"
  15. When you become majority owner of Yamaha or the CEO you can name it whatever you like, I wonder if the owners of the true first generation Venture carried on like you guys are considering the first Venture's had an inline air cooled 4 cylinder engine. You see the V-4 was not the first use of the name Venture for Yamaha. http://www.venturerider.org/history/rsv81/index.php http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_xs_eleven_venturer.htm
  16. Honda only gives you a 3 month subscription on their cars. I have no problem with them not giving a subscription, I refuse to pay for Sirius XM monthly, I had life time subscriptions in the past and they end up more than paying for themselves if you keep the vehicle for a few years. To bad they dropped the lifetime subscriptions because that is the only way they will get me back.
  17. I have an iPhone 8 plus and SMS does not work, however I can play bluetooth music from my phone just fine. Apple does screwy things just because they are Apple. In my wife's 2016 Honda Civic our Android Sony phones had all kinds of issues with the radio system but our iPhone 8 plus phones work without a hitch, go figure.
  18. At some point you guys are just going to have to get over it, Yamaha is the one who did the studies, they are the ones who put up the millions of dollars to design and build the new Star Venture, they are the ones taking all the risk. Clearly the focus groups did not want another V-4 Venture, they clearly said they wanted an air cooled V-Twin, so that is what Yamaha did they built the bike the focus groups said they wanted and so far this new Yamaha Star Venture is the best touring bike out there bar none.
  19. Replaced suspension on 2018 Honda GoldWing.
  20. Scary Honda 2018 GoldWing has lots of problems. Glad the Honda dealers would not work with me and I bought the Yamaha Star Venture Transcontinental instead.
  21. Come Honda you can do far better. Another issue on the 2018 Honda GoldWing.
  22. 2018 Honda GoldWing suspension or should we say lack of suspension.
  23. Issues with 2018 Honda GoldWing tie rods.
  24. One more thing I have to take issue with the mini review of the Venture in that video as he complains about the price of the Venture, what other bike includes Sirius XM? You normally have to pay extra for that option, fog lights I think that is another option you have to pay for on the Honda GoldWing, once you finish paying for all the options on the GoldWing that come standard on the Venture Transcontinental the GoldWing Tour ends up costing more than the Yamaha Star Venture Transcontinental.
